Pandemic Expansion - in The Lab
Race against time to sequence diseases and test cures in this Pandemic expansion. The Pandemic base game and On the Brink expansion are required to play. New medical technology has been developed that will help treat the infectious diseases spreading across the globe. The In the Lab expansion for Pandemic adds more variety and challenge to your mission of containing deadly disease outbreaks. This time, there’s a whole new way to discover cures and get closer to winning the game. Travel around the board collecting samples of each disease in the field, then use the Lab board to sequence, characterize, and test your cures. Add sample cubes to one of the two lab dishes by taking the Treat Disease action. Once enough samples are collected, seal yourself behind bio-hazard doors and send the samples through the centrifuge and separator to place them on sequence cards in the correct order. If you can get a disease characterized and sequenced, you’re ready to find a cure!

I actually really love this expansion. The new roles really add to the original. I felt that the lab made it easier to cure the diseases but only if you had a lot of people playing. And it really comes down to the sequence card being easy or more advanced. The more different color cubes needed for a sequence card the harder to obtain.

This was a last minute purchase that arrived in time for Christmas. We havent played this game yet as we save any Christmas board games for New Years Eve to play, but everyone is very excited to play. Thank you for a most positive online experience.

I have no idea why I waited so long to buy this expansion. It improves the part of the original game that felt like it was kind of lacking, the collecting cards to cure diseases portion. It adds a ton of amazing strategy to the game by way of forcing you to pull cubes from the board and place them on the lab board, which is essentially the same as the cubes being on the main board the whole time as far as reducing the number of cubes in the supply goes. It adds this neat balance where you are forced to keep cubes out of the supply, risking losing by running out of cubes, and spending lots of actions on curing diseases. One could argue that it does not add many actions per disease cure, as less card swapping occurs, but at the same time, curing just one disease is ... MoreI have no idea why I waited so long to buy this expansion. One could argue that it does not add many actions per disease cure, as less card swapping occurs, but at the same time, curing just one disease is quite taxing, let alone the fact that you can only cure two diseases at a time, forcing you to pick which diseases to ignore temporarily. I personally feel that it changes the game for the better and adds more fun and interesting components to the original game than the second expansion did. The one gripe I have is that they try to force you to buy the second expansion in order to use the third expansion. However, from what I have seen from my playing of the game, this is not necessary. Basically all that they really require from the second expansion are the petri dishes. If you don't really care whether you have these, you can easily play without, or you can buy them separate from many reputable sellers on Ebay. If I were to pick one expansion for Pandemic, this would be the one I would buy.
Love in the In the Lab expansion. My friends have regularly been able to bet regular Pandemic on difficult (6 epidemic cards), and we have played 3 times with In the Lab on easy (4 epidemic cards) and haven't won yet (but have gotten close!). If Pandemic has gotten easy for you, this will keep it interesting for you.
Fantastic game! Definitely improves on an already great game. If you are only buying 1 expansion for pandemic, pick this one!
If you find the standard Pandemic slightly boring, but still like the mechanics, and like the Cthulhu theme.. get this. Can be a very challenging game to not have Cthulhus reign of terror begin at the end.
The In The Lab expansion adds a number of new elements to the pandemic experience. Most notably, of course, is the addition of the laboratory location. The lab adds new methods of curing beyond collecting color cards but requires more actions and can thus be either a blessing or a curse to efforts to cure a disease. It certainly adds to the game's immersion and the feeling of being brave scientists fighting against deadly disease outbreaks. The expansion also adds four new roles in the virologist, pilot, local liason, and field director. None of these fundamentally redefine the game but function more like variants of some original roles in my experience. Still, they can make a key difference at the right moment.A new challenge and some new events round out the ... MoreThe In The Lab expansion adds a number of new elements to the pandemic experience. The new challenge mode is solid and adds a bit of difficulty and variety while the events add some more fun variety if you've gotten the hang of everything. As with most pandemic expansions, the additions are nice and modular so players can pick and choose what they wish to add, although some of the roles and events are pretty strongly tied to the lab. Overall, another fine addition for one of the best co-op games on the market.
Great addition to the base game. A little disappointed with the inconsistencies in the card backs, different purple cubes, and differently shaped pawns. Doesn't take too much away from the game though.
Pandemic: In the Lab is a nice addition to Pandemic. It add several new roles as well as a few new challenges. There is a fifth disease which triggers differently from the main 4. It adds 2 more of the Virulent Strain red infection cards that do everything the green ones do, but each has its own additional affect like those in On the Brink. It also has a team game variant that allows teams to compete for prestige while working toward cures.
