These waterproof pants were purchased for a family member to use if needed on recent travels. Fortunately, the weather was dry so there wasn’t opportunity to really put them through the test. The Torrentshell jackets have been highly rated and it is expected that the pants would be as well. They have a slightly baggier fit to accommodate pants underneath and a thicker 3 layer feel. Likely, they will be perfect for the wet days of fall and winter when dog walking becomes messy on the east coast.

My measurements are 185lbs 5’6” and got the large. Even though it’s the 30” inseam it still fits a little long without my boots on. With boots on, it’s length is perfect. Waist needed to be cinched down a bit with the draw string. Lots of space because it’s suppose to be worn over regular pants. I still feel pretty mobile and flexible with it on. Even though it’s not designed specifically for it, I intend to go snowboarding with these pants and I am confident they will keep me dry move well with me. Looking forward to using these in the spring/summer too. Highly recommend these

These pants are a perfect inseam length (short) fit my legs exactly! The full length leg zippers allow for putting on and taking off, while wearing hiking shoes. I wear them over jeans so I ordered XL and they fit just right. These rain shell pants are the ideal complement to my Torrentshell jacket. The only thing I would like to suggest are riveted suspender buttons; 2 per side on the front and 2 centered on the back of the waistband. This way one could use any Y-yoke suspenders. The drawstring is a weakness, in my opinion. I had a hard time keeping the pants from sliding down as I walked. In wind and rain these pants, coupled with the Torrentshell shell jacket keep me dry as I walk in the Oregon rain.

My first Patagonia product so I had high hopes. Purchased last year and had some light use. Finally wore them in some actual rain today and within 15 mins my crotch was uncomfortably soaked. Was not even doing any activity just standing. Basically useless as a rain pant given this experience. Fine for light mist I guess. Hopefully a one off. On an up side I contacted the Patagonia store and they said to return them for a refund or replacement. Hopefully just a defective pair. I will send them back for a replacement and report back but certainly disappointing as a first experience.
I purchased these pants and can confirm that they do fit large, I’m 6’0” and 190 lbs, average build, typically take a large but definitely a medium in these.Overall I’m a Patagonia purchaser and have several items from the brand but I think these are a bit dated from a material perspective. I will end up returning these and purchased a pair from OR, GORTEX PAC-light, although more expensive I found they have nicer material from a noise perspective, longer side zipper and a bit of stretch vs the Patagonia pants are noisy when you walk and I found the material and fit not as good from a mobility perspective, however the Patagonia pants do feel more durable. So some trade offs depending on what you are looking for.
Was excited when Patagonia went to 3 layer construction - more durable, more comfortable, more breathable. And at this price point you'll be hard pressed to find anything else in three layer.I'd call them mid weight - still quite packable but not ultralight and also not super heavy for extensive deep backcountry useBut again they aren't designed with either use in mind - just a good daily driver.Fit is good I'm 30-31 waist and went medium which is about perfect for layering and movement. Small would have felt restrictive I think. Easy on over boots with the 3/4 side zips. No waterproof zips but haven't had any issues with leakage with the flaps.I mostly avoid rain pants unless is a long day or rain or really coming down so these fit the bill without any ... MoreWas excited when Patagonia went to 3 layer construction - more durable, more comfortable, more breathable. Again 3 layer, to me, is always the way to go and this makes it easy without breaking the bank.
Have had these for a couple years and have used them infrequently over that time. But they're great for wet weather hiking and can work for biking in a pinch. Used recently on a bikepacking trip and got caught in the rain. I'd recommend using a strap of some kind to cinch in the ankle area by your drivetrain. They work really well to keep you dry! The material isn't the most breathable, which is both good and bad. It'll help keep you warm and you can use the vent zipper to moderate temps a bit. But you may have to reduce your exertion level to prevent getting sweaty (and risk getting cold in the rain). Fit is baggy, which makes layering nice and easy. I'm 5'10" 175lbs and the medium is great, still on the large side. Not a lot of frills, but if you're stuck in the ... MoreHave had these for a couple years and have used them infrequently over that time. These are great pants with awesome features. I bought them to go with the Torrentshell jacket I bought a few years back (which is still holding up great). I am severely miffed about the color, though. These "black" pants do not match my black jacket, which is still very black in color and has not faded. What Patagonia is now calling "black" is more of a midnight blue. Patagonia, please change the fabric color back to actual black or relabel the color in your product information.
I am enjoying my new Torrentshell waterproof pants. My wife and I walk daily in all weather conditions, with few exceptions, so we require protective clothing to block wind and rain.I have worn other waterproof pants in the past and found them ok as well, but the Torrentshell fit well over seasonal clothing, have an elasticized adjustable waist, a generous leg length with lower leg zippers and adjustable ankle snaps. The Torrentshell 3L pants also have 2 zippered hand pockets, that I find extremely useful, but are not supplied in most other waterproof pants. The Torrentshell 3L is simply a great waterproof pant !
If this is supposed to simply be a pair of overpants to keep you dry, then the pockets should allow me to access the pockets in the pants that Im wearing underneath. If these are meant to be actual pants, then it should have at least belt loopsAdditionally, its missing some very very simple niceties that other companys basic goretex pants have, like some loops on the bottom cuff to tie some cord to (that loop under your boots arch to keep the pant leg down so you dont need gaiters), pockets, and BELT LOOPS.Missing the cord loops for your boots and having an elastic cuff just results in your pants riding up. Its a lose-lose feature. Very not well thought out.If they want an elastic cuff with no cord loops, it should be an interior elastic cuff, like with most ... MoreIf this is supposed to simply be a pair of overpants to keep you dry, then the pockets should allow me to access the pockets in the pants that Im wearing underneath.
