terrible hay quality. i better listen to others not to buy anymore hay from oxbow or this buyer. Who want to buy such hay that is mainly brown, yellow or light green turning to yellow then brown? I even showed the seller the previous hay quality which is better and looking green that I bought from him . anyone can see that the previous hay looks edible compared to the hay I recently received.Who will open the sealed hay package the moment received delivery? as pet owners, we will only open new package when our current hay package is finished. my cavy not eating the dead hay of current order, seller is indifferent. better buy other brand of hay .sure there are different seasons, but pets don't want to eat dead hay or half dead hay . this seller maybe don't appreciate ... This item is very nice and smells fresh. With some other hays I’ve noticed a rather dull smell, but this brand never upsets me. My pigs are very picky about what they like so it’s nice that they get very upset when they run out of hay (one of them chews at the bars of his pen when they’re out haha) I think this is a very nice product, even my cat goes crazy for it lol! But it doesn’t hurt to pull out of the bag and it doesn’t give me blisters or get stuck under my nails like some others kinds of hay do.

It was my first time buying the Oxbow Western Timothy & Orchard Hay Blends (90oz) and it was overall a good experience. As usual (at least in my experience), the hay was very tightly compressed in a plastic resealable bag. I've always had trouble getting Oxbow hay out of the plastic bags due to how much the hay is compressed, so this time was consistent with prior experience. And the Timothy Hay from Oxbow has always been harder (more stalks than leaves) with more yellow strands (but also a lot of flower heads) than some other brands I've tried. I've always assumed Oxbow was more likely to be the first cut hay, which my guinea pigs don't seem to like as much second cut hay. But with the mixing in of the Orchard Hay, I thought it provided a good substitute for the ... I've been buying this brand of hay for my rabbit for the last 3 years. I've always been happy with the freshness of the hay, and it appears my rabbit has too. And it was a good value for the quality. However, at the bottom of our last bag, I found a card from Oxbow, informing customers that they would be reducing package sizing in the future. Same weight and quantity of hay, less packaging. Great, they're taking steps to reduce their footprint, looking out for the environment. Well, I thought it was "great."Then I got my new, smaller bag of hay. Same good quality, fresh hay, smaller package, but, now, they've begun chopping the hay smaller to fit into that smaller package. And now, I find myself using more each day since it's more finely chopped. And the finer ... MoreI've been buying this brand of hay for my rabbit for the last 3 years. And the finer cut also makes a bigger mess than what I had before. I'm still at the very top of the bag and finding lots of fine cut scraps, as if I was near the bottom and at the end of the bag. At first, I though that perhaps this was how the hay had been stored at the warehouse and perhaps the fines had shifted towards the top of the bag. I'm now realizing that this is just how much fine scraps there are in this bag. And I can only imagine how much scrap will be in the bottom once I finish it.Before the package change, the hay was similar to long cut grass, I could fill Lucy's box and she was able to nest in it, hide, play, could snack all day, it didn't tamp down quickly, she was good to go for the better part of the day. Now, with the finer cut, there is no fluff, the short strands land on the bottom of the box, there is no volume. It looks like she's lost interest in it as well. Where it was once an exciting time of the day for her fresh hay, now, she really doesnt pay much attention, as she did before. And the size of the package doesn't really save much space on my end. So, while the company may be able to stock more product on their end, I'm not seeing the value on mine. I'll be looking for another brand, something more like the product that was offered before the packaging change. To be clear, this is not an issue with Chewy. Their service has always been phenomenal. This is an issue with Oxbow.I'm including a couple of pictures, for what it's worth. Unfortunately, I never took a picture of my hay before their packaging change, so no way to show the difference.
This is a hard review. Because mostly this hay is pretty decent. But this bag is atrocious. I don’t know if the photo actually can show this particular clump looked like. But it was just all weedy and bunched up. I ended up spreading the whole bag out on the floor and pulling out big clumps of junky hay.I bought a few bags, so hopefully the other ones are not this bad. But I’m glad I buy multiple bags since this one won’t last me anywhere near as long as I thought it would.
When I rescued My Rosie she came along with her sister and a male , they were living in horrible existence , like live maggots in their urine/feces soaked small cages & kept on a open porch with no heat in 40 degree weather , so I rescued them . And found out they were fed pellets every so often but their main diet was carrots & ice berg lettuce and cat food yes cat food because it was cheap . When I took them in they would not eat the timothy hay I have gotten them , they just burrowed in it . So I tried this since it has timothy & orchard grass , it took about 6 months for them to finally eat this hay , I was working with a guinea pig rescue and they suggested to omit pellets every other day & omit veggies/fruit every other day & just feed this . Between the omitting & treats being rubbed in the hay they finally started eating it . This smells so fresh when first opening & love the resealable bag & the pigs are so healthy now Vet is impressed , from being so skinny to point of almost death to happy healthy pigs .
This product is the perfect blend for our rabbit. We’ve had s’mores 2 years and he sends to love this blend the most. It’s perfect for daily feeding and we also use it in a large rectangular litter pan (yes he is trained). It’s a life savor for bunny poops and we can dump the spoiled product right into the yard because it’s perfect for grass growing. It’s a win for us and the price of the bag is very reasonable!
