As a 63 year young woman with arthritic hands these glove/mittens are an absolute blessing. The pull tabs to help get them on are brilliant as well as the bottom to hook the mitten part out of the way when not in use. I’ve worn them out in 20 degree weather and they kept my hands toasty warm. I would highly recommend these to anyone who has hand issues and want the convenience these bring. A game changer. As an aside, I love the brownish color.

Bad design on the fingers cuts off circulation

This is the first Patagonia product I've ever bought that was less than thoughtfully designed. The way the fingers are constructed (folded over and hemmed like a teeny tiny pant leg) constricts the size of the finger opening, and eliminates the elastic properties of the fleece. The next effect is that the blood flow to the tips of your fingers is restricted. You wont notice this in the store, but when your on the water on a fall day, and start to get cold, your body naturally restricts blood flow to the extremities. This design flaw exacerbates this substantially. I don't have huge hands relative to my 6-4 height (ya, ha ha ha) and my fingers are fairly thin. These are the best sweater mitts I've ever had & I've had many. My only complaint is I didn't know they come in blackThey do run small. Usually kids large fits me better than women's small but these fit my tiny hands like they're made for me. For those who complained they're not wind proof, not warm enough etc, they're not Arctic Gloves. They do what they're meant to do & the warmest most functional sweater mitts I've ever had. I've had none of the problems some have complained about. I walk my dog in freezing temps & they're perfect. I absolutely love them. I am buying a black pair to match my wardrobe

Great Gloves with a single (small) flaw
12 December 2023

I am a photographer (iPhone and regular camera). I love these gloves and use them when I'm photographing in cold weather. The gloves are comfortable, keep my hands warm, and allow me access to my finger tips when photographing. The design does not allow access to the thumb tip. This is important when I photograph with an iPhone because I use my thumb when pressing the (virtual) thumb button. I actually have a pair of similar gloves from another manufacturer that does allow for thumb tip access and I find myself using these gloves more than my Patagonia gloves -- even though the fit and finish of the Patagonias are much better.

Great for walking the dog!
19 January 2024

Great sweater gloves! I use them for everything. But I specifically tried them as my dog-walking gloves/mittens. The fit is true to size (I bought M) overall -- a little tight around the fingers just at the edge, but I hope that will loosen up. I can pull them on easily because of the thoughtful, well-designed and constructed pull cord. They are warm and dry. I can pull the mitten part back when I need my fingertips -- fishing a treat out of the pouch for the dog, buckling or unbuckling a collar or leash, pulling out a waste bag, and more. And I can pull the mitten part back over my fingers to keep them warm. The cord to secure the mitten part back down could be a little longer, but maybe that will stretch out, too. And when I pull up purchase history, I would like ... MoreGreat sweater gloves! I use them for everything. But I specifically tried them as my dog-walking gloves/mittens. Great idea on paper, but poor fit and execution
5 November 2023

I really wanted to like these gloves. Pretty much any Patagonia article I've bought before was an instant favorite. But not these gloves. In paper, convertible mittens to fingerless gloves are a good idea. But these gloves are not good in any of these configurations. First, the knit is so that wind can easily go thru. So in mitten mode, these do not keep the chill away at all. Then in fingerless mode, well, you don't have access to your thumb. I see why they designed like this as it would have been difficult to mitten-nize it without an always covered thumb, but because these gloves run very small, the thumb is always constricted. And yes, I did measure my knuckles before ordering, and yes, even after that, I had to exchange Mediums for Larges.I will give these ... MoreI really wanted to like these gloves. Great multipurpose glove/mitten
14 February 2023

These gloves/mittens have become my favorite this season. I love the ability to slip off the mitten and use my fingers. To make them perfect for me, I would put a piece of leather or something like that on the palm just below the fingers to prove a no slip grab. I like to wear them driving because I am in and out of the vehicle hauling stuff around, but they slip on my steering wheel so I have to take them off when I drive as one example. Having the thumb covered takes a little getting used to but doesn't hinder the use. Having my fingers free is sufficient. They are warm, but not too warm and haven't had any issues with my hands sweating.

Incredibly small. XL cuts off circulation
30 December 2023

I love everything bout these gloves, well, everything but wearing them. I'm 6ft 160lbs with pretty normal size hands. After returning a pair of large because I couldn't get my fingers past the cuff I received a pair of XL. Tried them on and am incredibly disappointed. The finger holes are so tight I can feel my pulse, thumb is too small to fit a thumb, and the cuff seam goes across the palm of my hand. I've been wearing the same better sweater for over ten years and love it, these mitts really seemed like a great idea they were not.

Not great sizing!!! Runs VERY small!
27 December 2023

I went by the hand measurements supplied on the web site. The palm fit is slightly tight, but the finger widths and seams are REALLY bulky and very tight! I suffer from Raynaud's and these would really cut off the circulation. Great idea, but somehow the finger parts need to be a thinner material I think. I bought my husband the XL and they did not fit him, but do fit me! Im going to try them. I would suggest adding a layer in the flip over mitten part that would either be in the whole flip over part, or at least over the front of the hand or line up with where the fingers extra layer stops, up over the top.

Soft, but maybe could be a little more softer like the Synchilla
9 September 2023

I like these gloves. I now have 3 pairs in different sizes because I couldn’t seem to get my correct size. Although the Medium fitted, I felt I’d like more room to put a liner in so purchased a size Large. Very warm and comfortable. Of course they are not waterproof but they are for just to put on for cold mornings. I find the Synchilla softer, however these Better Sweater are fine. Highly recommend them.
