I grew up with the occasional cup of Ovaltine before school as well, and that’s when there was only one Ovaltine, the malt. Over the years they’ve been putting some kind of chocolate in some of their varieties, so I bought this one because I really like carnation malt chocolate flavor in milk, it taste like a chocolate malted but the carnation seems to get very very hard in the container in the humid tropical south where I live. This one I tried today because I wanted to see if it would be a great improvement over the carnation as far as humidity without compromising on taste. Yes, it was fantastic… NICE AND COLD. Later in the evening I made a cup in the microwave by heating the milk first, as I had done with regular “yellow“ Ovaltine my fair share of times in the past, but boy was that terrible!!! It’s almost as if the malt flavor turned into something else, something fake, neither chocolatey nor malty. I put the mug back in the refrigerator and a few hours later it was cold and delicious again. Perhaps when they get the Ovaltine regular (yellow tinged jar) back in the stores again, that one may be more conducive to being heated up, but I don’t have that many cold days a year where I think I can finish that canister, but I sure can during the summertime with the cold one! It’s the perfect breakfast for me, a chocolate malt!

Love this easy to mix/dissolve malt powder. I tried it both hot and cold and love how easily it dissolves without lumps. The ingredients used are good quality with added vitamins. The taste is a milky malty chocolate, slightly bitter and sweet. I mix this in my child’s morning milk as an extra booster

My granddaughters both love chocolate milk. This gives them a healthier option with vitamins and minerals addad and less sugar. They love the taste of this better than regular chocolate milk. This is also a good alternative to purchasing chocolate milk when you have a lactose intolerance.

This is something that's been around forever. It's a classic. My kids and I really like it. It tastes good! Good alternative to "junky" chocolate milk. Can add to any type of milk/milk substitute. It does contain GMOs unfortunately but the cocoa is Rainforest Alliance Certified. It is not gluten free.
was just reading review above. does it really get smaller every year? i haven't drank it steadily, though somewhat so. anyway, ovaltine (choc. malt flavor & the others i'm sure) is flat out DELICIOUS!! only thing out there, to my knowledge, that is like this. malt, yet chocolate too, YET not all grossly sweet & so on. i HATE chocolate syrup & all those fake chocolatey things out there, but ovaltine is NOT like that. not saying it's like begian chocolate, just isn't overly sweet & doesn't have that gross fake chocolate thing. our world is "more more more/!" if something's good, add more! right? that seems to be the consensus. example: say u get a piece of chocolate cake that is divine. JUST RIGHT, right? but no, it's already perfect & delicious, so they then add (cause more of a good thing must be better is the thinking i presume) some horrible sickly sweet frosting which is gross & basically ruins it, but u can not eat the frosting, but then they add chocolate CHIPS to the cake & frosting as well. and then stick a big piece of par level chocolate on the TOP of the cake too. now u have a chocolate nightmare, but people gobble that stuff up. so, my point was that ovaltine is delicious & PERFECT AS IS! :)
I love this stuff. FUN FACT: Ovaltine was originally sponsored on Captain Midnight TV Show in the early 50's. The Commercial was hosted by Captain Midnight himself and you could get a "Decoder Ring" inside bottles of Ovaltine. The show then had "Secret Messages" you could decode, but usually they said "Drink Ovaltine". Go on Youtube and you still can see the show with the commercials.
Horrible. Look at the ingredients. It says magnesium hydroxide. Guess what that is? Milk of magnesia! Google it. Yep this stuff contains a laxative. I drank it and got gurgling stomach cramps and bloat. Magnesium is a mineral. But magnesium hydroxide is a laxative and exactly what milk of magnesia is made of. Why would a laxative be in a vitamin drink without telling anyone? I have ibs. This stuff ruined me. Nestle should be sued for this. Was never in it as a kid. I brought it back for a refund snd showed them the ingredient on the label and then showed the service rep what mag hydroxide is. She couldn't believe it.
Do not buy this stuff!!! This new formula contains a laxative called magnesium hydroxide aka milk of magnesia. Look it up! As a kid this stuff was a vitamin malt powder that tasted so good. They changed the ingredients and I read it was being discontinued. Most likely because they put a laxative in it and people have found out. . Magnesium is a mineral. But magnesium hydroxide, which is in here, is a laxative!!. No wonder why my intestines felt bloated and sick inside after drinking 1 glass. Return this stuff. No reason to add a laxative to a vitamin powder shake!!! Unbelievable. See the pic below of the laxative ingredient in it.
I use Ovaltine Chocolate Malt to make a wonderfully frothy caffe mocha drink.I use Ovaltine Chocolate Malt, Hoosier Hill espresso powder, and Meyenberg goat milk. The Ovaltine and espresso powder blend well.I shake the goat milk carton hard to get it really frothy. Then I pour and stir until mixed. Wow! You have to try it if you love chocolate coffees.
