The zipper runs great and is easy to start while not snagging on my neck when fully zipped. One small feature that I really like is the stitching around the collar that keeps it pulled away from the neck when unzipped. The product photos show this well. I have some puffy jackets that don't do this. It's a small thing but it adds to the comfort and style of the sweater. Also, the fabric is super soft feeling both inside and out!I'm looking forward to testing how well it holds up over time!

Great jacket for all kinds of activities. I've used it casually around town, walking the dog, on some strenuous hikes and even some trail running when the temperature was in the single digits / teens. It is perfect for those cold starts or while you warm up waiting for your partner in the parking lot. I love the chest zip pocket and that it packs down super small so you can throw it in your pack when you inevitably start sweating! You can open the hand pockets for a little ventilation, but it does get too hot for sustained running.Sizing break down: I wear a large in the old Nano Puff Bivy, so I thought a large would be best in this jacket as well. I think a medium would actually work better if you only plan to wear a thin/light baselayer underneath. I'm 6'0" ... MoreGreat jacket for all kinds of activities. The users who wrote "fell apart" must of washed with rocks and dried in a fire? I can't comprehend how it would break after using only several times and if it did break, bring to Patagonia store or mail in and have them repair, or bring to local tailor/seamstress. This is the best jacket I've owned and I spend most of my time outdoors between ski patrol and guided tours this jacket has seen it all.

Hello Patagoina: This is my third men's down sweater. The first one's zipper was very weak and failed after a couple years' use. It also developed many small holes at the seams that allowed the feathers to escape. The second, which I'm wearing now, has a much stronger zipper ... no problems with it at all ... nice! Unfortunately the ends of the sleeves were very large, allowing the sleeves to droop down halfway over my hands. The elastic seemed very weak. Additionally, the zipper on the most recent sweater was tiny, compared to the zipper on my current sweater. I fear that it regressed back to the quality of the weak, failed zipper on my first sweater. For the two reasons mentioned, we returned the recently purchased sweater, and I'm just going to keep taping up the holes in number 2 that I'm wearing now. With regular repairs, I think it will last a few more years. Hope this feedback is helpful. Best, Allen

My jacket is about 1.5 years old & from the first 3 months it was showing so easily the wear on the shell. So many cold spots throughout the jacket, no hand warming fleece lining in the jacket & Patagonia cannot figure out how to make a proper hook for hanging their jackets. I get reducing material but my over a decade-old Mountain Hardwear Jacket has stood up better than this. I am honestly worried this jacket wont make it to 3 years without falling apart. I should've not been so impatient & gotten the Mtn Hardwear alternative. Seems like the update with a Nylon shell will be more durable than the outgoing Poly. I am literally afraid to use this jacket outside where I might have it in a risky situation where it might tear or rip. I watch everything I rub on thinking "did I tear or make a run in the shell just then?" Really hope the upgrade is a better product as I used to trust Patagonia.

Light and Warm

So warm and wind resistant for its weight. Hood fits great - with or without a hat and fits nicely around my neck. Zippers work smoothly and the pockets are beautifully sized for anything I need to carry. I have a slight sizing problem as I am somewhere between a medium and large - so I sized up to a large which makes the length perfect for me but leaves a bit too much airspace inside the jacket for my skinny frame to heat up when first walking out into the cold. After 5 minutes or so I generate enough body heat that its not a problem. I also own a Nanopuff hoody (for warmer days, wet weather and to use as an under layer under my DAS parka - making me invincibly warm). Patagonia has provided one of the only ethically sourced down items I know of. That combined with their commitment to fair labor practices and the kind of quality that lasts a lifetime makes this a very satisfying item to own and wear. I confess, I look forward to putting it on every morning.Altogether- its a great piece and well worth the money - like most Patagonia products

I’ve been a member of REI since 1978 so I’ve been around a while. This is my first review, and it won’t be pretty. On 21 Mar 2023 I purchased a Patagonia Down Sweater, item # 2085920023. I researched and a few reviews claimed the outer shell was one of the more durable ones. The other day I returned from a 9-day motorcycle camping trip. The only good thing I can say about it is it kept me warm and fit well. I’d wear the jacket for a few hours in themorning, then again in the evening when we were setting up camp. If I wasn’t wearing it, it was in an Enlightened Equipment quilt bag, then inside the top bag of my well-known-manufacturer luggage. Although I did wear it one night in my sleeping bag as I gave my quilt to someone who was cold. I just finished patching 3 holes and there are 4 spots where down is leaking out of sewn seams. This is ridiculous. I worked construction and the well-known-manufacturer down vest I had was much more durable…by a long shot. And it was 1/5 the cost. Not that there’s anything wrong with lattes, but if all you’re going to do is wear this to town while going for lattes, this should be OK. But if you plan on taking this into the wilderness, I’d look for another brand. I realize REI has a 1-year satisfaction return policy, but I probably won’t take advantage of it. For one thing it just doesn’t feel right as I did use the jacket, plus I’d have to look for another jacket. But I’d bet the farm I won’t buy another Patagonia down jacket or sweater. I gave this a 2 rating because while it did keep me warm, at the rate it's falling apart I'll be wearing a duct tape covered jacket in a year.

Ruined a classic

I had my last down sweater for 10 years, wore it on three different continents and on countless climbing, hiking, skiing, running, biking and traveling adventures. It was my go to for everything including the casual hangout. When it finally started to kick the bucket I thought I could just get the same thing again for another decade without having to try anything new because my size is hard to find, but the new design killed that idea. After wearing this jacket for a winter season I have concluded that everything I loved about it is gone. The fit is too slim and too short, almost like a women's fit. I have a climber's build so slim at the waste but a little broader in the lats and shoulders and I feel cramped and can't easily raise my arms without it uncomfortably ... MoreI had my last down sweater for 10 years, wore it on three different continents and on countless climbing, hiking, skiing, running, biking and traveling adventures. I have a climber's build so slim at the waste but a little broader in the lats and shoulders and I feel cramped and can't easily raise my arms without it uncomfortably constricting and letting in a bad belly draft. I'd go a size up but then the arms would be too long. They are already a bit long and without the elastic at the ends the cuffs get in the way...they keep getting in my oatmeal. When zipped up the neck is too tight and the hood is bunched up in the back. Even when the hood is on it's tight and squashes your face. There's no comfortable way to have it zipped all the way up so you have to leave it splayed open and in the way. Oh, and the hood is tiny, definitely not helmet compatible so wearing a shell over with a helmet is annoying because there's just this bunch in your neck. It feels like this jacket was designed to personal preference/ proportions without experience and it bums me out. Please, please bring back something closer to the classic style. In the mean time I'm looking for something else and lamenting my loss.

So far so good

I just bought this jacket last week so I can’t speak on long term durability but so far I’m satisfied with my purchase. Are there lighter, warmer, and more compressible options out there? Yes, but I chose Patagonia because I like what they stand for as a brand and with this Down Sweater Hoody I feel like they have a solid product that meets my needs. I reached out to Patagonia as I read in a few places the amount of fill has been increased this year which they did confirm is roughly 150 grams on my size large and I have to say it’s extremely warm even with just a T-shirt underneath. I can’t compare to the previous models due to this being my first down jacket from them but I would feel comfortable taking it down to the upper teens lower twenties without needing to ... MoreI just bought this jacket last week so I can’t speak on long term durability but so far I’m satisfied with my purchase. The only downside I’ve come across so far wood be that the sleeves are a little too long for 5 star comfort. A minor gripe for how happy I am with the jacket so far given that they do stay in place around my wrist and don’t slide down over my hand. Time will tell to see if the jacket holds up long term but with Patagonia’s reputation in standing behind their products and lifetime warranty I’d say I’m confident in my purchase.

I can’t compare to the previous models due to this being my first down jacket from them but I would feel comfortable taking it down to the upper teens lower twenties without needing to layer too much as long as it wasn’t too windy or wet out.
