Which should be anything these days that supports Bluetooth. FM Radio. USB port for MP3 playback from USB memory sticks up to 32GB. Note, the USB port will support any source with a cable including an iPhone with the thunderbolt to USB cable. The system also includes a very handy CD Player. With some experimentation with room choice, speaker positioning, and built-in audio controls such as EQ and Tone controls you can achieve a solid musical experience. Does it sound good? Yes, but the system is fussy with room location, speaker distance, and built in sound control settings. But don’t worry, it is not that difficult to get the best from this little system.*** How does it sound ***Out of the box, the Panasonic SC-PM700PP-K’s sound signature is small, boxy, constrained. The highs are ok, the midrange feels a bit missing, and the low-end sounds muddy. Male voices on NPR demonstrated the low-end muddiness perfectly for me. Thankfully, Panasonic armed the system with Tone Controls, five EQ presets, D-Base, and Surround Sound. FM radio includes an additional control, Mono Mode, to improve the sound of programming such as talk radio. To get best out of talk radio, settings of Bass -3, Treble +1, and EQ set to Flat dialed the station perfectly. Ironically, this turned out to be perfect for listening to my Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” CD. With every album, I adjusted the system a little bit more until I found a general setup I find enjoyable. And when I don’t, I make additional adjustments. The SC-PM700PP-K also provides three Presets where you can save your adjustments for future recall.I spent a lot of time listening to the Panasonic SC-PM700PP-K. My musical selection included Indego Girls, Boston, Megan Trainer, B-52’s, Loreena McKennitt, classical, movie soundtracks, Bon Jovi, Meatloaf, Michael Jackson, and more. In most cases I was able to adjust either the built in EQ, Tone Controls, or speaker position to improve sound quality. All except Meatloaf’s “Bat out of Hell”. There was literally nothing I could to do make that album sound good on this system.CDs sound best. However, the CD player you will hear the CD Player hum along if you sit too close.*** Speaker Positioning and Impact on Sound Quality ***To get the most out of the system you will need to adjust both the built-in sound quality controls as well as manage speaker positioning. The first place I put the system was on my kitchen’s granite countertop. The speakers were pushed in under my overhanging cabinet. It sounded awful due to the speaker's proximity to the wall, the hard reflective surface of the granite, and the reflections from the overhead cabinets. There was no amount of tone control or EQ that was going to save me here.Next, I moved the system to a multi-purpose space where I placed the system on top of a wooden display cabinet. The Panasonic immediately sounded better. The speakers were still close to the wall, which provided bass enforcement from each speaker’s rear port, as well as less surface area under the speakers for the speakers to interact with. To improve upon this, I moved the speakers until the front speaker feet were aligned with the edge of the cabinet. This all but eliminated reflections from the top of the cabinet which translated into better sound. I also tried different spacing between the speakers. Moving the speakers to the edges of the cabinet, four feet apart total, sounded best. The SC-PM700PP-K is designed for a bookshelf or cabinet. So it makes sense that it sounds the best in this configuration. Finally, because I’m an audiophile junkie, I placed a pair of sand filled speaker stands four feet into my room and six feet apart. I then placed the speakers on the stand. My listening position was five to six feet away, equal distance between the speakers, and ear level with the woofers. Dare I say I was able to create a meaningful phantom center with some audio staging effects? I did. I was honestly shocked this worked with a low cost, high value system. Would I recommend doing this? No. There is not enough value generated by the system to justify the added expense in both stands or room real estate to justify this listening configuration with these speakers. I did, however, include a photo of these speakers on stands. You are welcome.*** Speaker quality ***The Panasonic SC-PM700PP-K speakers are made of 10mm particle board. The speaker is a two-way ported design with a 6cm tweeter, 10cm woofer, and 20mm rear facing port. The speaker cables are 22-guage, copper, with tinned leads on the receiver end. The wires run into the speaker box and, most likely, soldered to the electronics inside. The speaker rings hollow during the knock test. The grills are covered in soft, black cloth and are glued, or nailed, to each the speaker's baffle. Finally, each speaker is covered in what feels like a black wood veneer. The speakers sound pretty good for near field listening, low volume listening. Anything over 20 on the volume dial simply did not sound good. 20 seemed to have the right balance between loudness and sound quality. 20 is also loud enough to fill a room with my favorite tunes and news.*** Final thoughts ***For the money, this is a very handy, versatile system that will fit any dĂ©cor and produce quality sound when setup properly. The SC-PM700PP-K will perform well in a small office, bedrooms, basement, workshops, the lobby of a business, college dorm room, or any place you need an inexpensive, high value system. The inclusion of FM Stereo and a CD player further boost the value proposition beyond a similarly priced portable Bluetooth system. Just be mindful to keep your expectations realistic and in line with the value proposition the SC-PM700PP-K brings to the shelf. Quality sound can be had with proper room positioning and a few setting adjustments.I hope you found this review useful.

The speakers sound good for their size and can be quite punchy with the right music. The radio is straightforward to use, with presets and direct tuning. No AM radio here though, sorry sports fans. Likewise, there is a USB input that supports flash drives up to 32GB, formatted in the FAT format. MP3 is the only supported format, with bitrates up to 320kbps. USB does not function as a lossless way to input phone audio, however.Bluetooth is somewhat limited. While version 4.2 is supported, which can help your phone's' battery life while streaming audio, only basic Bluetooth audio is supported which means audio quality is okay. Audio can be quite delayed, so don't expect videos or games to match perfectly to the audio. The biggest selling point here is CD support. For those of us that have the large collections of CDs purchased over the years, this is a great way to listen to those albums. The CD player itself is one of the better players I've heard over the years, and on top of regular audio CDs, it also supports burned CDs loaded with MP3 files - a handy feature if you have a CD burner and a large MP3 library.Navigating MP3 CDs and flash drives is pretty straightforward but does have a learning curve. compared to other CD players I've used that do MP3 discs, however, this was surprisingly easy to figure out without the manual.Could this stereo be improved? Undoubtedly. Aux inputs, phone over USB support, and additional Bluetooth CODECs would be nice. For a small radio in the office or kid's room though, this is a solid solution.

Simply connect the speakers to the push terminals on the rear panel of the receiver, install the FM antenna wire on the center pin of the antenna coax connector, and plug in the power cord at the rear panel and wall outlet. That's it, press the power button and tune your favorite FM station and you have music. Bluetooth pairing was also a quick and easy process that is well documented in the included manual. In operation, the stereo performs well, and sounds very good, especially at this price point. I placed it in a small bedroom, and it had no issue filling the room with sound. I also found the FM tuner performance excellent, picking up distant stations that my more expensive stereo receiver and AVR struggle to cover. CD playback was as expected with excellent sound quality and easy to use controls on both the front panel of the receiver and the remote. Bluetooth playback from my iPhone also worked as expected with a solid connection and very good sound quality. I connected my headphones to the included 3.5mm headphone jack and also enjoyed great sound quality. Overall, this stereo does everything one would expect from a mini system, and bass response was much better than expected for such tiny speakers. Now for the one glaring omission. There are no 3.5mm or RCA aux input jacks. I found this very interesting. I prefer to use a network streaming device like a WiiM mini so I can start a stream from my phone and then my phone isn't tied up playing music if I want to take a call or do something else with my phone that would interrupt the music. I was able to connect one of my streamers via bluetooth and work around this little issue, but for a device that I would leave connected to the stereo, I prefer the security and lack of hassle of a physical connection, so this omission matters to me, and I think it will for others as well.Overall, this is a great little stereo that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to a friend.

[Rewarded Review] Great sound, compact, easy to set up for bluetooth
5 May 2024

Set up was quick, the receiver box fit really nicely in a small shelf space and the speakers provided good sound. The length of the speaker wire was very good - not too short or too long in my case - and standard quick connections on the back means mobility and customization are there too.Bluetooth connection to my phone was simple and the sound didn't appear to lag too badly in the case where I was watching video so that was a plus. The length of the speaker wire was very good - not too short or too long in my case - and standard quick connections on the back means mobility and customization are there too.Bluetooth connection to my phone was simple and the sound didn't appear to lag too badly in the case where I was watching video so that was a plus. I'd recommend this.

[Rewarded Review] NICE, COMPACT STEREO
20 May 2024

This is a really nice, compact stereo system from Panasonic. Right out of the box, it was super easy to setup and start using. The clarity of sound was quite amazing. FM was crystal clear and easily picked up all of my favorite - and more - classic rock stations. When it "found" a station it was great. No static or going in and out of range.Outstanding clarity and "stereo" sound with my CD! I could turn up the volume quite high and it was terrific.Currently, I'm unable to verify the Bluetooth and USB connections because I don't have any devices for those connection types available. The PANASONIC Stereo System was extremely well-packaged. I was surprised at how much the 2 speakers weighed; they were quite heavy for their size. The main component was very light weight, but worked exceptionally well, and I suspect it will last for many years.I would definitely recommend this PANASONIC Stereo System to anyone looking for a more shelf-stable system for the office, living room or bedroom. I know we'll be placing it in our new bedroom after construction is completed!

[Rewarded Review] Small footprint Big sound

The Panasonic stereo system offers a retro looking system with great sound. The system can play CD/FM/Bluetooth and USB, you even get the hum of the CD being read. When it comes to stereos there are 3 things that matter to me and that is sound, form and function. The sound of the Panasonic is exceptional for its size, the system does a great job with its highs and mids and I was surprised how good the lows were (the ported speakers help with this and the covering around the ports is nice and secure so there shouldn’t be any distortion/vibration with extended use). No matter what music I played on it the vocals were perfect and there wasn’t much need for adjustments/tweaking. No matter what music I played on it the vocals were perfect and there wasn’t much need for adjustments/tweaking. I tried placing the system in a few different positions to see how much of a difference it would make (open space/insides shelf/against wall) and there wasn’t that much of a difference besides the bass response which was better when against a wall or inside a shelf. Being a 2 speaker system this stereo produces room filing sound, being at 40% sound I could hear everything clearly from every corner within a 1500 square foot space. The music from CD’s/MP3’s and Bluetooth sounded great however the FM radio sound was hit and miss. The stereo is well built with no creaks or gives when your handling it, the speakers are also well build and have little plastic tabs at the bottom which prevent sliding around or any damage if you place them on a wood surface. The push buttons on the system have a solid click and the turn knobs for the bass and treble have a slight click to let you know your adjustment has taken place. The speaker wires are 3 and half feet long so you have some options with positioning. The stereo is simple to use and allows you to tune the music to your desired sound preference (treble/bass/surround). Panasonic allows to have a few profile settings so you can have a few different users sound preference saved. There is no app to stream your music from but Bluetooth is still available and you have plenty of options with CD and USB. The stereo offers your general setting adjustment EQ (Heavy/vocal/flat)/Base/Treble and adds an option for surround sound. The surround sound option adds a bit of hallow sound to certain parts of the audio that is playing to give you a 5.1 surround sound, this option works best the wider you have your speakers placed, it does a ok job but is not a replacement for true surround sound. The Panasonic Stereo system is great to have in any room of the house so you can listen to your favorite music. This small 80 watt system produces great room filling sound that is a must for anyone in the market.

[Rewarded Review] Sounds so good I had to break out the '90s CDs
5 May 2024

I have a moving box full of CDs sitting in the basement; sad, lonely, collecting dust. So, picking up the Panasonic 80W Stereo system was a great reason to break them out and introduce my teenagers to all the great, and not so great, bands from the '90s.In the box is the center console, left & right speakers, remote, speaker wire (hard wired into each speaker), antenna wire, and instructions. Setup is plug and play, connect each speaker to the center output, plug in the antenna (only required for FM radio reception), and plug in to power. The build offers a wide variety of setup, there is ~4' of speaker wire per speaker, so you can have up to an 8' spread between speakers or keep them consolidated on either side of the control console. The speakers are 9" tall and ~5.75" wide, plus the center console at 4" x 8", the overall footprint is minimal for the 80W output, but can fill a large area with a rich sound profile. There are four source options: FM radio, Bluetooth, CD, or USB. You will need to connect the antenna for FM radio, however I found that you didn't really need to do much else, such as run the wire in any specific configuration to get good reception. My teenager decided to claim the stereo as his own, and put on top of his dresser. He has it set up such that the FM antenna is plugged in, with the wire bundle laying behind the console, and picks up all the stations available in the area.To control the stereo you can either use the enclosed remote, which allows you to dim the display, control input, volume, play / pause, skip / repeat, and setup, which allows for customized options such as save EQ settings, sleep timer, and auto off. The other option is using the buttons / dials on the console. On the console, there are dials for bass and treble and buttons for play/pause, skip / reverse, source, volume, and cd tray open / close. There is also a headphone jack on the front if needed. The build is nice, the footprint is minimal, with the console feeling solid, and the CD tray having a smooth open / close. All knobs and buttons feel smooth, and give the impression that they will likely outlast your CD collection. The speakers are sleek, particle board backed, with stained black sides, and black mesh fabric covering. The build design is minimalistic and blends in well. The overall output of the stereo is fantastic for an 80W bookcase setup. It easily fills a 14'x14' room with rich audio, regardless of source. Note that prior to the teen claiming it for his own, I had intended this for use in my unfinished basement, where the speakers easily filled up the 2200 sq ft of workspace. After a week of use, I find that I prefer the audio quality from CD or radio over Bluetooth, as the sound needs a bit more volume when using Bluetooth. As I've introduced the teens to all the 90s hits from various genres, the depth and range of this stereo continues to surprise me. If you're space constrained and looking for a standard stereo output, this is absolutely the way to go. The source and sound options offer a wide range of sound profiles as well as ease of use. I recommend for bedroom / apartment sound systems where space is limited, and multi channel is not needed.

[Rewarded Review] Surprising sound with nostalgic look

The Panasonic SC-PM700 really surprised me most with the sound richness and bass, especially when playing higher quality CDs. My primary motivating for getting the SC-PM700 was to play my large collection (200+) of CDs, mostly from the 80s and 90s, which I hadn't listened to in over 8 years when I sold my Saab convertible which had a CD player. I didn't realize how much I missed that and the superior sound quality of CDs compared to streamed music which is my primary means of enjoying recorded music today, but there's a huge difference! The other great thing about the CD player is its ability to play badly scratched CDs that I remember skipping or not playing at all in my car; but play perfectly in this device.A little more about the sound, starting with the ... MoreThe Panasonic SC-PM700 really surprised me most with the sound richness and bass, especially when playing higher quality CDs. I didn't realize how much I missed that and the superior sound quality of CDs compared to streamed music which is my primary means of enjoying recorded music today, but there's a huge difference! The other great thing about the CD player is its ability to play badly scratched CDs that I remember skipping or not playing at all in my car; but play perfectly in this device.A little more about the sound, starting with the speakers. For the small size, I found that the speakers performed well up to about 75% of full volume, depending on the source. After that, it gets distorted, but I can't name a single speaker regardless of price that doesn't degrade as you max out the volume, and at a volume of 37 (out of 50), it's plenty loud to fill the kitchen and great room. Part of what makes the sound carry so well is there is a port in the back of each speaker that really brings out the bass. You can also make micro-adjustments to the bass and treble from either the main unit or from the remote.Besides the CD player, the SC-PM700 also has an FM radio which, with the included antenna, pulls in all of the local stations just fine; allows for Bluetooth connection which works intuitively and flawlessly; and then has a USB input in the back for playing MP3 files, however my USB flash drive with my music wouldn't load due to being too big (256gb), while the device is limited to 32gb. Bummer, but not a show-stopper.The stereo has a clock function which you can use as an alarm or a sleep timer. The curious thing though is that while the remote has a button for "Display", regardless of which input you are using, showing the clock is not one of the options, which seems odd. You have to use the Setup menu if you want to see the time, which isn't intuitive (I had to look that up in the manual, and I am not much for using those). The remote control is minimalist, but in a good way. It fits completely in the palm of your hand and has just 20 buttons laid out for easy use. Back when I had a big stereo system made up of individual components (Receiver, CD Player, DVD Player, Dual Cassette Deck), each of the remotes were huge with dozens of buttons, the majority of which I never used. The only thing odd about the Panasonic remote was that it didn't come with a battery; I can't remember the last device I purchased that had a remote control that didn't have the batteries for it included. It just takes one AA battery, not a "problem", but I will say that when I saw there wasn't a battery included in the bag with the remote, I just assumed it was built in and was momentarily surprised when the stereo didn't come alive when I hit the power button on the remote. There are a couple/few features missing that I feel would have made this a total home run. The stereo really has a nostalgic feel, and made me re-discover my CD collection. If I were on the design team, I would have added a Phono input, especially given the resurgence in popularity of vinyl. I don't know if there are legal issues or not, but allowing the CD player to rip tracks to the USB drive as MP3s would have been an AMAZING addition. Finally, I think it would have been nice to have a microphone with Hey Google or Alexa enabled. My overall impression of the Panasonic SC-PM700 is exceedingly positive. I've been playing CDs every day after I get home from work since I got it, and I'm rediscovering some forgotten bands on 80's compilation CDs. Despite the few shortcomings and wishes I pointed out, I still strongly recommend this system, especially if space is at a premium for you. You're getting big sound in a small package and plenty of sources for playing anything you'd like to hear. Even my cat appreciates the stereo, any time I turn it on she'll jump up on it; I assume for the generated warmth but maybe she loves my music? You decide.

The sound quality is so good that I popped in a cd of “The Who - Greatest Hits” to give it a comparison to the same tracks available via bluetooth and USB (mp3). Clearly the CD wins this round on sonic clarity, but the USB was a close second. I did notice that on Bluetooth, volume had to be raised quite a bit more for the same listening pleasure. The instruction manual actually shows you how to switch the “input level” out of the default volume settings should you need to. The distortion free sound is clear, not too boomy and perfectly balanced. The sound output can be tailored to your liking with the controls up front, or with the remote. I found the default “heavy” sound profile was plenty for my listening needs. Flat is great, but the overall balance of the sound for my ears was best on “heavy” (which puts treble at +4 and bass at +4).I intend to put this system in my den. The system speakers are designed to be kept within 4 feet of the base amplifier and come pre-wired with a 4 foot ‘string’ of an audio cable. The speakers are made of a premium particle board that feels solid and is covered with a pleasing wood grain finish. It compliments the jet black system very well. The front of the speakers are covered with a non-removable cloth cover. It looks great on the shelf and just blends in. The sleek modern design is such a pleasure to view from a distance. If you have been using a compact portable bluetooth speaker for audio, please give this one a whirl. The sound quality will blow you away. I spent hours listening to all the greats, quite forgetting what time it is. The additional availability of using CD’s and USBs filled with MP3s, in addition to bluetooth will provide you with hours of the best that artists have to offer. My ears were pleased like no other. My only wish is that the system had a phono input for turntables but perhaps on the next version.

I went with the manual/automatic presetting for stations to preset number up to 15 FM stations in my area. To select a preset station as in setup through the Play/Menu button by pressing preset and going up and down. There's plenty of options available for personal customization you can do to the Panasonic Stereo System with CD, Bluetooth and Radio to make it your own.
