This coat offers great versatility and adaptability to various temperature settings. When wearing the full parka with inner coat, it definitely keeps you warm and dry, though I would not necessarily describe it as life changing, just doing what it is supposed to do at the price point. It has handled the New England winter well so far to date with the several times I have worn the full 3 in 1 style. Earlier in the season, wearing the inner coat only was plenty warm enough, and I look forward to getting continued use from it in various situations. For me, the amount of pockets is adequate, and the pocket space is enough, though others may want more. At full price, may want to think just a little harder about your options, but this coat would still be a good decision.

I made this review in January 2021 when I returned the item, but for some reasons it was not published; I am trying again:I purchased this parka a year or so ago and returned after a few-time wearing it. The problem was that the down filling comes out through the shell, which was quite disappointing for the price. In addition, although the jacket is highly stylish, I was somewhat disappointed with the level of versatility. I had a Columbia (Double Whammy) 3-in-1 jacket before for a long time. The Columbia is more versatile than the Patagonia Tres. Columbia does not make the same jacket anymore.I can live with the versatility issue as the Patagonia parka, in addition to being more stylish, has some features better than the Double Whammy (e.g., the outside chest ... I just wonder if the leakage issue has been improved since then as I contemplate to order again.

I wanted a robust, yet flexible winter coat, and this one certainly fit the bill. I am in the lighter side (130#s, 5ft 10in). The XS felt tight at the armpit, and the S fit right without feeling too bulky. I was afraid the fabric would be heavy and crunchy, but surprisingly, its is very pliant. The pockets, as others have stated, is a touch odd in its location, but it is not a Dealbreaker. I dot dislike the feel of my hands touching the zipper when I use the pockets. I gather it would feel worse when the weather is really cold. I gather Ill be using gloves though, so that should minimize the feel of the zipper. Thank goodness it is a plastic zipper and not a metal one.The front chest pocket is a key requirement. I love how durable my tres-in-1 parka has been, and I am so happy to know that Patagonia has a service that repairs jackets to prolong the useful life of their products. The one downside so far for me: I cannot purchase a replacement zip-out jacket for my parka. It has lost a lot of its down and no longer provides the same insulation. The outer shell is still fine to wear, so if I could only buy a replacement zip-out jacket, I could wear this tres-in-1 for a few more years, at least! But because I can't, I had to buy a new tres-in-1 jacket and will only use the older parka shell for rain. Please give us owners of the tres-in-1 to buy replacement zip-outs. Thank you for your time.
I had a previous version of this parka for 10 years, and unfortunately it was accidentally destroyed. The Patagonia warranty department helped me replace it with this new version. It's largely the same, which is great given how much I liked the old one, but there are few changes worth noting.First is that the inner puffer jacket now has elastic cuffs on the sleeves. For casual wear, I prefer open cuffs, so that's not my favorite.Second is that the pockets on the shell are significantly different. My old version had pockets with vertically-oriented zippers on the side of the jacket, in the normal place where you'd expect a zipper if you wanted to put your hands in your pockets. On the new one, the pockets are more towards the front, and the zippers are a lot more ... MoreI had a previous version of this parka for 10 years, and unfortunately it was accidentally destroyed. My old version had pockets with vertically-oriented zippers on the side of the jacket, in the normal place where you'd expect a zipper if you wanted to put your hands in your pockets. On the new one, the pockets are more towards the front, and the zippers are a lot more horizontal. Which means when you put your hands in them, you kind of have to stick your hands straight down, which I find pretty unnatural. In addition, there's a flap covering the pockets, and the zippers on the pockets have large, chunky plastic teeth. If it's cold out and your hands are raw, fighting the flaps and dragging your skin along those teeth is not very pleasant. The pockets seem like they are designed more for storage than for hands at this point.I expect to get many years of use out of this new parka, and I know it will keep me warm and protected, but the odd choices around those front pockets drop it from 5 stars to 3 stars for me.
Love the parka, but after 4 weeks the outer material started to wear, especially where the buttons are. This is not acceptable for a coat this expensive. I think it is a design flaw. There is no padding over the buttons (like in other high end brands) so they wear the outer material.Furthermore in the collar and sleeves the innercoat is attached with very flimsy straps. In other brands this is also way more solid. I think this is also a design flaw and unacceptable for a coat this expensive.I returned the coat and got my money back from the shop. They wil send in back to Patagonia.
I am fortunate to have a few Patagonia daily drivers for various activities and uses. For my 20-40 degree daily driver and one jacket for business travel to cold places, I am particular for a certain set of priorities (see title). It needs to be flexible to fit the weather during travel and plane rides.I did not like the look of the Tres 3in1, it was trying to be too slick in style. The old Style of the 3-1 Tres was perfect in style but it was not waterproof at all and would get waterlogged when wet.I decided to go with the Frozen Range because I run cold anyway and for lighter weather trips I could bring a nano puff and storm outer layer.Perfect decision. Thank you Patagonia for letting me swap out my old Tres due to it holding water.I love the insulated hoot, the high cut of the collar, and all materials, and the minimal styling on the jacket. Very warm but if you wear it open it can be worn easily in 20-40 weather in and outdoor.
The jacket is warm and comfortable. Things I think would make it better:Interior pocket stuff sack feels like its going to pop when you shove the jacket into itself. Squatting can get a bit stiff in the jacket when the shell is on. It blocks your hips if you don't unzip. A few feathers started coming out already but not as much as other brands. A good interior pocket on both layers would take this over the top. I like to put a phone or wallet under there instead of on the outside. A slightly wider mouth on all of the pockets. Also wish that there was some type of soft backing when the jacket gets tight around your neck or chin so it doesn't scratch your chin on the zipper.Overall its warm. Comfortable, stylish and fits well. Best jacket I've had but These small ... MoreThe jacket is warm and comfortable. Love the versatility and style of this jacket kit. I live in the PNW and it's perfect for year-round wear. Wear the full kit in the wet cold months - the puffer on dry cold days or just the shell on warmer rainy days.I got a large - I am 6'2 ~210 lbs. The shell without the puffer fits bigger than I would normally wear, but it's just right when the puffer is zipped in. The puffer fit is just right (and it's a nice puffer!)I do feel like the quality is a level above other outdoor brands - the fit and finish, zippers, colors, it's all very nice. Patagonia isn't cheap - but you get what you pay for. If you need one jacket that'll serve several roles that looks stylish enough for work, get this kit.
