This little camera was a gateway drug for me to get into a micro 4/3 system. This camera shares the same 20MP sensor as M43 cameras, but with a permanently attached f1.7-2.8 compact zoom lens. I have owned a variety of Nikon and Sony and Panasonic compact cameras and this is a big upgrade in most respects. The MFT sensor is twice as large at the ones found on cameras like the Sony RX100 ones and this helps a good deal with image quality, especially in low light.What I like the most is that it has external controls to turn it off and one, to set it for macro shooting, for changing the aperture or the shutter speed or the EV, and so I do not need to go into the menus in most situations (especially with its Auto ISO). The only shortcoming is not having built-in GPS as I have with my Nikon Coolpix AW120 camera.It provides for Shutter Priority and for Raw file output which are two must haves for me for any camera, even a small P&S one.

I wanted something much better than the camera in my phone but I didn't want to enroll myself in a technical school or study textbooks to take good photos. This one is different because it has analog switches and knobs that are easier to use and understand than menu settings. Image quality is good. I have to continue learning the adjustments but it's not as daunting or intimidating as the other camera I have. I would recommend it to beginners and recreational users. It's a bit on the thick side when switched off but fits OK in a little fanny pack or something similar.

But, along came Fuji which drew me away to its (for me) better usability and results. So, what has this got to do with the LX100 M2? Well, it was a model which I felt would be a very nice extra to augment my Fuji XT30 and three prime lens, making it perfect to use on my neighborhood walks and around the house, giving me flexibility in composing a subject. How's it work? Extremely well built and comfortable to hold. It looks smaller than it feels in my hand with wrist strap. Image quality OOC is superb. I live in the NWT and have owned many high end Pentax cameras since 1965. I have loved these cameras but unfortunately they are very heavy and not conducive to travel and wildlife photography for me as I am now 85 years old and have some issues that make it difficult to carry things. So my wife has to carry and transport my cameras for me. So for our 63rd anniversary we sought advice from a professional photographer who recommended this camera and your business. The camera has arrived and although I am still learning how to use it properly I am impressed by how light and small it is but still has all the features of my pentax cameras has a reputation of producing high quality pictures.
I purchased the camera two years ago from BH like all the camera gear i have ever owned. It has everything this old ragefinder lover could offer and more. I was aware of the sensor collecting dust and I limited the usage of the camera in the field (reluctantly) from day 1. Regardless of my diligent care, I now have dust on the sensor in several spots. I had it in its dedicated Lowepro bag on the backseat of the car. I noticed it on the screen imediately before i even took a shot. Guess it was the vibration from the ride and the factory dust must have shook loose. I can use 16:9 ratio if i want to (crop) some of the dust spots. Truely heartbreaking since the camera was expensive plus all the accessories I purchased. The joy of photography with this camera is gone. In macro mode, at that same 24mm and f4.0 setting, focusing is very close and image size and quality are stunning. Auto exposure is quick and accurate but electronic zoom is a bit slow. I appreciate that the lens is threaded for a protective filter that it now wears.Despite its small size, the camera is easy to hold, courtesy of a textured front finger ridge and a rubber thumb rest in the upper rear corner, that also discourages inadvertent setting changes. Multiple buttons are available to customize.There are countless electronic features that Ive only just begun to probe. Color palettes are selectable from standard to vivid to 3 types of monochromes to portrait and others. Recording can be in jegs, raw or both and 4K bursts are possible. Regarding navigating the menu, Ive been spoiled by Fujifilm, but this menu also is logically arranged and intuitive. The touchscreen helps with setting selections as well as establishing focus points and even shutter activation, if so desired. Some may wish for a titing/folding screen, but the flush mount makes for a slimmer profile ... and its more traditional!Im simply amazed that, in this day when other manufacturers of point and shoot cameras seem more concerned with small size and full electronic automation, Panasonic has chosen to cloak modern feature-rich electronics within a perfectly wonderful, compact, traditional camera body that permits, even encourages, its owner to take control of the settings and experience the joy of creative photography.
