I love the fit of this jacket. 6ft 2in and 200-210lbs and it is a great outer layer or mid layer when it is super cold. The one thing that prevents me from giving it 5 stars is that it needs a helmet hood and a 2 way front zipper. If it had those things, it would be the best climbing jacket I could think of. I bought the DAS Light as well to try, but it doesn't have drop pockets, a bottom hem cinch (so makes the jacket almost useless then), and it just doesn't feel as comfy as the micropuff. I think the Micro would be awesome if it kep all of its current features - but added an adjustable helmet hood and 2 way zipper. Nearly free additions and minimal added weight and it is a sure winner. I think with that, the DAS Light would be superflous since all of us bring hardy shells for conditions anyways. The micro is almost perfect.

I love this jacket. Definitely a great purchase. Patagonia is one of the biggest hitters in the industry for a reason. I’ve worn the Micro Puff hiking and cycling in cold weather, and it’s perfect. It’s very light, and packs very small. I found that it even blocks wind fairly well when cycling. I have a Diamond Quilted Bomber, and while it’s a great jacket, I don’t like where the top of the zipper ends, like a regular jacket. When you zip up the Micro Puff, you really seal out the cold. Hopefully it lasts forever, because this thing is in for a beating! lol

These are my personal preferences, as everyone is different. I've used the jacket skiing and casual wear in temps ranging from -3 to 25 degrees Fahrenheit. I'll start with what I didn't like about the jacket. I prefer a zippered chest pocket, which I find useful when on the mountain or in town. The neck portion is snug and slightly uncomfortable when fully zipped and not using the hood. It is still a bit snug while using the hood too. If you're a person who runs super hot, this could still work for you, but be prepared to sweat and find what works for you. Layer lightly, for sure but also don't freeze. Now on to the goods! I highly recommend this one if you're looking for a great alternative to a down jacket. It's super light and warm, dries fast, and layers well. ... MoreThese are my personal preferences, as everyone is different. With a few minor adjustments in the neck fit, this is hands down still a bomber piece to have!

Great Update

This is my 4th Micro Puff Hoody and still my favorite jacket. I've owned 3 of the previous version and this review is for the current version. The construction is a huge improvement from the original version. Not a single strand of Pluma Fill was sticking out of the seams. The exterior has a satin like finish. Much better than the shinier version. Pluma Oil is nice and compact. Doesn't puff up like the previous "Michelin Man" version. It's as warm as ever and I really like the feel against bare skin when wearing a t-shirt. Props on adding the bottom drawstring. Allows me to trap heat in my core. Previous version was too loose in the lower part and heat escaped. Inner pockets are great for gloves or anything else you want to protect. Two big issues: (1) As others ... MoreThis is my 4th Micro Puff Hoody and still my favorite jacket. Allows me to trap heat in my core. Previous version was too loose in the lower part and heat escaped. Inner pockets are great for gloves or anything else you want to protect. Two big issues: (1) As others have stated the neck area is too tight. In my case (17" neck) I can barely zip up the jacket past my neck unless I pull up the zipper super hard to get it past my chin. Even then it's so tight it pushes my lower jaw back uncomfortably so this function is useless for me. This is a weird sizing problem that needs to be fixed in production. (2) The main zipper is still sticky. You need to be sure the zipper is straight before trying to either zip it up or down. Any kink in the zipper will meet resistance, not to mention frustration. This was also a major problem in the original version of this jacket which caused the zipper track to separate from the jacket which had me returning 2 of them for replacements. This is why I'm rating the jacket 4 stars although the overall fit is perfect for me.Overall it's a great product and still remains my favorite. Try the jacket on first to verify fit and that the neck closure works for you. Mine were all purchased online as they weren't available in the stores.

Great piece

Love so many things about the Micro puff hoody. I love the tight bivy style hood as it really traps in heat. I love the high hand pockets as it plays well while wearing a backpack with a waist belt. I love how lightweight it is and extremely packable. It’s great at stopping wind. I’m always so impressed with how warm it is even though it is crazy lightweight. I mainly use it for backpacking being that it is so lightweight and packable but I have used it for fishing and on my MTB and around town. I can wear it here in Colorado (front range Denver area) on some of our coldest days. I’m 5’8” 165 lbs with an athletic build and the medium fits great. The first version didn’t have the waist draw cord the second version has which I did prefer as it was more simplified.

Love this jacket!

Love this jacket! I’m 6’1” 220 lbs and the XL fits me perfect, the XXL was kinda baggy and had air gaps in the back and seemed too big for me. Love the vessel blue color too really stands out on the trail or around town. I live in SoCal so the lightweight and warmth of this jacket is pretty much a go to for me in those cool evenings. I am not a climber and don’t wear a harness so for me the side pockets are a little high, but I understand why. The pockets on my down jacket suit me better. I could not find any of these jackets in any stores so had to order the XL and XXL on line to see which one fit better. I returned the XXL to my local Patagonia store in Cardiff.

Most versatile jacket I have ever owned
25 November 2023

My wife and I bikepack and bikepack race in the summer months and ski tour in the winter. We both have a Micro Puff® Hoody! We do not go on any adventure without this jacket. I have one patch on the jacket after getting caught on the corner of our car hood. I have had the zipper repaired once and I am about to send it back again.Based on the amount of use Almost daily), the zipper has held up quite well. The jacket also packs down small and fits in our bikepack bags during the summer and in our packs during the winter.BTW, I NEVER write reviews! But, I do not want Patagonia to stop making this jacket EVER!

My Go-To Jacket
4 December 2023

I knew very little about this jacket when I got it, but I love this jacket. It's great for almost all conditions. It works well above freezing and in a variety of colder and wet conditions. I live in the NE US and wear this jacket down to about 15 degrees F and sometimes below that depending on the humidity. I always bring a shell with me as a companion. I actually wore this jacket while skinning at -37 C in BC a few years back and it was perfect ( it was sunny with no wind but cold). No condensation buildup. I added a shell at the top and skied down. Two days in a row. This is the most versatile jacket I own. All my other jackets just sit on hangers. I feel sorry for them. :(

The. Best. Jacket. Ever
11 November 2023

For years I have been wearing an old nano puff and buying puffy jackets at consignment stores. This year I finally broke down and bought a brand new micro puff with a hood. It s a complete game changer. Miraculously warm, feather light, comfy, stylish, I want to wear it all the time but it is too warm for that! Seriously incredibly gear I hope to wear for many years to come.I am a tall thin woman and the mens XS often fits me better than female sized clothing. Plus often I like the colors better.

Apparently I'm not the only one that has experienced this. It still has its usage and it's still a good jacket but there is room for improvement, in my humble opinion.
