This is a simple thing that could be resolved with an easy hardware switch. Maybe in the future Patagonia?

The not so great: pockets on waist belt are well designed and constructed but only big enough for car keys, a small wallet and a energy bar; forget putting your mobile phone in it unless you use an old flip phone; that said the pockets dont interfere with the waist belt support. Back panel could be a bit more breathable or arched slightly more so that it doesnt press against my back. If Back pocket panel material were stretchy material it would accommodate a helmet and clothing more easily. Interior zip pocket is too small length wise and volume - barely holds a wallet and keys and no room for smart phone. Pack top opening is great; quick and easy to open and close but even when fully open i felt like I wanted it to open just a little more to make it easier to put gear in and get to stuff at the bottom of the pack. Exterior zip pocket lays kind of funny when pack is half full and is kinda tight to get things in and out - could have given it slightly larger volume on top. Key fob length in exterior zip could be longer. Top of interior plastic frame protrudes slightly on left and right sides of pack and angular construction makes it a bit awkward. Its a solid simple and clean design that needs a bit more tweaking to give it 5.

Great bag that could use some tweaking
10 December 2023

Overall I love this bag and the price point. I used it on a camino and found that it fit my needs well. After using daily it for a month I have a short list of some improvements I would make to the bag.-ideally the water bladder would have its own exterior section for easy access-the sternum strap buckle would have a sos whistle-the buckle that connects the brain/lid to the rest of the bag needs some kind of tie down for the excess of the strap. it is long and it blows around in the wind and hits my elbows. Even a mini elastic band under the male buckle would work (like a watch strap).-in an perfect world it would also have load lifter straps but I was also fine without them.

Great day pack!
31 August 2024

I got the 28L to hold the gear I need for basic search and rescue training, and be comfortable going on longer distance hikes. So far it’s perfect! I haven’t had the trouble some have mentioned with bottles falling out of the side pockets. That’s likely because I have the pack full and the side pockets are very snug. Good hydration bladder setup. Just enough outside pockets to be useful. Haven’t needed the rain cover yet, but it seems good. My only negative is that I can’t seem to get the pack to stand upright on its own when I set it down. All things considered, though, I love it!

Great simple, light, and functional pack
27 September 2024

Bought this for an 11-day hike of the Walkers Haute Route in the Alps (staying in hotels and Cabanes, not camping). It worked out great, carried 15-20 comfortably and the size was perfect - not too large but allowed me to take some extra stuff from my wife when we realized her pack was too heavy and was slowing her down. The integrated rain cover was very handy as we had steady rain at least 3-4 days and it kept the contents of the pack dry as well as can be expected. External pockets were very useful and I kept my passport and inreach in the internal zippered pocket for security. Overall a great pack, simple, light, and very functional. I'm 6'1 with a 33" waist and the large fits great. I appreciate that the waist strap is not ridiculously long also.

Lid design flaw
24 October 2023

I’ve been using this pack for the last month for sport climbing. I’m small female and the pack fits comfortably and compactly on my back. It’s large enough to carry what I need for a trip at crag, though rope I carry separately.Pack also is perfect size for plane cabin.Love the zip pockets on waist, handy to stow head light and watch, keys.Side pockets are great for water bottle, and front pocket is great for light jumper or rain shell.Like the packed away rain cover, which is also excellent to stop pick pockets. The fabric is sturdy and I like that there are little in the way of zips. However, the pack has a design flaw. The lid is attached to body of pack, which means when you store your phone and wallet in lid, it becomes bulky and difficult to neatly open pack and access gear, you have to fold over the whole top of lid, to access inside. I find that I instead have to store phone and wallet inside the back sleeve of pack, which becomes inconvenient. However I will say that t you are able to fill the pack quite high because of the lid design. :)I love Patagonia gear and their attention to detail, however on this occasion the design is not quite right.

Much to Like, Could Be Better With Improvements

Recently purchased this pack in a size large (color: noble grey) to use primarily for day hiking, snowshoeing, and for carrying extra gear (layers, food, etc.) on fly fishing trips.Overall, this is a nice looking lightweight 28L pack for daylong adventures where you need or might want to carry extra gear. The quality of the pack is what you'd expect from Patagonia, but the pack design could be substantially improved with a few minimal but important changes to make it much more functional. This pack really seems to shine in terms of function and comfort when keeping the weight low, with around 15lbs or less being the sweet spot for all-day comfort if you're racking up higher miles on the trail. Beyond that, even with efficient organization of gear, the pack becomes noticeably uncomfortable and somewhat fatiguing, putting too much of the weight on the shoulders due to the lack of load adjusters on the shoulder straps.Main pros: Quality, durable materials; slim design that sits well on the hips, back, and shoulders; plenty of storage options and space within the main compartment, the lid, and the elastic stretch pockets along the outside of the pack; includes a rain cover that stores conveniently on the bottom underside of the pack with a velcro closure that's quick to access when needed; the pack is hydration compatible; also, I really like the noble grey color and the overall simplicity of the pack. The cons and what needs to be added/improved: The pack needs load lifter straps to help dial the fit and comfort when carrying heavier or bulky loads. These are featured on the larger 36L version of the pack but why they weren't included on the 28L is a big downside that limits the packs comfort and versatility. It also makes this pack less ideal for hiking or scrabbling across unstable terrain because of how the weight can't be adequately centered on your hips for more stability. Another issue is that the mesh hip belt pockets are too small and constricting making them nearly unusable except for very small items that can flex/bend with your hips (e.g., a Buff or bandana, protein bar). A modern smart phone, GPS unit, folded map, or much else will not fit in the hip belt pockets. The mesh pockets need to be larger and be capable of expanding outward from the hips in order to accommodate larger items that can be easily accessed while hiking on the move.Despite these issues, the pack meets my current need for being a good enough pack for most daylong adventures where carrying a heavy load isn't needed. If the next iteration of the pack improves the weight distribution capabilities and the functionality of the hip belt pockets, the pack would be a much better value in my opinion.

Really disappointed
24 December 2023

This bag had so many good reviews and good features that prompted me to purchase it. I used it exclusively as a day pack while in Spain for 5 weeks. The frame of the bag tore a hole in the bottom of the pack and the metal framing started to poke through from week 3 of use. For a company that is suppose to be an outdoors brand, I am very disappointed in the durability of this product. I have tried multiple times to contact Patagonia to voice my concerns for this product. Please if you are considering buying this bag, please think again. If I had known that such an expensive product would break in a few weeks of use, I wouldn't have purchased it.

Terravia Pack (22L, 28L, 36L)
5 August 2024

The Terraria packs are great packs with one flaw, which is the outside side pockets. If half ratings were possible, I would only take off 1/2 a point and give it a 4.5. The issue with the side pockets is that my water bottle can fall out fairly easily. Not when the pack is on my back and I'm walking/hiking, but when I remove the pack or put it down. The pocket is not tight enough to hold my bottle (which is admittedly a taller, skinnier bottle than some), and there is not a good way to tighten the pocket (such as an adjustable strap). The rest of the pack easily gets 5 stars. It is comfortable, well designed (minus those side pockets), and holds a good amount of gear. I own the 22L, 28L, and 36L packs.
