This is my second 2.0TB Envoy... both purchased separately within the last 12 months....one for office and one for home... both used everyday. Works and performs as advertised - however I notice that the supplied OWC USB-C cable fits snuggly into all the USB-C ports on my MacBook Pro, but the connections on both the Envoy drives are a bit wobbly. It looks like the female connectors on the drives are recessed too deeply. The drives are not moved around during use, so this doesn't seem to be an issue now.

Bought this as the expendable disk as you cannot repair the SSD in a MAC Studio. I use this for swapping large video files and any file that doesn't need to be on the boot disk. When this disk reaches end of life due to number of overwrites it's easy to replace. As for speed, it does everything I expected it to. I've used it for several months and from my experience I would highly recommend.

Purchased the 2TB Envoy Pro FX in January 2022. The drive was subsequently formatted and worked briefly. I could boot from the device, running Catalina. Two months later, the drive failed. No power. Unable to power the device from thunderbolt 3 or USB ports on multiple computers. Drive not detectable/mountable with Disk Utility. Under warranty. OWC offered to replace. Cost to me was return shipping, and loss of data. Oddly, product is listed on website with multiple descriptions: "New Item," "Sold Out" and "This Item Is No Longer For Sale." Will post subsequent review of replacement device.

Convenient, works fine. I had some trouble setting it up but support talked me through simple reformat. I have used the OWC Pro EX Thunderbolt 3 for a few years and have really liked the convenience, compactness and robustness. This new drive has improved over the previous one in that it is more versatile and has a detachable thunderbolt cable, convertible to thunderbolt or USB3
Speeds used with MacBook Pro and Mac Pro are consistent with claimed speeds. The speeds are sustained with large transfers, upwards of 100+ files and 500GB+ each time. If you must, even lots up to 1T+ can be done in under 30 minutes. Totally like the old and discontinued Samsung X5, which was not backward compatible with USB-C only devices, like this Envoy Pro FX.Remember, the slightly faster Envoy Pro EX is not backward compatible.
Connected to my Thunderbolt 3 port on my updated MSI GT76 Titan dt-039 4K Windows 10 Pro notebook with top notch system specs (i9-9900K 3.6GHz desktop processor, 128GB DDR4 2667GHz RAM, Nvidia RTX 2080 Desktop Graphics Card) the slow Write performance was terrible. It must have shipped w/ bad firmware because it only got 982.85 MB/sec sequential Write & even worse 5.45 MB/sec random 4K Write connected to my high performance gaming system's Thunderbolt 3 port. Sequential Write should have been over 2000 MB/sec for this drive connected to my fast notebooks Thunderbolt 3 port. Had to ship drive back for refund at my own expense. Extremely disappointed because I have OWC 128GB DDR4 2666GHz RAM 32GB x4 kit installed in my new iMac 27" 5K Retina that works perfectly, but ... MoreConnected to my Thunderbolt 3 port on my updated MSI GT76 Titan dt-039 4K Windows 10 Pro notebook with top notch system specs (i9-9900K 3.6GHz desktop processor, 128GB DDR4 2667GHz RAM, Nvidia RTX 2080 Desktop Graphics Card) the slow Write performance was terrible. I use this as my external working drive on a 2022 MacBook Pro. The best thing about it is that its basically invisible. I can use it to work video, or any other sort of file. It is small enough to take with me and because its solid state I dont have to worry about it being in a backpack. It sort of looks like something Darth Vader might carry. Great design and versatility. My initial use was to offload video from at 2013 MacBook Pro and that was probably a four out of five experience. using it on anything modern is definitely five out of five.
This unit is well-built and was heavier than I expected. The case is solid aluminum, and tiny rubber feet at the bottom corners keep it slip-free. I bought a 1-foot Thunderbolt-3 cable, and it works perfectly. The included formatting software operated flawlessly. It does get warm when operating but never hot. Overall, I like this drive.
Always wanted a drive that runs at Thunderbolt speeds (almost 2500MB/s) on Thunderbolt ports and USB Gen 2 speeds (almost 1000MB/s) on modern Apple Mac USB-C ports, and switches automatically to operate on either port. Can also run at USB-3 speeds (almost 500MB/s) on USB-A ports with USB-A to USB-C cable. Can move this drive between various Mac's, with or without Thunderbolt, and it works perfectly on all of them. Can take the drive anywhere to backup family Macs without worrying about what ports I'll encounter (but bring all the cables).
small drive. gets promised speed of 3000 MB/sec on a aja speed test, but only 12MB/sec on a time machine backup (on follow-up back-ups, not just the first). asked tech support. they answered they have no benchmarks for time machine backup, and there is no problem with the drive. which struck me as quite a cop-out and very difficult to believe. what do they think mac external hard drives are used for?
