I took a leap of faith and bought the product and I couldn’t be happier that I did! While changes were made, it still functions pretty much the same although the oxygen average is on a 10 minute delay, the heart rate is real time and it immediately lets you know if your baby needs assistance. We received a purple alert not a week ago when our babies heart rate climbed above the acceptable limits and were able to take him to the emergency room for treatment. We never would have known that there was an issue otherwise. RSV followed and we were able to keep a watchful eye, monitor his oxygen levels, and once again, know when we needed to take him for help in the middle of the night. This is worth every penny and more. Don’t hesitate for another minute, it will be the best thing you ever purchased for your child!

This device is literally a life saver. I know we are using it outside of the capacity of what it’s designed for, but my baby was sent home from the hospital with a prescription for an oxygen monitor and the thing they gave us was just horrendous. It was the typical sticker that wraps around the foot with a short cable that connects to a massive screen and device. Our baby would have been tethered to this stupid device that constantly malfunctioned and beeped. It was a nightmare. We ordered the Owlet in a panic and gave it a try and had been by far the best device we could have ever asked for. I would recommend this to any parent of an infant with any breathing issues or if they have any reason to believe their baby needs extra monitoring. This device works seamlessly and is so easy to use. I do wish there was an option to set your own parameters for when it would alert but that requires the prescription model (which we could have pursued but decided the over the counter model really was sufficient). I also wish the app gave you the option to temporarily pause the monitoring- when my baby wakes up and we go for a feed or diaper change the base will alert that it can’t get a good read because he’s kicking around. Not a problem at all except the base is by our bed and my husband is trying to sleep so I wish I had the option to deactivate it from the app instead of only having the option to press the base to temporarily deactivate. But again, 5/5 totally recommend. Also phenomenal customer service- I called multiple times the day we were discharged from the hospital and during set up and was met by a friendly and helpful representative who answered my questions and was great. Superb product and customer service experience.

My paramedic husband personally knows people whose kid’s lives were saved by the Owlet (though the FDA has ruled that Owlet can’t market the device as life-saving, which I do agree with, more on that later). First and foremost, the device setup was time consuming and headache-inducing, two things new parents don’t want to deal with. Finally, just when I had gotten everything to connect and thought I was home free, the app came up with an error message - I needed to set it up through a newer app and completely start over. This app, worryingly, had very negative reviews in the app store. An hour and several Reddit threads later, I figured out how to reset the connection and get everything up and running, only to find that the functionality in this new app was…lacking. As in, almost no options to speak of. No place to change what notifications I get or how loud they are. No way to add in other family members. No way to pause the stupid chimes for an extended period of time as I struggled to get the sock on my wiggly baby. We used the sock for a few nights, then gave up in frustration. Since we had a newborn, that meant getting up several times a night to change and feed him. Each time, we would move him from his bassinet to the nursery to do those tasks. And inevitably half the time the sock would lose connection just going across the hall. Or when he wiggled too much during a diaper change. Or if we held him too close. Remember how the app had no options for customizing these notifications? Each time this happened, both of our phones and the base would go off, loudly, waking anyone (including dogs) who was sleeping. It wasn’t just anyone in the house either. Because there were no separate accounts, if I got a connection alert in the middle of the night during a diaper change, so did my husband working a 24 hour shift. The precious little sleep he could get on the job was being taken away by unnecessary alerts. I became paranoid about alerts going off all the time and began to lose sleep until I told myself it was ridiculous to keep doing so. We stopped using the sock for a while until our baby started getting congested. Out of concern for his well being, we did use it again for 2 weeks to make sure his breathing was still ok. We knew we might get awoken by unnecessary alerts but it was worth it for his safety. And that is the benefit of the Owlet - greater safety. Certainly not “better sleep” as they market (also, where are the in-depth analytics for sleep behavior? If that’s your big draw now, give me some charts or something). But safety DOES NOT mean you can throw the sock on your baby and go on autopilot or do something downright dangerous (like cosleeping) without consequence. It’s just a pulse oximeter. It’s not a baby minder. Your best resource in keeping your baby healthy and safe is YOU. The Owlet is just a tool in this quest for safety. Overall, the Owlet is a fantastic idea and I was so excited to have one. But a truly, truly terrible app and some glaring design flaws with the communication with the base unit have made it unusable except in extreme cases. Please, please fix your app. I’d love to use this sock every night and have a better idea of how my baby is sleeping and actually get some safety benefit from it. But my sleep is precious too.

Bought for the Peace of Mind
27 July 2024

We purchased this the night my baby was born; The Owlet Dream Sock was something we put on our registry early, but battled back and forth on purchasing the whole pregnancy. We saw endless reviews saying that it wasn’t a good product, that the app didn’t work, that it was useless. But the night our baby was born, I was restless when he was crying and I was restless when he was quiet— I couldn’t ease my fears about whether or not he was breathing. I had a long labor and ended up having a c-section. I was unable to walk for half a day because of the swelling in my legs and the pain from getting up from the bed, so once nurses were done performing their many checks, my baby would fall asleep in the bassinet just a few steps away from the hospital bed. I was unable to walk for half a day because of the swelling in my legs and the pain from getting up from the bed, so once nurses were done performing their many checks, my baby would fall asleep in the bassinet just a few steps away from the hospital bed. I worried about taking him home — if I was this worried in the hospital, I’d be even worse when we got home!!Needless to say, I bought it with overnight shipping and didn’t even think twice about the price tag. It was on my doorstep for when I was discharged from the hospital. To be honest, it was horrible that first night. The base played the “Hush little baby, don’t you cry” melody almost every hour, waking the baby up. Once the app connected, it would play on the phone, too. We didn’t know that just hitting the button on the base would only pause it. So it went on all night, hush little baby, just blasting from 2 devices. We laugh about it now, but it was a lot to take in as new parents. Now that we’re better about sock placement, turning on the app right when the sock is on, and removing the sock from the base right before putting it on the baby, we’re having a way better time. I knocked a star off for the app not compiling the data after the current session ends; For example, during the current session, it’ll show you a breakdown of the time spent awake or in light/deep sleep versus the session length. Once your session is done, the history isn’t as detailed, so we’re kinda missing out. Additionally, the app lags sometimes when it’s reporting the readings. It says it’ll take 10 minutes, but sometimes it will take longer (upwards of 30) if you don’t have the app on continuously after it’s on baby. Other than that, great product. Bought it to confirm baby is breathing at night and to alert me if not— and it accomplishes that! Just wished the app was better for such an expensive product ;).

Has Made it Possible to Sleep Again

Our twins were born 3 months premature. A few people mentioned owlet dream socks to us, but cautioned that they could cause more anxiety for us so we didn't get them right away when the girls came home. It wasn't until one of our little girls almost died during nap time that we purchased these. I was using an old school baby monitor when it happened and thankfully was able to perform CPR and first responders were able to revive her. We didn't sleep for weeks in fear that if we fell asleep we might not hear if she needed help again even though she was in her crib right next to me. The dream socks and video monitors allowed us to get some sleep again. The only false alarms we've gotten, which hasn't been many, were while we were holding them. If you're in a situation like ours, bringing home preemies with health challenges, I'd recommend these.I gave it 4 stars for a few reasons. One is because it's a bit challenging to keep them clean. We've followed the instructions on how to clean them and our girls still get some skin irritation. Two, there's not a way to monitor twins side by side in the phone app. That would be so helpful so you don't need to go back and forth. Three, I hope these can be made more affordable one day so that more families who need them can access them financially. We're thankful family stepped up to help us purchase them.

I want to love it...
9 February 2024

To begin, we've never been able to use this product as advertised. The base station (that should be next to me on my nightstand so that I can hear the alerts) has to stay right next to her crib in order for it to read the sensor. When the alarms go off, I can only hear them through the baby monitor that I had to position right next to the base station. It's been frustrating from the beginning, but I at least found a way to make it work. In June, barely 13 months after we purchased our Dream Sock, the sensor quit working. I contacted the Help Center and they suggested I try several things (clean the sensor, reset the sensor, etc.) I had already tried all of these things. I contacted the Help Center and they suggested I try several things (clean the sensor, reset the sensor, etc.) I had already tried all of these things. They said that because my sock was out of warranty there was nothing else that could be done, and that I would need to purchase a new sensor ($129). This didn't sit well with me, considering the sock was almost $300, it was no longer working at no fault of our own, and we were days past the 1 year warranty. After several emails back and forth, they agreed to send me a sensor replacement. Here we are, less than 8 months since they sent the replacement, and it is doing the exact same thing. I reached out to the Help Center again. They told me I would need to purchase a new sensor ($129). I asked if this was a common issue, and was told that because it is the most used part, it can be common. The product is designed to be used every day, so it's baffling to me that for the amount of money you pay, it can be common to need to replace the sensor each year. I went to Amazon to read the reviews, and realized I am not alone in this issue.I want to love the sock, because I love being able to see her oxygen while she sleeps. It often dips dangerously low when she is getting sick, and the Owlet is how we have known to start breathing treatments this winter. I cannot get behind paying $300 for the original product and then an additional $100+ each time the sensor goes out.

I took him straight to a&e and explained what had happened. I don’t think the drs trusted the information of the sock. I told them I did and I knew something else was wrong. It turned out part of my sons lung had collapsed due to infection.I genuinely believe this sock has potentially saved my sons life as I would have otherwise been asleep and unaware his sats were dropping to a life threatening level. Reviews like this are what made me buy the owlet in the first place. I was hoping I’d never experience anything like this but I am so grateful for this product. We have only had 2 false alarms prior to this. If you use the right size sock and place it correctly the benefits outweigh the odd possibly of a false alarm.

Peace of Mind. App Could be Better
26 February 2024

The idea of the sock is great. The app needs work. It’s annoying when I’m getting the baby ready for bed and I take the sock off of the charger and if the sock isn’t on the baby it will start going off a minute later every minute until the sock is on. Which I’m sure you could imagine changing your baby’s diaper and clothes and getting ready for bed and this alarm keeps going off. I wish there was a feature where I could say the sock will be on the baby in 10 minutes or so. The app takes a minute to load when you open. The sock does give me a peace of mind. I’m constantly getting sock placement alerts which is super frustrating and when I check on my sleeping baby the sock from what I could tell is on correctly. The other night it was fine for 2 hours while she while ... MoreThe idea of the sock is great. The app needs work. I’m constantly getting sock placement alerts which is super frustrating and when I check on my sleeping baby the sock from what I could tell is on correctly. The other night it was fine for 2 hours while she while she was sleeping then randomly started going off again and again and eventually after checking the sock 3 times I just unplugged it because it was easier than unswaddling and waking up the baby to take the sock all the way off and try again. My baby I believe is in between sizes right now so that might be the issue. I’ve been using the sock for about 2 months now and just this past week the app will tell me she’s sleeping when she’s in my arms eating which it has to do with her heart rate and movement but it’s happened a few times so now I don’t know if I believe it when it tells me. The pulse is very spot on. My husband is constantly checking her pulse and comparing it to the app and it’s always spot on.

Saved my sanity!
26 March 2024

The Owlet Sock is my holy grail. I was having a hard time sleeping at night before getting it, you know, that night time anxiety with a new baby.. the sun goes down and it gets a little worrisome. I was waking up constantly to check on her, I was scared to leave her in her bassinet, scared to leave anyone else watching her, etc. One morning some congestion hit her and it immediately made me actually afraid for night time, and I was like “okay, I’m buying this TODAY”. We have used it every day since. I sleep peacefully at night knowing I will be alerted.I was cleaning my other childrens play room one day after she fell asleep on her play mat, so I let her snooze there while I went and cleaned. I sleep peacefully at night knowing I will be alerted.I was cleaning my other childrens play room one day after she fell asleep on her play mat, so I let her snooze there while I went and cleaned. I got an alert on my phone after walking back into the playroom from checking on her, that her oxygen was low, and immediately ran to grab her. Without the Owlet, who knows if I would have known in time. I check on her constantly when I’m doing other things, but sometimes 5 minutes or so goes by while you’re busy and 5 minutes can be crucial.I have no cons about this sock and I will forever recommend it to moms. It has saved my sanity and provides me with security for her oxygen and heart rate stats. She hates socks and shoes, but she doesn’t mind wearing the Owlet sock.It is incredibly easy to clean. It’s incredibly easy to switch the sensor to a different sized sock. It is easy to place onto the foot.I love that I can leave the house while she’s being cared for by someone else, and I can see her health readings on my phone while I’m away.I cannot say enough good things about our sock. We love Owlet!!

Worst baby profuct ever
30 September 2024

This is the worst baby product I’ve ever purchased. I panic purchased this when my three week old caught my older kid’s cold and was coughing and gagging on mucus. I was hopeful it’d help me in an emergency situation if we had one. I quickly realized this product would wake us every three seconds for stupid reasons. It incorrectly claims “better sleep for the whole family” but clearly it’s just marketing to tired desperate parents. Apparently the older versions you could turn the not red alert sounds down, but you can no longer adjust the volume. The sock will set off an alarm if your baby is being rocked too long, like ten minutes, so for parents like me who feed then rock their newborn to sleep the base will set off an alarm to tell you to tend to your baby. It’s wildly annoying because I’m literally holding her, trying to get her to sleep, and an alarm will go off and wake her up - and you have to physically stand up and press the base to silence it. If you don’t do it correctly it’ll just snooze the notification and start the alarm again. The base needs to be near the sock, in the same room, and the app tells you not to rely on phone notifications and only rely on the base. Okay, so I’m expected to stay in my bedroom for every nap? Newborns can sleep 22 hours a day….seems ridiculous to have an unreliable phone app for an expensive product in 2024. Additionally, my baby isn’t a big sleep squirmer and the sock kept falling off, which sets off an alarm. It made our sleep routine extremely stressful. If the app was reliable and you could silence the other not red-alert notifications it may be better, but overall this isn’t worth the money or stress. There are other products on the market that are more helpful than this junk.
