We are very disappointed with Oxbow Oat Hay. It is very stalky with few seed clusters. Our bunnies are big fans of Viking Farmer oat hay. Unfortunately it was sold out the last time we ordered. They refuse to eat the Oxbow variety. Picture included (shown mixed with orchard grass hay). We regret ordering three bags.

medium to hard, long straw. while Timothy is preferred for rabbits, i tend to get at least one of these packages as well. My buns have Always loved this texture. sometimes the straw length varies since. the longer ones are best.Only negative is when i ger bags with short pieces, my buns don't seem as interested and it gets very messy

I like the smell of this hay but of course, I'm not the one eating this. I bought a 2 pack with oat and botanical hay and this was not a winner. My foster guinea pig eats around it. I think the hay is just too tough for her, which is a shame because she is not a fan of hay in general and I was hoping to find her something she liked more. Ultimately, I'm glad I tried the 2 pack to figure out what she likes. The oat might need to be donated to the bunnies.

My rabbit has recently become very picky about his hay. He has gone off timothy hay completely. But he loves the oat hay as well as the orchard grass hay. I wish the oat hay came in larger bags! Thanks for all the hay options to keep my bunny happy!
I got this hay to see if my guinea pigs would like it, and when I opened the bag I immediately noticed the muted color. This hay was not very green at all, and the strands are very thick and coarse. When I went to pull a handful out of the bag I had to cut the pieces off with scissors because they were so ridiculously long! I’ve put maybe 2 handfuls in, and they each sat untouched for days before I threw it out, so I guess my girls weren’t all that impressed either. I definitely will not be buying this product again. I’m not sure if this type of hay is supposed to be like this because I love Oxbow and have been impressed with their other products!
I'm fostering a pair of guineas and wanted to give them some variety so we tried this out. Unfortunately, I think it's too course for their liking so they're playing with it more than eating it. They do appear to eat the botanical blend more than the oat. We'll be sticking with our regular stuff for the time being.
My bun went absolutely bonkers for the other hay varieties I purchased as a treat to from the Timothy I normally feed him, but snubbed this. It had absolutely no aroma, and most pieces were very thick and coarse - so undesirable to him that even upon mixing, he would pick it out and throw aside! I have to wonder if it was the few pieces of hay that escaped the seal and meant it wasn't airtight? It definitely does not seem fresh.I absolutely would not recommend this, I'll probably toss it out back to the wild buns along with the Sherwood pellets he rejected (they seem crumbly, moisture issues?), & the absolutely pulverized into a powder dandelion mix that didn't work out. However!! I do recommend the BOTANICAL hay which was tender, fruity scented, and my bun went ... MoreMy bun went absolutely bonkers for the other hay varieties I purchased as a treat to from the Timothy I normally feed him, but snubbed this. This hay is exactly as it should be, packaged perfectly, wonderful aroma. This is the first time I have purchased oat hay for my rabbits and guinea pigs. I like to try different things, but it seems like they are not fond of this type of hay. They will completely eat almost all of the other types I have tried, but they left most of this uneaten. I saw nothing undesirable about this hay, but I must respect the opinion of my hay munching pets and take a pass on this kind next time. Perhaps your pets will have a different opinion.
My piggies like the botanical hay but they won't touch the oat hay. Maybe they are spoiled by orchard grass (their main hay) which is soft and sweet. The oat hay is very tough and thick. If I try to hand feed them oat hay they taste it and spit it out! I use it to stuff their treat tubes and they will pull the oat hay out to get the treats and then leave it on the cage floor. The botanical hay smells wonderful and they get a bit mixed in with their orchard grass as a treat now and then. Next time I'll just get the botanical hay.
I've bought this hay 4 times total. The first 3 bags were great. Bunny ate the seed heads mostly, but some of the stems. No problems with digestion and she had nice large healthy poops signifying she's getting enough fiber. The last bag I bought though, I believe the seed heads were too mature. Both days I gave her this hay she seemed to have gas pain and dark wet poops. Pretty much the same thing that happens when she gets too much banana or actual oat groats. That never happens with sps oat hay. And she eats all the seed heads she wants. I won't be giving her anymore of this bag I just bought. I hate wasting hay.
