Probably due to the first item and the danger of spraying hot liquid.

I usually rely on a water bottle to take me through the day and into a gym class or two. I don't like Camelbak (it feels like I'm drinking from a baby bottle), and Contigo bottles were generally lost on a contineous basis by my kids (no fault of Contigo). I received the yellow/orange Owala bottle for Christmas, and the first thing I loved was the color. It is so colorful, and I am all about adding/wearing color. My sunglasses are hot pink and neon yellow if that gives you any clue. But this is about more than looks. I really enjoy the multiple ways to drink from it. You can use the straw or pour. It works both ways, and I love it. It also keeps the water really, really, really cold. Oh, and it's machine washable. That's pretty awesome. I throw it into my gym bag and have yet to have any drips. I can't say the same for all of my water bottles - my Contigo tend to leak a bit when on their side. Is it perfect? No. Here are two of the biggest flaws: 1. You can't see how much water you have left. I'm used to Contingo, so I can always monitor when I need to grab more. This is a little harder. 2. It's too big for the cup holder. Obviously this isn't the end of the world, but you if need a water bottle that does fit, you may need to double-check your cup holder size. All in all, I love this Owala bottle and want to get more!

It must be love

What a thoughtfully designed item. Every detail is perfectly executed. This is like a brand-for-life moment for me. We have a cabinet full of water bottles, tumblers, and sippy cups. Most did their jobs, some were decent, and the majority were ok enough, but I could never seem to stop buying them hoping for something more. Seeing the current hype over a competitor brand’s quenchers, I saw the owala bottle mentioned several times. I bought the other brand for myself and two of these for my kids. The quality of these are far superior. I’ll be returning the other and purchasing a larger size owala for myself. I do wish they had a version with a large handle on the body of the bottle, but other than that, this is one of the most perfectly designed items I’ve used.

Love this water bottle - keeps drinks cold!
14 March 2022

I really like this water bottle. The basics - it keeps cold drinks cold for a long time. I've never had my water get warm before I'm finished. It stays securely closed so I'm not worrying about it leaking in bags, packs or my purse. The integrated straw is not what I expected, but it's also MORE than I expected. Yes, there is a straw that you can detach from the inside of the lid. But to use the straw feature, you don't have to rely on some pop-up flexible style. It's actually a secondary part of the opening... see the photo in this review for reference because it's hard to explain. It might look like it would be awkward to use, but it falls somewhere between a pour-style and a straw and is really ergonomically comfortable.Washing - the entire bottle is dishwasher safe. This is unusual in the metal water bottle world and is a very welcome addition to my collection! The push-button combined with the click-in-place handle keeps the lid closed and locked. The only downside is that you have to open the handle if you want to carry it, but in this case I guess you don't need it locked (push-button still closes the lid in this case). The powder coat finish is nice. I have the all white bottle, which I wouldn't necessarily recommend for outdoor use as I already have some marks on it that I can't remove, but it's not a deal breaker at all.The only negative I have is that the bottom isn't quite flush and there's a slight rocking whenever I set it down on a hard surface. It's very subtle, yet I still tend to double-check that I haven't set it on something unstable.

Not what I had hoped for

I thought I was going to just love these bottles, but I was a little disappointed. I use a baby jogger for my exercise so I carry lots of ice water with me during this hot weather. These are the issues I’m having: First, the straw. When I drink all of my water, I like to unscrew the lid to get some ice to help keep me cool. The straw gets in my way every time. Maybe not a big deal to most. Second, the ice floats to the top so when I’m using the straw, the water I’m drinking (which comes from the bottom) isn’t that cold so I have to shake the bottle. Sometimes the straw even pops off so you really have to make sure it’s positioned really tight. If I want to take a big gulp, then that little hole where the straw is seems like it prevents very much water from coming ... MoreI thought I was going to just love these bottles, but I was a little disappointed. If I want to take a big gulp, then that little hole where the straw is seems like it prevents very much water from coming out. Again, I’m sure no big deal for most. It’s difficult to get the lid screwed back on….haven’t figured out why that is, but it’s frustrating. It has a handy button that pops open…sometimes, that’s difficult and when it opens, you’d better look out….it really pops open! The bottle is really heavy when full of ice water, but that may be a good thing but it’s a little too heavy for me to lug around. It does keep your water cold…..well, the top part of the bottle where the ice is. The good these are…..it’s designed where two sides are flat allowing you to get a good grip. And, it’s textured so that helps to keep it from slipping out of your hand. If I had tried these bottles before buying, I wouldn’t have bought them. Just glad I got a good price on them. The 5 star reviews are why I got them. Maybe I’m the oddball when it comes to water bottles. I’d say they’re okay……just not my favorite for what I use them for.

Owala Water Bottle: Pros and Cons

WOW! This is really they best water bottle I have ever used. Let’s talk pros and cons. PROS: 1. AMAZING STRAW AND SPOUT SYSTEM! You can sip from the straw or drink from the spout. 2. HIDDEN SPOUT The cover and locking mechanism make it so that the straw is always sanitary because it it covered. This is a feature that not all water bottles have. 3. The cold water has motivated me to keep drinking!I haven’t experienced any leaks with this water bottle, which is a huge relief. 5. AFFORDABILITY I always thought that I had to buy a hydro flask to have a good water bottle. But I couldn’t come to terms with spending 50 bucks on one water bottle! When you use a water bottle everyday, no matter the brand, it’s gonna get a couple scuffs and dents. Luckily, that hasn’t happened to me with my Owala water bottle, but I’m sure it will eventually due to my clumsy-ness. 6. SLEEK AND COMFORTABLE SIZE I was debating between getting the 24 or the 32oz, but I’m glad I got the 24oz! It is super easy to carry around, and isn’t too heavy. Sure, I have to fill it up more that if I had the 32 oz, but I don’t mind! 7. MANY PARTS=EASY TO CLEAN There are a couple parts to the Owala water bottle that make it easy to clean. You can take out these parts, so it truly feels clean when washed. CONS: 1. CONDENSATION ON THE CAP Now, this is THE ONLY CON to this water bottle. And frankly, I don’t even consider it much or a con. I’ve noticed that the plastic cap on the top sweats a little bit when there is very cold water inside. I’m sure this also happens with other bottles, and it doesn’t bother me much at all. OVERALL: I say, if your not 100 percent sure yet, GET IT. It truly changed my hydration game for the better. DO IT!

The BEST water bottle of them all!
30 June 2023

I'm kind of a sucker for marketing. I get the biggest husband eyeroll every time I bring home a new drinking vessel. Camelbak, Nalgene, Yeti, Hydroflask, Stanley...I've done them all. So when I caught wind of Owala, I tried to resist. I did NOT need another bottle, even if the freesip idea and cute colors were intriguing. The fact that I'm writing a review lets you know how well I resisted :) I LOVE that I don't have to choose between sipping through a straw, or chugging when I'm hot and dying of thirst. when I'm driving, I need a sippy cup, but when I'm out and about I like tipping to drink. This is the perfect "about town" bottle, for cold drinks in the car or on the soccer sidelines! Not too many pieces to take apart and scrub, keeps ice for hours, and cool collectible colors. I have become an Owala evangelist and got one for my sister and my daughter, and they love their bottles as well!

These Combine Pogo & Contigo Features for the Win!
16 November 2021

These 32oz Owala bottles combine the chug lids I love from Pogo with the auto-open feature I love from Contigo and add a lock to boot. They're simply fabulous. I'm dedicated to staying well hydrated and have toted an uninsulated 32oz Pogo chug-lid water bottle around with me for years now, and smaller uninsulated Contigo bottles before that (and still for nighttime because there's no better way to take a still-mostly-asleep sip without spilling all over your sheets than their auto-seal spout). I finally got a bit tired of almost always drinking tepid water, though, so I started shopping for insulated 32oz water bottles with chug lids this spring but had a really hard time finding a well-rated 32oz one. I finally got a bit tired of almost always drinking tepid water, though, so I started shopping for insulated 32oz water bottles with chug lids this spring but had a really hard time finding a well-rated 32oz one. I saw these insulated 32oz Owala bottles in the club and was intrigued because the two blues are two of my favorite colors, but I was unsure about the hybrid straw/chug spout for both cleaning and drinking purposes, so I passed them by and bought a 24oz. insulted Pogo instead. That bottle made me love having ready access to cold water no matter where I was -- even after hours on the beach or in the car -- but it just wasn't big enough. So, I began thinking about these Owala bottles again and, before long, happened to run across someone carrying one who turned out to be a nurse and, when asked how she liked it, was very enthusiastic about its durability and ability to keep drinks cold throughout even 12-hour shifts, as well as the comfort of drinking through the chug lid even though the hybrid straw portion is just below. So, I ordered them that very day and am totally in love with them! The colors are vibrant, they look and feel well-made, they're extremely easy to clean (I hand wash them, but they're also dishwasher safe), they do an excellent job of keeping water cold over time, and -- even though I've never liked water bottles with straws -- the low-profile sip portion of the hybrid chug lid is just as easy, effective, and pleasant to drink from as the chug lid and the hybrid construction isn't awkward at all. In fact, it's downright helpful when you're driving or watching something since you don't have to tilt your head to take a drink. They are just a bit heavier than most uninsulated 32oz water bottles, and perhaps a smidge wider as well, but my small hands still hold them just fine and my uninsulated 32oz water bottle didn't fit in my car cupholders either, so this one finally made me get around to buying a cup hole adapter and now I'm good to go.

Using it daily and got a second one.

After much consideration, I decided on the 24 oz Owala FreeSip Vacuum Bottle because of the unique built-in straw/sipper set-up. I like that the "straw" top is kept clean by the way the lid closes. I prefer to use a straw while driving or riding in the car to avoid spills and not have a bottle blocking my view. The unique set-up also enables one to gulp liquids (such as to take a pill, which I don't like to do with a straw) without having to unscrew the lid or remove a straw. The staff-person who helped me said she considered it the most leak-proof of the bottles I was considering, which so far has proven to be true in spite of being held upside down or on it's side for extended periods. I am only disappointed that it does not keep ice for over 10 or 12 hours as a ... MoreAfter much consideration, I decided on the 24 oz Owala FreeSip Vacuum Bottle because of the unique built-in straw/sipper set-up. The staff-person who helped me said she considered it the most leak-proof of the bottles I was considering, which so far has proven to be true in spite of being held upside down or on it's side for extended periods. I am only disappointed that it does not keep ice for over 10 or 12 hours as a smaller bottle I have does. (Different brand, smaller in height as well as circumference, so I would expect this 24 oz bottle to perform similarly but it does not.) This did not keep me from ordering a second bottle so that one can be reserved for water and one for iced coffee or tea. (It is recommended that the bottle not be used for hot liquids, which I rarely drink anyway.) The bottle barely fits in the cup holders of my Prius, which are not adjustable, but it does work. I have to admit I love the colors and I appreciate that the bottle locks tightly, but the "lock" also doubles as a carry-handle when necessary. It would have 5 stars if it held ice as long as two other bottles I have (over 24 hours), but I love the design, the colors, the unique straw-sip system and how leak-proof it is. I definitely recommend this bottle.
