I live in TX, so that layering system is rarely needed. Most of the time I wear this over a t-shirt and flannel on chilly (50ish) days around town. It's great for that! The warmth of this is just about right for running errands around town, hanging at the trailhead, or for backyard hangs around the fire pit. The zipper runs great and is easy to start while not snagging on my neck when fully zipped. One small feature that I really like is the stitching around the collar that keeps it pulled away from the neck when unzipped. The product photos show this well. I have some puffy jackets that don't do this. It's a small thing but it adds to the comfort and style of the sweater. Also, the fabric is super soft feeling both inside and out!I'm looking forward to testing how well it holds up over time!

I can't comprehend how it would break after using only several times and if it did break, bring to Patagonia store or mail in and have them repair, or bring to local tailor/seamstress. This is the best jacket I've owned and I spend most of my time outdoors between ski patrol and guided tours this jacket has seen it all.

Fantastic and Almost Perfect

This is a very comfortable fully featured down jacket. The fit is perfect (175lbs). Its very warm and is extremely light. Hand pockets are inside the down layer so they're really warm and the inside pockets are very large so I can stuff my gloves and scarf in there when not needed. The inside chest pocket is well designed unlike my Arc Atom LT which has a droopy internal chest pocket that gets a little weird when my phone is in there. The nylon shell seems super solid and I haven't noticed feathers coming out. Solid construction. My reasons for not giving this five stars is:1) They removed the hem adjuster from inside the pocket to the inside of the bottom hem so you can't comfortably adjust them unless the jacket is open or you awkwardly flip it up.2) The ... MoreThis is a very comfortable fully featured down jacket. My neck gets uncomfortable quickly unless I'm wearing a scarf, a collared shirt, or a hoodie so my neck doesn't touch the nylon.I bought this to replace a Columbia down jacket I had for almost 10 years that had a small patch of material just on the neck so I didn't have to worry about what I was wearing to stop my neck from getting clammy.A little microfleece at the neck would be amazing.

Go-to Jacket
20 November 2023

I wear this down jacket all winter long, sometimes sleeping in it after coming home from long Ski Patrol shifts, too tired to change. Its just the right amount of insulation to wear under a shell while boarding. Warm enough (with base layer) hikes, errands around town on 25f days - Any colder and I'll need another layer or heavier down jacket. I regularly work outdoors in howling -20f windchill for 1-2 hrs with this Down Sweater + 3-in-1 Powder Town Jacket + baselayer (plus a very nice set of gloves), usually my feet get cold first before I need to warm up by the fire. Even though this isn't my heaviest down, its the one that gets, by far, the most use. Fits under boarding shell in winter or rain jacket in spring. Exterior has survived many winter hikes through brush with no tears yet. Wrist elastic bands and waist pulls keep heat in very well. Another patroller has the exact jacket, we both notice a slight bulge in the upper belly from the zipper which gives a slightly less than flattering profile that I've never seen in any other Patagonia down, but thats my only minor gripe.

Unfortunately the ends of the sleeves were very large, allowing the sleeves to droop down halfway over my hands. The elastic seemed very weak. Additionally, the zipper on the most recent sweater was tiny, compared to the zipper on my current sweater. I fear that it regressed back to the quality of the weak, failed zipper on my first sweater. For the two reasons mentioned, we returned the recently purchased sweater, and I'm just going to keep taping up the holes in number 2 that I'm wearing now. With regular repairs, I think it will last a few more years. Hope this feedback is helpful. Best, Allen

My jacket is about 1.5 years old & from the first 3 months it was showing so easily the wear on the shell. So many cold spots throughout the jacket, no hand warming fleece lining in the jacket & Patagonia cannot figure out how to make a proper hook for hanging their jackets. I get reducing material but my over a decade-old Mountain Hardwear Jacket has stood up better than this. I am honestly worried this jacket wont make it to 3 years without falling apart. I should've not been so impatient & gotten the Mtn Hardwear alternative. Seems like the update with a Nylon shell will be more durable than the outgoing Poly. I am literally afraid to use this jacket outside where I might have it in a risky situation where it might tear or rip. I watch everything I rub on thinking "did I tear or make a run in the shell just then?" Really hope the upgrade is a better product as I used to trust Patagonia.

So i turned in my 3 year old down jacket that fit perfect, because it was loosing so much down and I was freezing in it. The picture online makes this jacket look perfect.First, when wet, the down smells like a wet dog. Maybe the cleaning process of the feathers is not working well. Im going to keep washing it. Second, the arm stitching is sloppy. There is so much excess material. My arms look huge, bulky and uneven. Third, I visit stores and they seem to be rude about any comments I made about the poor jacket. Also the new design around the wrists are just huge, with no elastic sleeve to keep the jacket in place when wearing an undershirt. Plus, the cold wind pours in both from the sleeves and waist. Not Durable

I’ve been a member of REI since 1978 so I’ve been around a while. This is my first review, and it won’t be pretty. On 21 Mar 2023 I purchased a Patagonia Down Sweater, item # 2085920023. I researched and a few reviews claimed the outer shell was one of the more durable ones. The other day I returned from a 9-day motorcycle camping trip. The only good thing I can say about it is it kept me warm and fit well. I’d wear the jacket for a few hours in themorning, then again in the evening when we were setting up camp. If I wasn’t wearing it, it was in an Enlightened Equipment quilt bag, then inside the top bag of my well-known-manufacturer luggage. Although I did wear it one night in my sleeping bag as I gave my quilt to someone who was cold. I just finished patching 3 holes and there are 4 spots where down is leaking out of sewn seams. This is ridiculous. I worked construction and the well-known-manufacturer down vest I had was much more durable…by a long shot. And it was 1/5 the cost. Not that there’s anything wrong with lattes, but if all you’re going to do is wear this to town while going for lattes, this should be OK. But if you plan on taking this into the wilderness, I’d look for another brand. I realize REI has a 1-year satisfaction return policy, but I probably won’t take advantage of it. For one thing it just doesn’t feel right as I did use the jacket, plus I’d have to look for another jacket. But I’d bet the farm I won’t buy another Patagonia down jacket or sweater. I gave this a 2 rating because while it did keep me warm, at the rate it's falling apart I'll be wearing a duct tape covered jacket in a year.
