I should have read the other reviews, this item is poorly made and broke within the first few uses. Our ice cream was actually very soft because our freezer does not get very cold (wish it would get colder!), so it was not a matter of getting jammed or using it too forcefully. The problem is the trigger mechanism. The second time it was used I noticed it seemed like it got stuck and wouldn't "click" but after a couple gentle tries ended up working. Either the next time or maybe the time after that the whole curved piece from the inside flew out across the room and some little plastic pieces came out and fell between the counter and the stove. Obviously, at that point it had to be thrown away. The way the scoop is shaped doesn't even really allow you to use it ... MoreI should have read the other reviews, this item is poorly made and broke within the first few uses. Better to just use a spoon and call it a day! Will be looking for a different brand as I still want a scoop for presentation when making certain desserts or measuring out exact amounts. Hope this review helps if you are on the fence about buying this product!

I bought this and I really like it. Would not recommend this for really hard ice cream. I usually use this for scooping cookie dough or creamy ice cream. It works perfectly fine with tillamook ice cream but I’ve used it with target’s brand of ice cream and was having trouble.

I bought this ice cream scoop because I trusted the OXO brand for quality and durability. Neither are true for this product.Quality: The handle is comfortable and easy to grip, with a non-slip grip that makes turning the scoop into hard-frozen ice cream pretty easy. However, the thin metal blade that is supposed to slice into the ice cream is flimsy and easily twisted by the same hard-frozen ice cream. The size of the scoop is attractive, but the flimsy blade makes scooping the ice cream impossible.Durability: Every single time I use this scoop to dish out a single serving of ice cream, the blade pops off, taking the metal rod and connecting gear with it (see image). I finally decided to throw it away, but not before leaving this review.Value: How to you give an item that constantly falls apart any value? Personally, I believe there is no value. But if you like having the scoop in several pieces and can make use of the parts - or if you need a puzzle for your children to work on to develop their problem-solving skills, perhaps this is the product for you. My rating of its value is 1.

Don't buy this! It completely fell apart the first time I used it. The ice cream wasn't even hard; it had already softened on the counter for a few minutes. Thankfully I returned it for a full refund. Don't waste your money.
Looks great but functions terribly after just a couple of uses inside scoop lever seem to move outward. Now it doesn’t work as when I first purchased it. Treated item carefully. It’s just not heavy duty and durable. In search of another one that will be better quality even if it’s more money. In turn it will be a better investment in the long run.
I’ve had this scoop for years. I use it primarily for making large cookies or getting muffin and cupcake batter into the tin, and it’s really great for that! I don’t know if I’ve ever tried scooping ice cream with it, but I could see the sweeping mechanism not holding up to that well. Basically, I’d highly recommend this OXO scoop for batters, but get a Zeroll scoop for ice cream!
I have a few oxo good grips product and I can’t rate them highly enough. I bought this item to use mainly on mashed or cream potatoes. It always looks nicer if the potatoes are in nice half ball scoops than just thrown down as a dollop on a plate. Very easy to use and extremely versatile in its uses. Another 5* product from this company.
We have never had a duff OXO product until now, well this scoop has broken within 15 scoops or 4 ice creams. The little swoosh trigger disintegrated into 3 component parts - a black ratchet, the curved metal bit and a rod - and this after 15 scoops - not quite what you want at a dinner party when serving home made ice cream. Our last OXO scoop was past it's best at 12 years and so relieved to see this OXO soft scoop I bought without looking at reviews - stupid mistake. we wondered if it was a copy rather than genuine. please do not buy - you will be disappointed.
I typically buy OXO brand everything because they are usually quality and last a long time. After two or three uses the whole thing was a goner. The arm that unsticks your scoop popped out. I placed it back in assuming user error. However, it continued to happen until more bits also fell off. I see now a picture a previous reviewer left behind. That is exactly what mine looked like before I tossed it in the trash.
Bought because the handle was sturdy and it had the trigger to release the ice cream easily. It broke after the first use, I put it back together and it broke again with the next use. Doesn’t matter of you let the ice cream soften first or not, it just falls apart. The scooping isn’t great either, not smooth, the scoop material is thinner and not angled at all which makes it hard to scoop
