We have a 9-month old, 43 lb, Border Collie. We ordered the "large" size crate. This crate is awesome for our needs. We had the traditional two-door/swing-door type crates and used those traditional crates for his "bed". One crate was placed one in our living-room. However, the swinging door (even fully open) would get in the way of the walking space or our BC playing with his toys. The door would swing to a certain point, despite being on a level floor, so you would hit it walking past, if you weren't paying attention. You always had to account for the door-space when placing it in a room or against a wall. They are great crates, but this one is better for tight spaces or to reduce the footprint. The crate is a little taller than our traditional "large" crates. ... MoreWe have a 9-month old, 43 lb, Border Collie. The entrance is wider, allowing you, or your dog, easy access to the whole crate and makes placing foam beds and/or blankets a lot easier. This was a great purchase and opens up the crate for our dog and for us.

Gone are the days of having to bend down to unlatch a double-latch door! Same great security, with the improvement of a single-handed door closure. On both the front swing door and side “lift & fold away” wider door, you are able to walk up, grab the top mounted handle and pull up on the door to release the “latch” for easy opening. The provided insertable divider is perfect for crate training as needed. The side “lift & fold” door is a welcomed space saving improvement over the traditional hinged swing door, allowing you & your pet more flexibility whether at home or traveling. Hands down, the best crate I’ve ever purchased. We’re raising our second Standard Poodle puppy. My first fills up the large crate pretty good now that she’s older. It is a considerable larger crate in size, though without going with a “collapsible travel crate, you can’t beat the flexibility. Consistency is ideal with puppies & dogs in general. He has the same “house” no matter where he is.

We have a growing 7 month-old newfypoo so needed to upgrade our crate to a larger size. I chose this crate for 2 specific reasons: #1, the height and #2, the top-folding door on the side of the crate. My newfypoo needed the additional height so he isn't hunched over if he's sitting up. The height on this size has given him an inch or two of extra clearance and should still work when he's done growing. For the 2nd point, I LOVE the top-folding side door. Because of where we keep the crate, we only use the side door and it has been awesome not having to walk around a door that opens to the side and is in the way of the main flow of traffic. Even though the crate is noticeably bigger than our old one, it feels like it takes up the same amount of space because of that ... MoreWe have a growing 7 month-old newfypoo so needed to upgrade our crate to a larger size. There were no problems with shipping and other than needing a little muscle, the crate went together very easily. My newfypoo isn't one that will try to escape from a crate, so I can't speak to that, but I have been very impressed with the quality of this crate and how easy it was to get my big-little puppy used to it. I know this crate will last us for years to come.

I give this crate top marks in all categories. We bought the Large for a Border Collie / Great Dane Mix who, at the time, was thought to be a BC / Lab mix & would not outgrow this......he still fits, barely, but he is only in when we are gone & at night; and he is transitioning out now so no harm no foul. Still a great purchase! The good part; when he's done, I just fold it up & in the garage it goes to wait for a foster to use it. voila! The PROS: "Up & Away door", ease of setup, convenience, safety, Divider included for puppy crate training so you only have to buy 1 crate, value, Ship to store is freeThe "Up & Away door" is super convenient especially considering we had to buy the large crate & it sits in a high traffic area #because that's the only place it ... MoreI give this crate top marks in all categories. Once closed, it does lock securely. The glide rails operate very smoothly for this door & it can lay absolutely flat on top of the crate when open. The end door #of double door version we bought# is a swing out door that you lift then swing to open; this works smoothly & seems secure when closed as well. The crate is as sturdy as any really & cheaper than similar products at other stores; even those made by Midwest - I actually prefer this crate for home use over some of their other double door crates that I use in my rescue work. It comes with a divider that you can install in the crate & size the crate as your puppy grows so that you only have to buy 1 crate ever - Just buy the largest crate your breed needs & use the divider to keep it small for potty training. You have to buy this crate online, but ship to store is free; it took 5 days to get ours. The CON: Only available onlineWell, I guess, if I just HAD to pick something, it would have to be maybe a sheet of paper in the box to explain the "up & away door functions. The doors on this crate do not open like normal crate doors & there wasn't a paper in my box that showed how they were "supposed" to work. Common sense works every time though. ;-)It would be nice if these were available in the store, but with ship to store being free, this isn't much of a CON either.
I had a Kong kennel with the lay-on-top sliding door that I loved, but it was getting to be time to replace it after five years. I can't find many options when it comes to kennels with this style door, and Kong doesn't make it anymore, so seeing the high rating made me feel positive when buying this. Opening up the box I could tell there was a HUGE quality difference between this and my previous one. This is ridiculously flimsy, and just overall horrible, especially for the price. The door slides right off because the latches don't work as stoppers. The tracks leave so much space that one good push from a dog the door pops right off. After using it for five months, the right side of the tracks welding isn't holding. I noticed one part broken and bent it out just to ... MoreI had a Kong kennel with the lay-on-top sliding door that I loved, but it was getting to be time to replace it after five years. The fact that they charge this much for such a low quality kennel is absurd. Save yourself the money and find ANYTHING else.
I love Petco. So sorry I can’t give this kennel a 5 star rating. Love the style. Purchased “large” size for 40 pound female lab/hound mix, 17 months young; fit perfectly (even 75 pound male “cousin” slept curled up a couple of times, for novelty). She’s not perfectly kennel/crate trained. Visiting our daughter & didn’t want dog to run around unsupervised. 1st time used kennel successfully for a few hours. 2nd time unfortunately used a lot longer. She was observed on camera chewing/pulling on rear end and pushing way out of bottom (latched) small front door. She got minor abrasions on cheek and paw; was a TIGHT SQUEEZE out. MOST UNFORTUNATE! Ughhhh; other purchasers had reported wire weaknesses, but I truly wanted to believe that my dog wouldn’t be strong enough. I ... MoreI love Petco. So sorry I can’t give this kennel a 5 star rating. The medium size I got was a lot bigger than I thought which is a wonderful surprise. I’ve split it into 2 and the double doors make it possible. I am currently training my little pup to use the other side as a bathroom as he weathers his first Chicago winter. Love it! And the great thing is the large window on the side is able to be tucked in the top to keep one side always open. The other smaller door doesn’t tuck on the top but that doesn’t bother me because that door is against the wall and not an issue at all.Quality seems great. Have had it for a few weeks and I love it. And so does my lil 10lb pup in his medium crate (but it’s large for him!). He goes in and out a lot more than his old one and I attribute part of it to the double doors!Works like a 2-room ... MoreThe medium size I got was a lot bigger than I thought which is a wonderful surprise. We bought this after buying the XX-Large you and me dog crate which was large enough to fit all our dogs + our husband in. We liked it a lot but it was too big to even fit through a doorway. So we decided to go with a smaller crate that would take up less space and still fit one dog. We bought this item in large and I would say that it seems more like a medium to us. The door opening is barely large enough for our 65lb pitbull to walk through, and there isn't really enough room to turn around comfortably. If she stands all the way up she is hitting the top. She also cant lay down in it without her feet sticking out the front when the door is open. This item works OK for our ~30lb puppy (who we bought it for) but even then it's a little smaller than what I would ... MoreWe bought this after buying the XX-Large you and me dog crate which was large enough to fit all our dogs + our husband in. So as long as you get the right size you will really like this item.
This kennel/crate is awesome! Its by far the best quality i have found and is so sturdy. The doors and latches are easy to use and have safety features that prevent the top close door from falling shut and hurting your pet. It works perfectly for what i need it for. Open on one side without the swing door in the way that others would have. I love this kennel/crate and highly recommend. They didnt put a meatal lable on it, just a sticker so im going to order a metal sticker with my pups name and add it on there, the spot for it is perfect. All of the latches and hinges work perfect and sit well secure. The divider could be a little more sturdy around the lock parts but just need a tool to squeeze it a little tighter. Which i also decided to use with my smaller kennel/crate. A few scratches on the paint but is to be expected because it folds and rubs. Nothing serious... I hope ya'll love this as much as I do because this is by far the best kennel/crate I've purchased. Its for my puppy Dalmatian. But my full size male Dalmatian fits in it perfectly.
Design is great for spaces where the typical swing out door is not convenient or is unsightly. Also appears to be sturdy-- I was surprised at how much heavier it is compared to the other one we have already. Only 4 stars because the garage style door does not slide as seamlessly as I hoped, but it works just fine if you take a few seconds more to ensure it slides down all the way (catch hooks at top of door are flush with crate and not sticking up). My dog is not happy with being crated (door closed), but he does not try to claw his way out either. Not sure how a dog that is more anxious would do with the extra fussing you have to do to ensure the door closes all the way down and the extra noise it makes since it has to glide against the crate vs swinging on hinges ... MoreDesign is great for spaces where the typical swing out door is not convenient or is unsightly. One last thing, the garage style door is only on the long side. The short side is standard swing out style.
