This is a wonderful jacket. They stand to the wear and tear of kids. It's cute, easy to zip, warm, great for car rides and car seats, etc. Unfortunately it has NO COAT LOOP for hanging it up (two seasons ago they did have coat loops), which is almost a deal breaker because at school its hard to keep it hung up without a hook.A new feature I love is that there are elastic cinchers on the inside sides of the jacket which help to cinch up the jacket a bit if its too big. They also include a patch. But I would give up both of those new things to have the hanging coat loop back. PLEASE BRING IT BACK!

I bought this in red for my 8 year old and was dismayed that there was no longer a hanger loop. After a few days of struggling with hanging the jacket up by our door, I came up with a simple hack. I looped a ribbon through the tag and we now hang it up by the ribbon. This only works because the tag itself a loop/tubular and the jacket is very light. Please bring back the real loops though! But in the meantime, my little hack works for us and hopefully it can work for others who are reading this review.

We have always purchased Down Sweaters for our kids and absolutely love them. This coat unfortunately started having feathers poke through from day one and it has not stopped a month into wearing. Unfortunately, the feathers sticking out leave little holes when they get pulled out and I suspect we will have a number of small holes due to this weird issue in no time. Our other jackets have never had this problem so Im hopeful it is a one off, but a serious bummer for a $140 kids coat.

This is the third Down Sweater we have purchased for our son and we will probably continue to buy them. They are warm, light and hold up to being washed often. It's a great jacket. Just two things we were not crazy about with this one: 1) On all our other Patagonia jackets, they come with a loop to hang the jacket. This one did not for some reason. I hope they put that back. 2) We weren't crazy about the writing and animal print on the inside of the jacket. Would have preferred that to be a color or would have loved for the jacket to be reversible so he can change up the look every once in a while.
This is a nice jacket as you would expect from Patagonia. However, the lack of a hanger loop is a glaring flaw. Now, dont get me wrong this omission sounds fairly innocuous, but what parent isnt trying to get their kid to clean up after themselves? It turns out that the combination of no hanger loop and a virtually frictionless material will defy nearly any effort of little hands to hang it on the mudroom wall hook. Its a good looking jacket that performs well just as long as you dont mind finding it on the floor.
Patagonia is amazing! I had purchased a very similar jacket about 4 or 5 years ago for my oldest kid, tiny holes started to form along the arm seem while my second kid was using it. I took it to Patagonia for repair, and it was determined the repair would change the fit of the arm width. They offered to replace the jacket at no cost. Amazing!! What other company does that?!?! This style does run a bit smaller than my original jacket, but it still works and I have a third kid who will get lots of use out of it too! Buy well & buy once!
I'm 5'5" and weigh 98 pounds. A few years I discovered that extra large boys sizes fit me perfectly (also save me money). This is my second down sweater. I lived in the first one from September through May, first thing I put on in the morning, last thing off at night, in a drafty old house hard to heat above 62 degrees. Eventually feathers begin to poke out and get on everything, so after four years of nearly every day wear and many washings, I got this lovely new one. Now we need Patagonia to make down sweater weight pants!
Wasn’t sure on the colour to be honest but she already has a black version in the previous girls fit of the down sweater. It just needs a little hook to hang it. And I would love for it to have a pull-elastic along the bottom, to sinch in the waist so the cold can’t get through. But my child’s jacket is for school mornings in winter so she will be wearing a thermal top, long-sleeve school top, a thick school polofleece underneath. With the Patagonia Torrentshell rain jacket over the top. So plenty of layers anyway. But yeah. Those two things would be preferential.I miss the fit of the girls one, I love the darts and the slight duck-tail of the back. Really attractive jacket and I do miss that!
My son is almost 11 and he has had a total of three down sweaters (aka puffers) since the age of 18 months until now. Both the quality and the fit are such that they last for years - for a growing kid!! Its crazy. They are more expensive than some but three coats in ten years is pretty amazing for those fast-growing ages. Plus they are handed down to his sister!! My only complaint is that there is no way to hang this one. It is so weird! We have to hang it on the collar area which of course falls down. Kind of a major miss if you ask me. Otherwise, were happy. Love the color. As far as sizing, he is a fairly small almost 11 year old and we could have easily gone with the small but pushed a bit for the medium to get a year or two out if it.
I have bought this jacket for my son in bigger and bigger sizes every year for the past 6 years, but this year I was super disappointed to see that they no longer put that little loop at the back of the jacket's neck that allows him to hang it up on a hook. Where did the loop go? My son's jacket now slides off the hooks we've got at home for outerwear, and the hook he's got in his locker at school, ending up dirty on the floor. I can't imagine why they discontinued the loop; any active jacket I know has one, and it's especially important for kids. Please bring it back next year or else I'm going to have to buy a different brand, which would be sad.
