A Cheap Imitation of its Predecessors

This fleece has the widest comfort range of any jacket I own. A long cut, below the waist adds comfort. Breaths very well under excursion but still has the ability to block a
light breeze. With light layering, I can wear this in the 30s and walk inside unzipped and not break a sweat. Truly amazing and exactly what I was looking for. I bought the cabin
gold for work uniform color and its more attractive than I thought with a raspberry zipper and accents. Top of the zipper is covered to avoid irritating your neck. This has
become my go to jacket.

I purchased one of these two years ago. It is the best piece like this from Patagonia I've ever owned. Everything about it is amazing. I wear it almost daily, for seven months of
the year in MN. Unfortunately the new version has three fit changes and all of them did not work for me. It is now narrower, with looser cuffs and a taller neck. Had to return
this new version and buy an older one from the Worn Wear site. If this jacket fits you, I can't recommend it highly enough. It's warm, stretchy and wind resistant. Sadly, the
new changes in fit didn't work for me.

The R2 Techface excels …. maybe on a late fall/early spring pub crawl…maybe. Sorry Patagonia but you really dropped the ball on this one.... Show more

GOOD ....BUT could be better (fit-wise)

I decided to purchase the R2 TechFace after a mt biking /gravel bike and XC ski touring season in Michigan with my R 1 TechFace jkt. AND my girlfriend's input with her R2 Tech during our XC ski trip to Michigan's U.P. last year. The ONLY issue I've had with some of Patagonia 's jackets ('slim fit' ONLY :-( is the use of "INSET" sleeves in the men's vs a 'RAGLAN' style in the women's. (which give a bit more roomt hru shoulders & armpits )My R1 techface was re-designed last year and given a bit more room thru the sleeve opening area, which in turn gave me JUST enough room to wear a R1 regulator on colder days.I cannot understand why the design tean wwould give the women's a RAGLAN sleeve and NOT the men's ???Considering for the most part, men usually have bigger ... MoreI decided to purchase the R2 TechFace after a mt biking /gravel bike and XC ski touring season in Michigan with my R 1 TechFace jkt. IF this mwn's R2 TechFace had the raglan sleeves, I would have given it 5 stars. JUST A BIT SNUG in the armpits with anything more then a mid wt baselayer. And for reference, I'm 5-6 & 140.COMEON Design Team!! For your 'ACTIVE jackets that are meant to use during outdoor activities - can you start designing with a more "ACTIVE FIT" vs 'slim' and give us guys those RAGLAN sleeves.I understand "slim" works for baselayers, but just "SLIGHTLY" more more would be nice in a mid layer or a jacket that COULD also be used as a outer layer.Your question below asks - "OVERALL" fit = and mine works fine everywhere EXCEPT the armpits / shoulder girth... Light Fleece Under-Layer or Early Fall Jacket
2 December 2021
I purchased this jacket, which feels like fleece and a softshell had a baby, as a fleece to get me through the fall days when my daughter wants to hang out on the playground after school here in Boston. I was universally disappointed by the jacket I received as it really doesn't match the product description in any way.Lets go through the different claims and the reality: "provides extended versatility in shifting mountain conditions" - this jacket is a viable layering item but it will provide only the most minimal amount of wind protection and no real protection from rain; "high-loft, double-weave fabric is soft and warm but also highly breathable" - given that this is the R2 TechFace Jacket and there is a R1 jacket I expected the R2 to have some more weight to ... MoreI purchased this jacket, which feels like fleece and a softshell had a baby, as a fleece to get me through the fall days when my daughter wants to hang out on the playground after school here in Boston. Love it
15 November 2023
I bought this R2 TechFace Jacket (Nouveau Green) to replace a worn out Mountain Hardware fleece that I've had forever. I've only had this jacket for a month, but I already love it and it's now my go-to jacket. It fits great and for me can be worn over lighter layers (like my trusty R1) or under a shell or other warmer layer if it's really cold. The jacket is warm and super comfortable. Really happy with this purchase.... Show more

Probably the best midlayer I've ever used
17 January 2021
I've had this jacket for about a year and a half now. I've put it through the wringer: Taken it to the mountains in Peru and New Zealand, salt deserts in South America, dry climates in Utah and wet and unpredictable New England. I also live in Chicago, so it gets a lot of cold and foul-weather use.Performance-wise, it's become my go-to for just about anything where the weather isn't TOTALLY awful.- Best midlayer I've ever had. Pair it with the proper base and outer and you're set for almost anything.- Warm enough as an around-town jacket down to about the mid 30's.- Great as an outer with the proper wool baselayer for hiking in milder temps.- Excellent wind protection.- Fleece feels great on bare skin.- Highly durable. I've worn it in every condition ... MoreI've had this jacket for about a year and a half now. I've worn it in every condition imaginable and stuffed it in the smallest nooks and it comes out looking new.- Good moisture-resistance, though not totally waterproof.- Breathability isn't the BEST, but it's better than I expected and haven't had any real issues there.- Looks great with proper sizing, a bit technical looking but I find it a slim-fit and stylish enough for casual wear.Only thing(s) I don't like were fit-related and therefore highly subjective. The sleeves were long for me, I had them altered to correct this. Also the waist area is on the tight side, but it's flexible enough that this isn't much of an issue.I'm hard on my gear in my work and play, and this one earned it's first-choice piece status from me. Couldn't go wrong!... Show more

too delicate, some design flaws
29 February 2024
I prefer fleeces with a non-pile outer texture like this, as they are often more durable and wear better (don't pill), however this material pills very easily (on the wrists and hips especially) and is unreasonably prone to snagging.I mostly (only) wear this around the house, and it is showing wear after only about 6 months. I have other Patagonia layers that are a decade old and look no worse! My biggest gripe are the decorative darts on the inside of wrists. They are a non-fleece material that looks great, but are actually quite annoying: they are a thin stretchy material that gets stinky (like a synthetic watch band) very quickly between washes and unlike any other layer or jacket I've owned. It is nice and warm for its size and composition!Patagonia sizes/fits ... MoreI prefer fleeces with a non-pile outer texture like this, as they are often more durable and wear better (don't pill), however this material pills very easily (on the wrists and hips especially) and is unreasonably prone to snagging.I mostly (only) wear this around the house, and it is showing wear after only about 6 months. At first it seemed weirdly loose and long, but I got used to it! I am 5'11", pretty skinny and have longer arms, this is the perfect Patagonia M for me! Versatile R2 TechFace Jacket
5 December 2022
This fleece is extraordinary. I am 6'1 and weigh about 200 lbs. I bought a large size. I could easily fit into a medium size if I wanted to be more snug and wear fewer layers. With the large size, I can put on a hoodie, sweater, or other layer underneath, which works for my more mixed use where I use the jacket both casually (more static activities or walks) and for more intense activities (running, hiking). I really appreciate that the jacket is a bit longer than most, so it covers my waist even when I am squatting or bending over, and protects it from wind and cold air. This thing is incredibly cozy, the grid-like interior pile is comfortable. I usually run hotter and was undecided on whether to buy this or the R1 Techface. I'd like to try both, but this one meets my needs when I am in temperates between approximately 0 and 10 degrees Celsius with a minimal base layer, or in colder temps with a thicker base layer or an extra rain shell. It definitely has much better wind resistance than my other fleece jackets. It has already impressed me on a few windy days in southwestern Ontario. It's really versatile and I think you get what you pay for with this fleece. If it fits your niches, I'd say go for it.... Show more

Very happy with the jacket

I didn't go to the local Patagonia store for this item, I came across it while trying on other pieces. I am glad this was mentioned to me by one of the employees. This is my second Patagonia purchase. This is very good jacket. By coincidence the first night I wore it the temps were in the high 40's to low 50's with quite a bit of wind and some decent light rain. It held up really well while I was walking to and from a theater.I have taken this on bike rides in similar temps, including mid to low 40's and windy conditions. It's adequate in these temperatures but you would probably need something warmer, especially while riding.I love all of the pockets. The chest pocket is solid and can hold my iPhone 11. It isn't too light but it certainly isn't heavy. When zipped all the way up, the collar provides fairly good protection and warmth.I bought a size Large because I like to layer but I will say that I do wonder if I could have worn a Medium. I only tried on the Large. For reference, I am 5'7 about 150 lbs, 33 waist, and pretty trim. The jacket is on the longish side and does have some room to spare. I don't think it is too big but I definitely know some people like a trimmer fit. The sleeve length is fine. If I stretch my fingers all the way out the sleeves come down almost to the tips but the sleeves aren't baggy at all. My arms are skinny and to me the sleeves are fine. If you have similar measurements to me and can try them on in the store, a Medium might be a better fit for you. But as I said, I didn't try one on. This is just how the Large itself fits. The R2 is an excellent autumn jacket. I can wear it on long walks, bike rides, to work, and around town. This was a good investment because I know I will have this for several years.... Show more
