This is by far the most used Patagonia item that I own. Using it for over two years, I have had zero durability problems (not that I would expect any) after wearing it hundreds of times. This jacket has been put through the gauntlet. From hiking in the Tetons, being on the water in Acadia, or even needing another layer skiing, it has kept me warm and in some cases, dry in a light rain. If the temperature is 40 or below, I layer it with baselayers, but if it is above 40, I usually wear just a t-shirt underneath. It does a great job of temperature regulation with me never being too hot or too cold in it. It also packs down well for flying. I can't recommend this product enough!

Basically the best "do anything" winter/fall/spring jacket you can buy. I live in Alaska and use stuff HARD. I have a first generation nano puff hoody that Patagonia repaired numerous times - and despite beating the heck out of it, I haven't gotten it even close to the "replace" stage of its lifecycle. It packs down into a super convenient, portable little square. This, a raincoat, and a R1 layer will handle just about anything my part of the world can throw at you. The Patagonia Ironclad Warranty lives up to its name. While this piece may seem expensive, part of the value is the fact that Patagonia will repair it for you basically until the end of time. Buy once, cry once, and wear forever!

I splurged and bought (on my tight budget) my first nano puff jacket in 2013 for a trip to Europe that required a lot of walking/hiking and frequent weather changes. I also wanted to pack light. The nano puff faced down all that a Spring trip to Europe had to offer and exceeded my expectations immediately. I continued to wear this jacket for the next 10 years almost daily from the time of the first cool breeze in Autumn until it became too warm to wear in Spring/Summer. (On rare Nashville, TN, Winter days I would just add the Patagonia fleece vest underneath and have plenty of warmth.) Over the past 10 years, I would have the jacket repaired multiple times from burn holes, snagged seams, and thinning outer - all done quickly and free of charge by Patagonia. So, I took it in to my local brick-n-mortar, traded it for recycling, and pick up my second ever nano puff. Looking forward to the next 10 years with this one.

Current model (Medium size, Men's) is cut way too snug!
18 May 2024

I've loved this jacked for years. But recently purchased a new model. Something has changed with respect to sizing, and not for the better. I've always worn a Medium Men's. And no, my body has not grown larger! But the new medium sort of feels tight, much more snug that the prior model or version I used for years. The new Large size is not tight but feels/looks way too large. My research shows others have experienced similar problems: The new model, or current model, is cut way too snug. It's not possible to get a great experience with this jacket in the way it is currently cut. Way too snug a fit, at least for the Medium size.I would love it if someone from Patagonia can reach back and begin a conversation about this issue with me directly. Extremely little water repellent
27 April 2023

Great warmth until about 35 degrees Fahrenheit. With a rain jacket over it, it can be warm into the 20s. Over an hour in those temps is easy. Very lacking in the water repellent category. Honestly, it gets soaked about as fast as wearing a blue jean jacket - my wife was wearing a blue jean jacket for comparison. Stays about as warm too. In light rain, for short duration, add a rain jacket. This jacket can’t handle rain at all. After all the hype, I expected more - especially, at $300 after tax. Not worth it.If you want a light, packable, warm jacket that’s made for light wind - great jacket. If you are going to experience any inclement weather (including wind), add a rain jacket. Second Nano Puff - Still Awesome.. one change!
5 February 2024

After purchasing my first nano puff years ago and being very satisfied with all aspects , it was a natural for me to go to this coat again.Definitely not disappointed as the overall practical purposes of design, warmth, durability, compactness, eco -friendliness, and cool factor are all there. One significant improvement I noticed was the extended sleeve design. My first Nano whenever I extended reaching or overhead the sleeves rode up towards my elbows and created the gap between mitten and sleeve. These sleeves do not ride up my arm and during ice climbing, regular climbing or general arm activity, there is really good full sleeve coverage and extension to my wrists. My only real disappointment is the lack of inside pockets that my first Nano had designed in. ... MoreAfter purchasing my first nano puff years ago and being very satisfied with all aspects , it was a natural for me to go to this coat again.Definitely not disappointed as the overall practical purposes of design, warmth, durability, compactness, eco -friendliness, and cool factor are all there. One significant improvement I noticed was the extended sleeve design. They were very large, both sides and I greatly appreciated the easy access and the storage. For convenience and practicality my toque and light gloves were always stored in jacket.Yes i can use the regular pockets on my new one but it bulks the stream line fit and stresses the zipper. Not sure the full liner now incorporated in design is necessary on the inside of jacket. My first one did not have this extra material which i can t see having a practical reason other than easier to produce a less complicated cut and design. Overall great product and an integral part of my outdoor layering systems.B.A. Daniel

Sketchy Stitching on a Great Garment
10 June 2024

Anyone who's considered this iconic jacket and read any reviews should already know that the stitching on the down squares of this jacket is notorious for pulls, snags and failures. It's been that way for years. If you are careful with your clothes, this should not present a problem for you; but if you're a dirtbag, bushwhacker or cowboy, be prepared for some dings and snags. They add "character" I guess; especially with some duct tape patches thrown in for good measure and optics. I personally went for the Down Sweater option, because of the thread pull issue here. I dinged it one star for this problem and a 2nd star for Patagonia's stubborn failure to solve that problem for years.

The Best Everything Jacket Patagonia Makes
2 April 2023

A lot of Patagonia jackets have been redesigned for bigger people and don't fit as trimly as is required for more active use. This jacket fortunately has retained its original fit and thus function with proper length and girth of sleeves that do not get caught up in ropes or chainsaws, the jacket wears well as an outer layer and layers underneath other jackets without bulging or binding. I have an old version that is patched and sewn after more than 10 years of wear and I still use it because it still works. I was hesitant in fact to get a new one, because I figured Patagonia had redesigned this garment like others I used to rely on, but fortunately not. The new one is perhaps slightly more puffy but that could be because my old one is flattened from age. Perfect as currently designed. Hopefully Patagonia won't change it.

Timeless Piece of Clothing
24 August 2024

If you can buy only one piece of Patagonia clothing, the Nano Puff Jacket or Hoody would be the choice. My last one, which I purchased in 1994, lasted 30 years. I just got a new one. Same color; same size.My uses are not hardcore climbing, but I did use the jacket for commute, mid layer for skiing, and casual uses like walking. The thickness and warmth are optimal for the northeast weather during fall, winter, and spring. I literally can use this jacket for three out of four seasons in a year.SAM

Wanted to love the jacket
3 March 2023

Overall I was excited to get this jacket. I run pretty warm and have been looking for a light windproof jacket that I could wear daily during the winter. Overall it met my expectations of being light and warm enough to not have me freezing in the winter. However I feel like Ive found negatives to this jacket that sadly ruin the overall expectation for me. Ive only had the jacket for a month and there has been visible treads coming undone near the waist, cuffs/forearms, and shoulders. Im not being hard on the jacket, and I would consider the one thing that might be seen as hard on the jacket is wearing a backpack every now and then. Overall I just didnt expect these issues to start occurring until years of wearing the jacket. Not just 3-4 weeks. If you are looking to absolutely buy one I would only recommend getting a black one. You wont see stains that easily this way, and the stitching coming undone wont be terribly visible either potentially. As my jacket color and thread color are 2 different colors. For the price I just don't feel like the jacket will last through normal wear and tear as time goes on.
