We got the owlet sock and camera for peace of mind with our first baby. It honestly really did give us better sleep knowing that our baby's vitals are being monitored and stopped me from getting up and checking up on him constantly. We were transferred and admitted to Children’s hospital and the rest is history… He was diagnosed with SVT (SupraVentricular Tachycardia), received treatment and is now on heart meds with the goal to slowly taper him off of it. SVT occurs on babies but since they can tolerate faster heart rate than adults, they show no symptoms until they are much older. The cardiologists described SVT as if my baby is running a marathon and sooner or later would have shown symptoms. It is treatable though so it is good that it was caught earlier. I am still using the owlet monitor and no episodes since he’s been on meds. He is now 5 months so I do highly recommend this product especially for new moms like me!

I have both the owlet sock and monitor. I decided to warn you about this product so you can make an informed decision and NOT purchase this product. Let’s start with the fact that I’ve been using these product for some time now and I’ve had more issues than peace of mind. These products keep disconnecting from the wifi and don’t work most of the time. I had to contact Verizon and split my network (that’s what I was told to do by owlet) and still happens. The camera is offline most of the time and requires you to troubleshoot and contact owlet customer service at least 4 days a week (very time consuming). The sock keeps giving false errors and alarms throughout the night. Overall NO I DO NOT recommend these products. Owlet has to improve their products and their ... If anyone is purchasing something for almost $400 the expectation is that it works, not just for less than a year, but for a while longer than that. So I am hoping that someone somewhere reads my review and chooses another product instead of Owlet. In this day in age when businesses are constantly competing for loyal consumers I would turn away from Owlet and look elsewhere. Problem #3: Temperature sensor, as the winter months approached, I started to notice that the reported temperature from the Owlet would sometimes be off by up to 12 degrees. To confirm, I placed 3 separate thermometers in the nursery to compare with. A classic mercury thermometer and two tabletop household digital sensors. My 3 comparison sensors all measured within 0.5-1 degree differences while the Owlet remained as an outlier regularly over 12 degrees off. I left my experimental collection of thermometers in the nursery for about a month. Meanwhile, I moved the Owlet wire with the built-in sensor to multiple locations around the room. I tried interior walls, exterior, near the floor, near the ceiling, middle of the room. No success…Again I reached out to Owlet tech support and they happily mailed me a new wire and sensor stating this would fix the issue, it did not. Problem #3 was left unresolved, and I accepted that I would need to check the temperature in my daughters’ room with an alternate sensor. Problem #4: April 27, 2021 Owlet releases a new iOS version of the App requiring iOS 13 or later to run. I have been using an iPad Mini 2 which can only run up to iOS 12.5.1. I am now unable to use Owlet on our iPad which was our primary device for monitoring and a tool that our childcare provider used throughout the day. I contacted Owlet asking if there would/could be plans to release a Legacy App in tandem with the latest version as a goodwill measure that many large organizations follow in the AppStore for extended periods of time. Cisco, AVAYA, Citrix, etc. have followed this approach, it is not uncommon. Owlet tech support explained to me that this was not technically possible. I explained to the agent (as someone who works in software development) that it is possible. We could not come to an agreement. I then suggested that maybe Owlet could consider releasing a web browser version of the platform to help with older device users or those off times that users might want to check in on their child from a desktop computer. I was also told by tech support at Owlet that this was not technically possible. Our conversation ended with the agent telling me I should buy a new iPad. Problem #4 not solved. As stated at the beginning of this review, I tried so hard to like this product and make it work. Unfortunately, the Owlet product is just not reliable on multiple counts, overpriced, and has a short shelf life. My recommendation to those shopping would be to consider other products such as Arlo Baby. While Arlo lacks the smart sock, it checks all the other boxes and is a more stable platform. Additionally, it provides a web browser viewer, App for iOS, Android, and support for smart home technology with Google Home and Alexa.
Purchased this product for my daughter because she wanted to be able to monitor her baby from anywhere. Purchased this in August 2021, from the beginning it was about a 4hr set up multiple calls to customer service. The camera kept shutting off as in offline when really it was online. We rebooted over and over and the same thing kept happening working one day all day to just not working always saying it was offline. Finally she just stop using it and got a cheap camera from amazon and told me to send this camera back. Only good thing about this is that the sock works no matter what. I tried getting help today and this is wnat I was told : recent updates to apple privacy policies have changed some permission settings that have been affecting the cam display, ... The smart sock is able to connect to the base station, but you’re unable to see the actually readings because the app will not load the data. However we still use the sock and watch the colors on the base station. However, the camera is a waste of money. It says it is connected however the camera and the app do not talk to each other making it completely useless. When I called customer service, the only solution they gave me was to force quit the app numerous times until it worked. The employee even stated he’s had to do it for a week straight before it worked. Clearly this is not a reliable product.
