I have been a photographer for over 45 years, I am qualified as a professional I sell landscapes and am commissioned for portraits.I transitioned from a Nikon full frame to the S5 having experienced Panasonic MFT products and liked them .The S5 is instinctive to use, easy to handle , light yet packs a punch in terms of image quality that is stunning. It gives a film like rendition and reaction to the images that i have show is always in the realm of " what was that shot with ! ."The capacity go high res and produce images of 96 MP is astonishing . But this is also one of the best video cameras that you can buy .The " kit " lens the 20-60 is far sharper than it has the right to be and for a dedicated prime user like me, very surprisingly is a keeper . I've purchased the S5 to produce high quality stock video. It's really very good. Coming from a DJI Osmo Pocket I'm blown away by how dark it can be before the S5 shows any noise. In the past I've used Canon DSLRs for photos and preferred a prime lens but the 20-60 kit lens is great for video. Autofocus is different to previous cameras I've used but is very good, just takes some getting used to.

I bought this at John Lewis Newcastle. Very compact for a full frame camera and that makes it ideal for travelling. It has lots of the features of the more expensive Panasonic cameras but in a smaller body and a much lower price point. The high ISO performance is remarkable and I often use it at night without a tripod, even though the kit lens is rather slow at f3.5-f5.6. Don't be put off by the term 'kit lens' which usually means mediocre performance. This lens is amazing! Some complain about the autofocus performance but let me say that for still photography it's very fast. I have no experience of using it for video. The RAW files show loads of detail and are very flexible in post processing. A great camera, highly recommended.

Awesome price for a camera with so many professional level features. The included 20-60mm lens is excellent value and several steps above the average 'kit' lenses you often get in bundles.Amazing results achieved already in both photography and video work.
We were MFT converts using GH5 and GH5s' ..... But when the S5 arrived we couldn't resist. The 20-60 kit lens is totally usable and the end result is superb... We use these for video so cannot comment for stills but from initial tests it looks strong as a hybrid camera. The only thing that would make us potentially give up the S5 is that Panasonic launch the much anticipated GH6....... One last note.... much has been said about Panasonics auto focus.... In the real world the S5 performs incredibly well in video A/F ... its never let us down
A good product, it's not as user-friendly as my Sony or Nikon though the colours are very natural and the picture and video features are excellent. Phase detection on the newer model is the only thing that is missed though I've not seen any major flaws with this.
Upgraded to the S5 after many happy years using the lumix GX8. I chose this because the body size is not any larger than my MFT system, and fits easily into the same bag. Moving to FF is a step up for me, and the difference is quite noticeable when shooting in high ISO situations. The photographic and video quality is outstanding. Being a Lumix shooter, the menus are familiar to me albeit more extensive than the capable GX8. I appreciate compared to other makes, the AF gets a bit of a hammering from YouTubers. For what I do, I haven't had cause for complaint. Fast bird photographers may feel differently regarding focus and lower burst rate. I haven't tried that yet with this camera, but will update when I do. So, apart from this potential area, I really can't see ... MoreUpgraded to the S5 after many happy years using the lumix GX8. I have moved from Sony A7 range, and i do Landscape photography and its great, glad i made the switch, wex was brilliant when i was there at birmingham branch there was even a panasonic tech guy there to help answer all your questions what was nice personal touch i thought very helpful, wex has been helpful throughout the process even after i brought the camera, cannot fault them one bit thank you. The camera don't expect a light weight camera, but i prefer a decent weight to my cameras but everyone is different, the grip is loads better than sony i find, the AF is brillant, most of all the fancy settings on this camera for me won't get used as i only do photo, but what i can gather this thing is a beast at video and even the BBC started to now use the S line of ... MoreI have moved from Sony A7 range, and i do Landscape photography and its great, glad i made the switch, wex was brilliant when i was there at birmingham branch there was even a panasonic tech guy there to help answer all your questions what was nice personal touch i thought very helpful, wex has been helpful throughout the process even after i brought the camera, cannot fault them one bit thank you. Very pleased with image quality, relatively small size and weight, super intuitive layout and menus, lots of features, good battery life. Used mainly for stills, travel, walk-around and astrophotography, but have enjoyed getting to know the video capabilities and shooting in VLOG. Low light performance is outstanding and the build quality is generally very good, the camera is a joy to handle. Only a couple of compromises to keep weight down that are slight minus points; the viewfinder is not as immersive as on my G9, nevertheless it is still very usable. The flap covering the dual card slots feels a bit flimsy. Overall a superb camera. The 20-60 lens is sharp at all focal lengths, a great wide angle option and pleasingly lightweight. I have extensively used the G9 for all kinds of uses, mainly for travel which it is by far the best system to take with you. I decided to move to Panasonic mainly for their build quality and not having to worry about using in harsh conditions. After purchasing the S1R it convinced me that going to Full Frame offered just that bit of extra resolution. Extensive use of the S1R was a most enjoyable experience, but after long days with this and a 24-105 proved that if there was a smaller version it would be almost the perfect set up.I have been using the S5 with both the 20-60 and 24-105 lenses for a week in the Lake District and they have been great performers. The S5 benefits from a great form factor with superb build quality and handling.I am a genuine convert to the L mount, however, I still maintain other full frame systems but as a travel fan in many different climates, I will not be confident taking anything other than then S5 with it's durability, and for the great results with particularly the lightweight combination of the 20-60.The DFD system has never given me a concerns, once you understand the camera focusing is not a problem with either stills or Video particularly when using the APC mode. Finally, the real test for any system is what you camera you pick up first, and lately it has been a Panasonic L mount. My next purchase will be the forthcoming Panasonic 70-300 which with the 20-60 will be a formidable travel combination.

Panasonic Lumix DC-S5K Kit (12-60mm f/3.5-5.6) at Etoren
The Panasonic Lumix S5 is a hybrid stills/video camera that has a 24MP full-frame sensor. Like the other members of the Lumix S family, it uses the L-mount developed with Sigma and Leica. The S5 has built-in 5-axis image stabilization, which can reduce shake by up to 6.5 stops with compatible lenses. A high-res mode uses the IS system to produce 96MP images with much higher levels of detail. It has a fully articulating LCD with 1.84 million dots and a large EVF with 2.36M dots. On the video side, the S5 can capture 10-bit 4K at up to 60p. V-Log and V-Gamut have a claimed dynamic range of over 14 stops. Panasonic has improved the accuracy of continuous autofocus in video mode and face/eye/body recognition accuracy in all shooting modes. The S5 has mic and headphone sockets, and supports Panasonic's XLR adapter. The compact but well-built body is weather-sealed and has two SD card slots (one of the two supporting UHS-II speeds). It has dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The camera can be powered and charged over its USB-C connector.
