Brilliant Mandoline
27 July 2024

Bought this because I quite often want to thinly slice small quantities of things and using the slicer in my food processor creates more washing up and palaver! This mandoline does it for me, no setting up other than choosing the thickness you want (3 settings) and securing the food with the guard. The blade is very sharp so glides through onions, cucumber, radishes extremely quickly. It is dishwasher safe. To store it, set the thickness to the lock setting so the blade is level with the plate and put the guard on. Very please with my purchase.

Feels kinda cheaply built but gets the job done

As with so many small plastic kitchen devices, it feels light and flimsy, as if some component part of it could fail at any moment. So far though it's proved itself a good buy for the price. Apart from choosing one of three size settings (allowing me to choose the thickness of the cucumber slices my family like on their salad sandwiches or the courgettes thickness for their pizzas) there's no set-up required. The mandoline also has a lock setting to protect you from the blade which, word of warning: is sharp. It's light, easy to clean (but keep your fingers away from that blade!), and small enough to tuck away in some quiet corner of your kitchen. As someone who finds a cutting knife difficult to grip, the mandolin is easy to use, and gets the job done quick.

Good safety feature

Mandolines scare me more than any other bit of kitchen equipment. So easy to cut yourself even when just pulling them out of the cupboard! This has a great safety feature in that you can lock the blade away when you store or clean it so there is no danger of accidents. I like that you can rest it on a bowl to catch the sliced food and the ridges stop it from sliding everywhere. The blade is super sharp so you don't have to use a lot of pressure to slice. The different thicknesses are useful. And it's not too big to go in my utensils drawer. I found it very easy to clean and dry (with the safety lock on of course!). A very useful bit of kitchen equipment.

Mandolin

This product is good although not fully functional. I peeled the onion then cut in half. I cut out the root and then attached to the mandolin. I found the outer layer of the onion did not attach and slice through so I put that to the side and then carried on slicing without the attachment rather until I got to a smaller amount then placed the attachment over the onion and pressed down hard just to save my fingers. I had the same issue with the outer layer again on the other half of the onion. I then took both outer layers and sliced them together and they went through and sliced okish. I have since used to slice peppers too.Despite the failure of the attachment actually attaching with both onions and the peppers I shall continue to use this as it speeds up the ... MoreThis product is good although not fully functional. OXO Good Grips Mandoline Slicer

Excellent product. Just what I would have expected from OXO and Lakeland. I've always wanted a mandoline slicer but, taking blood thinners, been rather scared of slicing myself. I decided to try the OXO version as I've always been very satisfied with their products. I'm so glad I did. Whether it's on a medium or thick setting for slicing onions, beetroot or other vegetables or trying the finest setting for vegetable crips, it's absolutely brilliant. An added benefit is that the onions are so quick to slice, they don't make me cry anymore - great win all round. Thank you OXO and Lakeland.

Perfect Slices!
15 August 2023

This handheld mandoline slicer is a great addition to my kitchen. It is quick and easy to use. It fits great on top of some of my bowls so when slicing the food it falls right into the bowl. Other times I just angle it on the counter over a cutting board. It has three sizes for the slices which is great for preparing many types of food. The handle has a nice grip making it easy to hold on to. I usually just hold the food I am slicing but when it is something smaller I will use the holder to hold my food. Cleanup is super simple with this mandoline. I just recently used it to slice up a ton of cucumbers for canning pickles and it saved me so much time!

Seems Silly To Review Such A Simple and Inexpensive Product BUT...
15 January 2022

There's both good and bad here. First the bad. I saw where another review mentioned the clear portion of the body of this came loose often, but figured that was an anomaly since many others didn't mention this. This happened immediately as soon as I used it for the first time, and it is more than just "a bother". Second, the "holder" device only has little molded-in points that are not very effective, and working with a long Idaho potato were almost useless. So I unwisely opted for holding the potato by hand, and when the clear part loosened and came up, the potato went sideways and my finger got one of those cuts you just know without looking was going to be a real bleeder. So I unwisely opted for holding the potato by hand, and when the clear part loosened and came up, the potato went sideways and my finger got one of those cuts you just know without looking was going to be a real bleeder. Both the base and the holder are really poorly designed, and it's hard to believe that any testing at all wouldn't have shown this. The good news: This thing is razor sharp and cutting anything (*including fingers) is all but effortless. It's also compact and easy to clean and store, as well as around half the price of other designs. My finger will be bleeding for another day or so, and people really need to be careful with this mandoline. So careful that half of the "efficiency" of being able to cut so easily is offset by the poor design. Eliminating the clear part of the body and including a better holder, like one with metal points like so many others have, would have made for a MUCH better and safer product. Oxo really dropped the ball here, but the product was delivered quickly and for a good price.

Slices a bit too thin
27 September 2024

I love the concept of this tool! However, I found (as a previous reviewer mentioned) that on the hand-held, three setting slicer, even the widest of the three cutter settings slices too thinly for my purposes. I was hoping to use the mandoline to slice zucchini for grilling. I see that there’s another version of the mandoline with seven settings and I would consider purchasing that one. But I don’t see what those thicknesses are. Can anyone advise me?

Slices way too thin
20 April 2023

I've bought OXO products in the past. I really wanted to love this. The handle is shorter than I would have liked. But my main issue is while it says it's adjustable, the thickest slices were maybe 1/8' thick. I was making sautéed onions, zucchini & canned tomatoes as a side dish. A sort of ratatouille, 70's style. I usually slice the zucchini about 1/4" thick. Because the mandolins sluced so thin I literally had to stand at the stove watching them super carefully to make sure they didn't stick or scorch. I ended up cooking 3 medium zucchini in about 5 batches. It was delicious, but frustrating to make. The next time I'll slice it by hand with a knife. I can't even imagine trying to slice a tomato 1/8" thick. Why have settings that are ridiculously thin? So ... MoreI've bought OXO products in the past. I really wanted to love this.
