OXO Obsidian Pre-Seasoned Carbon Steel, 12" Frying Pan Skillet With Removable Silicone Handle Holder, Induction, Oven Safe, Black

Came very fast and well packed. I followed the easy directions on how to clean and preseason before using and have seasoned every time after using. I really like this pan! Weight is comfortable and it feels good in my hand. Cooks really well -- heats up fast and evenly, cools quickly, and so far, nothing sticks! And things brown beautifully. Like it so much am going to get the larger size, as well. Very happy.

Do Not Purchase

I have always been very impressed with OXO products, but this fry pan does not live up to their standards. It is definitely not non-stick. I purchased it primarily to cook scrambled eggs, and without significant oil. they stick to the pan and it is very difficult to clean. The instructions tell you not to soak it so it takes a lot of scrubbing. I contacted the company and they gave me instructions on a process to restore the non-stick (which it never had). I followed instructions exactly, but it did not help.

Frustrated with this pan

Not sure if my dish detergent removed the non stick seasoning but things stick especially eggs. It says to come to the website for how to re-season but I can't find it anywhere and the search comes up with nothing. Also, I should have measured my burner and bought a smaller size because my largest electric burner does not heat the outer edges of the pan.

Great non-stick for induction

I bought an induction range and was struggling to find a non-stick which worked well. Fortunately I came across an article which talked about how versatile carbon steel pans are, so I took the leap. I'm really glad I did - this pan is sort of a cross between a cast-iron and a stainless steel pan. You need to season it, which is really not difficult. The beauty of the pan is that I don't have to worry about toxicity of non-stick, but it acts like a non-stick. My first recipe was a fritatta, and the pan performed beautifully. I really enjoy this pan and wish I had bought one years ago. Great service from Bed Bath too.

Great pan, terrible handle

One of the problems I run into with carbon steel pans is that they don't always stay flat when heated. This is important for a flat top electric stove and out of 3 different brands I have ever purchase 12" carbon steel pans from, 2 of those 3 initial purchases gave me pans that would slightly warp once heated. This pan gave me zero trouble! I always heat the pans right after purchase to check for this problem and this pan stayed completely flat. The overall construction of the pan seems very nice and is the kind of quality I expect from OXO.That being said, the handle is TERRIBLE. They clearly cut corners with the handle and shoved the silicone sleeve on to try and make up for it. Perfect out of box carbon steel skillet!

Got this on a deal. Already love other OXO products and decided to give this a try. Awesome nonstick out of box but I decided to give it an extra season layer. Easy no stick eggs, nice weight and size for smaller meals. Like the silicone handle and that the metal underneath it has roughness to it so that it doesn’t slip even with grease on your hands. Well thought out pan!

Very disappointed in this pan

I was looking for a non-stick pan for searing and grilling and thought this was it. The non-stick coating came off after the first couple of uses, as it said it would in the instructions, but so did the non-stick qualities. I cleaned and reseasoned the pan exactly as instructed but was never able to get the pan to be non-stick. It was an expensive experiment. I don’t recommend this pan.

Very nice high heat pan.

I bought this pan as an alternative to cast iron since it has many of the same characteristics but with half the weight. I love being able to go from stovetop to oven, and use it on the grill. Overall very happy with it, but the pre-seasoning is not great. It definitely required a lot more seasoning.

Warps while heating

I don't want this pan anymore. Its impossible to get an even season on it because the darn thing warps so horribly whenever I try to use it. Perhaps if someone has a gas range with a larger than average burner you might be able to keep this thing evenly heated, but for everyone else you probably should look at any other option. Its a shame though, because the actual size and shape were right what I was looking for.

Wonderful fry pan but read the care instructions

This heats up fast and cooks evenly. It's a breeze to clean. But be sure you read and follow the care instructions. Even the slightest bit of acid (lemon juice marinade on swordfish steaks in my case) will eat through the non-stick seasoning. Easy enough to re-season, but better to just avoid anything acidic.
