The bright color gives it just enough pop to stand out if you're checking it and the two colors contrast each other nicely. The grey will also hide any dirt or scuffs.Size: Perfect for a carry-on. I initially wanted to purchase the 55 L but now that I have used it, I know the 55L would have been too big to meet the airline requirements based on the dimensions. I think you could likely get away with the 55L as a carryon with certain airlines that are less strict but not on others that have strict weight/measurement rules. I used the 40L with 4 airline carriers (United, Air New Zealand, Singapore, Virgin Australia) and without issue it fit perfectly in all overhead bins, but was too big to stow under the seat in front of me.Features:- I absolutely love the removable shoulder straps that turn it into a backpack. They are easily attachable, sturdy, and adjustable making it an easy fit a variety of body types.- I like the end or side handles, which made it easy to pull out of the overhead stow on the airplane.- The bag has one mesh pocket that extends the length of the top zipper lid/flap. This easily fits a computer and other items and can be cushioned based on the contents inside.- The bag has one side zipper pocket that can be accessed from both the outside and inside. I personally did not like that the same pocket could be accessed either way. While it can be convenient, if you're storing a passport or travel documents, I do not want it accessible from the outside for security purposes. The pocket is also very large without sectioning making it challenging to find what you're looking for if it's packed full.Reason for 4 Stars:- Overall, I do really like this bag, but don't anticipate that I'll use it as a carryon again. I was a bit disappointed there weren't additional pockets inside for organizing. The design is very minimal with one large mesh pocket on the top and the large side pocket that it was stored in. If I were using this for camping or did not have much to pack there would be no issue and I would rate it 5 stars. Having a type A personality, my preference is to have more organization and separation of contents, which you cannot do with this bag as-is.- When you receive the bag, it is packed inside of the side zipper pocket. It is INCREDIBLY difficult to get out when you receive it - I initially thought I was unpacking it wrong and had to watch a youtube video. I was doing it correctly, but it felt like I was close to ripping the zipper simply trying to get the duffelunpacked. I don't anticipate I'll be able to restore it the way it came. Design fail imo.

Nothing inside our bags got wet, zippers held up perfectly, then we threw them onto the train from Rome to Calabria Lamezia Terme from there the bags although full were able to confirm/ not rigid to fit into our small Italian car our driver picked us with at the train terminal then drive us to Catanzaro! The bags arrived, no exterior scrapes or scratches, zippers fully in tack, and bonus when we arrived at our villa with little storage space all the bags fit into one bag flat for storage! We purchased those because last time we came to Italy we used American size luggage with wheels, this was a huge rookie mistake because they don’t roll over cobble stone streets well, we had to carry them up flights of stairs for both airport, train stations and our villa has 4 flights of stairs to our front door, not to mention it was hard to find a driver/ car big enough to fit hard suitcases. Lesson learned! These duffles where much better, we each used a small trolly carry on suitcase each, we stacked the 40L duffle on each trolly carrier and slung over shoulder the 35L duffles, this made it very easy to walk fast and up and down stairs and fit into small cars, train storage compartments and still remain weather proof from the flight deck. EXCELLENT Duffle Bags will get years of use from them, well done Patagonia!Grazie Mille dall’Italia

Fire Didn’t Stand a Chance!

Let me start off by saying , I am in love with my black hole duffel bag. I purchased it a few months back and have traveled with it multiple times already. I went from hauling a tote bag around the airport, to comfortably backpacking around the airport with the adjustable straps and never worrying about if my bag would fit in an overhead compartment. Also, I am in love with the black, purple, teal color combo of my bag.Second, let me tell you how durable this thing is. A couple months back I was staying at my boyfriends house. The next day we were able to safely retrieve the bag from the kitchen. Let me tell you, this bag was basically untouched. No burn holes, no scorching, absolutely nothing other than being filled with my clothes and debris. I was in shock that it actually made it through a pretty devastating fire. So I just wanted to write a testament on how awesome and durable this bag seems to be! Unfortunately, I was unable to get the awful smell of fire out of the bag, so I am not going to be able to use the bag again :/ BUT I will definitely be buying another one as I have a trip coming up and there is NO OTHER bag I would rather use to travel with. If you haven’t purchased this bag, do yourself a favor and order ASAP. You will not be disappointed!

Good Not Great

Overall duffel bag build quality is top notch, matte finish, recyclable materials, and the top opening is perfect in that you get the full size bag to insert items, however just like the title says the bag is good but not great. For the price point its missing some features such as: side storage for shoes or wet items (I get that on a $30 Adidas duffel bag), what about straps to cinch down the bag if you aren't filling up the bag (it awkwardly folds in on itself), carry handle are awkwardly long. This goes together with the lack of straps to cinch down the bag makes it awkward to carry when not maxed out on space. Lastly I wish the top flap covering the zippers came down 1/4 inch more to provide a little more coverage for the zippers from the outdoor elements since ... MoreOverall duffel bag build quality is top notch, matte finish, recyclable materials, and the top opening is perfect in that you get the full size bag to insert items, however just like the title says the bag is good but not great. On the inside its fine not having dividers or anything else taking up space. The large cavity is perfect for maxing out space and organizing to how I travel and pack rather than being limited.

Great bag, a little large for petite person
7 August 2024

Got this bag for a week-long trip and it didn’t disappoint! I was able to fit my toiletry bag and clothes with room to spare. Bought the nouveau green. Such a pretty color with hints of the neon. I love the new matte material and prefer it over the glossy. Extra points for it being recycled material. The reason why I gave it 4 stars is because it is a bit large for someone my size and the backpack straps. For reference I am 5’1” and size XS/S. I knew it would be a little large before I bought it though and it didn’t make wearing it uncomfortable. Since I am shorter the excess backpack straps dangled when I adjusted them and I would recommend for there to be a way to either tuck them in, hide them, or make it an infinity-type strap.

Great bag, would like a waist belt
15 November 2024

Nice, big open lid to access the entire interior. Stiff fabric keeps the bag standing up while packing or accessing contents. Good size for carry on, but sturdy enough that I didn’t worry about gate checking it at the last minute. Areas to improve: add a detachable waist belt; find a way to tuck the duffel handles; add a roller bag compatible pass through handle. I packed this full and heavy, then found that the weight distribution wasn’t great - my shoulders were very unhappy; the duffel handles are either connected and pressing into my back to flopping around and getting caught; dealing with my large roller bag would have been easier if I could have slipped the Black Hole over the luggage handle (I had a second smaller backpack with me as well).

Light, good looking, handy - not an overhead bin hog

Looks smaller in person. If partially filled, handle carry is essential because in backpack orientation everything slumps to the bottom. I would like to see internal tie down straps like in a typical wheel aboard. Yeah i could fill it up so stuff doesn't shift, but then I’d exceed my 7kg weight limit. Top feature #1 - 2lbs almost half the weight of my MLC. Top feature #2 - set it on the room counter and I don’t have to unpack thanks to the wide opening U-mouth that gives total access, and the lid folds into the gap next to the wall. Biggest (but unavoidable) neg - the handles are of course across the lid, but so are the shoulder straps so airport walking is ok but don’t plan on hiking, the hand wrap and straps will press on your back or, if unjoined, flap around and ... MoreLooks smaller in person. Not a backpack; it's just a pricey duffle bag

Decent bag; it is roomy (40 liters) and you can quickly search it for whatever you need. This is not a bag where access is restricted (it has a wide mouth). It seems to shed water well, so you won't need to shell out extra for a more water repellent feature offered by other brands. If you travel on RyanAir you are always conscious of a bag size. You never know when an agent is going to subject you to a size test; which if you fail, is costly. This bag is slightly larger than allowed for a PAID carry-on bag (on RyanAir), but if you pack well, it might pass muster. You do not want to overstuff this bag because you could end up having to pay for a checked bag at the counter. There is no shoulder strap. This bag is slightly larger than allowed for a PAID carry-on bag (on RyanAir), but if you pack well, it might pass muster. You do not want to overstuff this bag because you could end up having to pay for a checked bag at the counter. There is no shoulder strap. The most notable negative feature is its lack of a hip belt or a chest belt; this means all of the weight sits on your shoulders and these straps are not well padded. When you are waiting online at an airport or walking around a terminal with 20+ pounds sitting entirely on your shoulders, you will miss a true backpack. I like this bag if I don't have to use airports, or, I don't have to worry about walking around an airport. It is a great bag if you want to throw it in your car and drive somewhere, but if that's the case, you paid too much for shoulder straps you won't use. So, all in all, I think the hybrid idea fails. It's not a good backpack and the extras make it a pricey duffle; you should buy one or the other. For airports, I recommend a wide-mouthed backpack that allows you carry weight more efficiently/easily, but for a duffle, get a wide-mouthed bag and don't pay extra for shoulder straps.
