Baggies since 1980; Now Colors Fade

Not sure what is going on with the colors. I have lived in baggies since the 1980s. Very much a go-to garment for everything. The last few pairs I have gotten (various colors)
fade fairly quickly (months). In decades past, you knew your baggies had done their job when the elastic in the waist band just vaporized after a decade of use. Now, waist
band is fine, but the rapid bleached out fade in less than six months is disappointing. And, I agree with other longtime Patagonia customers that the cut and sizing of the
Baggies has become more generous over the years. A medium from 1985 is not the same as a medium in 2024.

out two tanks the entire summer. This short is my uniform for the summer, I have the 5" baggie in Sun Tidal Blue, Pimento Red, Black, Salmon which isn't available, however I
am missing my favorite color which you make for women,....Gather Green. Please make this in Gather Green for men. I will buy it. I am sure many others will buy it. I can't

I really wanted to like these shorts, but I don't. The fabric clings to the front of my legs when lifting a knee to go uphill or even squat down. I don't know if it's the cut or the
weight of the fabric, but I it's annoying. I am continually having to reach down and pull the fabric off of my leg. It almost feels as if I was wearing the shorts backwards, which is
not the case. The Patagonia Any Trail shorts, which I have used for years and love, have never given me that problem. When walking on level trails the baggies are fine, but as
soon as I have to step over a boulder, ugh.I am 5'11", 170-lbs with a 34" waist and wearing a medium. Maybe a large would have worked better.

Fit/Cut Has Changed
11 August 2023
I bought my first pair of Baggies in 2007 (and another in 2008) and they're still going strong. I have worn the heck out of those shorts and the elastic is as good or better than any other pair of shorts (other than Baggies) I have bought new within the last year. I decided it was time to grab a new pair of Baggies after 14+ years of wear. My first thought was that the new Baggies (Size Medium) were huge. I measured them against my old pairs and the waist was almost an inch longer (laid flat on my bed and measure across the waist) and the outseam was easily 1/2 inch or longer. The inseam feels much more like a pair of 7 inch inseam shorts, like a pair of Stand Ups. I thought this was a potential one-off pair and reached out to Patagonia. The inseam feels much more like a pair of 7 inch inseam shorts, like a pair of Stand Ups. I thought this was a potential one-off pair and reached out to Patagonia. I spoke with two reps and both of them gave me great information, each something a little different. One mentioned that the cut of the short has not changed, so the sizing should be the same, and the other admitted that it is more than probable that they have changed since I bought my last pair - totally reasonable. So I went ahead and sent them back, thinking they were abnormally big. I went to a local store and tried on a pair of Smalls and they were hardly Baggies - more like Slimmies. So Medium was the right fit for me, and I used the credit from the return of the first shorts to grab a new pair. Unfortunately, the new pair is just as big, perhaps even slightly bigger. I guess all great things come to an end, but the fit of these shorts now is just not the way it used to be. Such a bummer.... Show more

Great shorts
7 September 2024
I'm 70 and have been running for 28 yrs. These are the only shorts I've run in. The selling point was the side and back pockets though if there is any negative (and I'm reaching here) it would be that the side pockets are a little too deep. Any weight in them and they tend to sag down. The back pocket is perfect. It holds my key fob and I don't even know it's there. Very satisfied with the elastic waist band and drawstring. It doesn't roll over and is very comfortable. Quick drying - after a run you can hand wash them and they're dry by day's end. These are also great for casual wear or any outdoor activity. Just an exceptional short.... Show more

Not ready for the adventure
14 September 2023
I bought these to replace a pair that I have worn regularly for water centric adventuring for 8 years (Gi III). They were not a very good replacement. Something about the waistband design causes the shorts to roll down with hardly anything in the pockets. The pockets use the front of the shorts as their front side, so the seam that makes the bottoms of the pockets (which is visible on the front of the shorts and also susceptible to wear, probably one cause of the failure) only needs to fail at one little lockstitch for the whole pocket to come apart, which it will. In my case one pocket failed in two weeks, the other in 2 months. In the single season I had the shorts the fabric was bulletproof, seeing plenty of possible snags in coral and cliffs on less than ideal ... MoreI bought these to replace a pair that I have worn regularly for water centric adventuring for 8 years (Gi III). In the single season I had the shorts the fabric was bulletproof, seeing plenty of possible snags in coral and cliffs on less than ideal water approaches. If you don't care about pockets, these could be perfect, if you always end up with trash or snacks or shells or rocks in your pockets, you might want to look elsewhere. I have had ok luck with the everyday short and loved the Gi III's. The belt waist on both of these is more comfortable for me, and the pockets stand up to much more abuse.... Show more

Unpleasant ‘Surprise’
14 August 2024
I am very familiar with Baggies, as I purchased my first pair in the ‘80’s (and are still wearing them – elastic is shot but the drawstring still works!).I recently purchased 2 pairs in Lago Blue and Subtidal Blue. Much to my surprise, both arrived with different colored pocket flaps! This was not mentioned on the website. In fact, the picture of the Lago Blue shows the pocket flap the same color as the short. In addition, both shorts were made in Nicaragua when the website shows Sri Lanka.I called customer service to report this and the response was flippant – ‘Well you got them on sale and you can return them if you want!” Certainly not the response I expected from a company I previously expected!... What is with the fit? Who are they for?
20 December 2023
Gosh, where to begin? The baggies came highly recommended to me an essential piece to the wardrobe for all things summer.I decided to buy 6 pairs. (2in 5inch and 4 in 7inch) figured the 5s would work well for swim trunks and the 7s for just about everything else including swimming. The materials and colors are great but heres where the issues come. The fit is just. I dont even know how to describe them. I have no idea who these are built for? Obviously not me. Im normally a large, sometimes a medium depending on the style and or brand. I decided on large because i figured they would fit the best.Heres the problem. A Large is too big in the waist. Can barely keep them up, the band is small and the drawcord is weak. Doesnt matter how much I tighten them the inner liner will constantly come out when Im swimming and Im having to tuck it back in.Now I would just go down to a medium but then it would be so tight on my thighs. The large is already so tight around the seat. Theres little to no flex in these. Impossible to do a squat in them without feeling like they will rip.As someone that absolutely loves your outerwear and sweaters and venturing into Patagonia clothing this is a massive disappointment. So to recap. The waist is WAY too big and too tight on the thighs. Which is where I question who these were built for?The design team must have you super skinny legged models because theres absolutely no way that anyone that squats and does lunges on the regular will fit in these.Im open to other suggestions? But the baggies, perfect on the outside but that fit. No way!... Show more

Why wear these??
22 May 2024
Big Patagonia shopper here and I think this is my first review, unfortunately out of confusion and frustration. I genuinely don’t know why one would wear these shorts. If the net liner was stripped out they could potentially be comfortable and flexible as volley shorts. Instead as “everywhere” shorts they’re kind of nowhere shorts. The lining and combined fabrics are too uncomfortable and restrictive for real fitness; board shorts are much more functional for wetness; and they’re too stiff and gnawing to wear as lounge wear — wow and weird! If someone only got to have one pair of shorts ever, then maybe I could see the utility in these, but for people who like to wear clothes matching their activity, these shorts are activity-less and therefore I advise caution. ... MoreBig Patagonia shopper here and I think this is my first review, unfortunately out of confusion and frustration. Women shouldn't have to buy Men's clothes to get Function-ie Decent Pockets
23 October 2023
I now own 3 pairs of Men's Baggies Shorts. Oldest (early1990s), Medium, totally stretched out and now only worn over swimsuit when Snorkeling/SCUBA Diving in warm water. 2nd pair is size Large (Sp 01), my on land shorts, not at all stretched out, and since losing 20#, fit too loosely. I ordered Medium for the new pair, but was dismayed to find that they are the same size in Waist/Hip as my old Large. Tried the Small, but it's too small in the Hips. I kept the Mediums, but they are really too big, which is why I was ordering new smaller shorts in the first place. I don't get Women's because the Women's Baggies have shallow side pockets and no back snap pocket, and as such are not as functional. The back pocket is key as it secures any waterproof item when underwater, and side pockets that allow the contents to fall out every time you sit/squat are totally worthless. Please make clothes that accommodate a women's body but are ALSO just as FUNCTIONAL as the MEN'S. It seems very sad that at Patagonia of all places, I can't have both. I'm almost 68 yrs old, 5'6" and 125#, if that matters.... Show more
