This lens is outstanding. Manufactured by Panasonic but engineered by Leica it's sharpness is unrivalled. With a 2.8 aperture, you can shoot in limited light conditions which is of course a big asset for a 200mm. With the addition of the tele converter it gives you a lot of versatility.

This is one of the best lenses I have ever used. Stellar in every way. Build quality, glass, weight, focus, clarity. The depth of field from this is incredible. Photo attached is at 2.8. The musicians behind the pianist are out of focus even though they are only a few feet behind. Amazing visual look and one that has set my filming style apart from others.

The Panasonic Leica DG Elmarit 200mm F/2.8 is working just great shipped and received in a very short time. The lens is better then I thought very clear even with the 1.4 X inverter. Got a great picture of a pileated woodpecker far away hard to hold the camera steady but got it anyway. love the lens now ordering the 2.0 X inverter.

Rented this to go with my OM-1 and it was perfect for graduation pics being seated far away. Crystal clear. And as always great packaging and conduit of the equipment from LR.
I assumed, poorly, that this lens work work without issue directly mounted my 4/3rds Panasonic cameras being from the same manufacturer. I have no iris control. My camera firmware is up to date.
Not as good as expected. I expected this to be at least as good with a converter as the Olympus 100-400 zoom. It was no where near as good.
This is a 200 mm lens f/2.8 that is very sharp and fast, even with the 1.4X teleconverter. This would be the equivalent of a 400 mm f/2.8 lens for a full frame camera (or equivalent to a 560 mm f/4 when the teleconverter is used) at a fraction of the cost of the equivalent full frame lens! There is also an optional 2X teleconverter available. Can lens be very easily hand held (providing a good technique) due to the internal stabilization system that can be paired to the Camera stabilization system. This f stop ring can be use to any f stop, overriding the camera (manual) or could be set to "auto" for the camera to take over. With such a low f/stop, this is an excellent telephoto lens to use in low light condition.I would highly recommend this lens to any serious photographer, especially for birds and wildlife photography.
Yes this lens will take a chunk out of your retirement savings. And for good reasons. It focuses really fast and is razor sharp.I still don't like the hoods on pany telephotos (also have the 100-400) but they addressed the annoyance I had with the tripod collar not rotating 360*, because this one rotates all the way around. One minor gripe, which I won't mark it down for, is that the rattle (common with stabilized lenses when the camera power is off) is much louder than usual. Quite possibly because of the size of the elements.Unlike the full frame equivalent this fits into my domke with room to spare. It is so nice having a telephone lens that is compact but not a sacrifice in quality (thinking of the 100-300 lenses on full frames DSLRs).This is my most ... MoreYes this lens will take a chunk out of your retirement savings. The 100-400mm will always have a place with me, but the 200mm is my new wildlife lens of choice.
I am coming from 20years of Nikkor 300 f/2.8 up to their 800mm. No more...This 200mm f/2.8 paired with the G9 is a high performance tool, at a fraction of the cost and weight.Sharpness is stellar, as well as stabilisation, way better than the good old Nikon VR. No tripod with a 400mm equivalent field, that’s a reality. Thanks to Panasonic for re-inventing photography. I’m with you guys.
Pretty expensive lens, however the price drop to $2,500 is welcomed. Outstanding quality, build quality and photo quality are superb. This focal length works incredibly well at the zoo, alongside the included 1.4x teleconverter for the occasional times you need to reach just a bit further. I paired this lens with a GH5. Fast and accurate auto focus. Can't really think of anything bad to say about it, beautiful lens. Attached tiger photo was taken without the teleconverter at f/8.0. Cheetah is with 1.4 teleconverter at f/4.0.
