Patagonia Quandary Mens Hiking Pants - Regular - Forge Grey - 40

Quandary Pants have always been 5 star for me - until the 2024 redesign. I had previously given them 3 stars based on what I felt was a terrible redesign on the side pocket (making it pretty useless, see my other review) and poor updates on the back pockets (making them harder to get things into and out of by adding flaps and switching sides of the zippered pocket). After wearing the redesigned pants for a few days I realized that they were also harder to get on and off. It was also impossible for me to relieve myself while standing up without unbuttoning the pants and sliding them down my hips. My older Quandary's have no such issue. The redesigned ones have a zipper which is 1 inch shorter than the original design! Please fix this in the next redesign Patagonia.

I have the previous version of this and they have held up wonderfully, and still maintain their water resistance, and dry super quick when they do get wet. This version’s material feels slightly more durable, and potentially just a tiny bit less breathable, but can’t say for sure. Other changes from previous version include the thigh pocket went from horizontal to vertical, which depending on how you use it might not make a difference. I personally liked horizontal, but vertical makes it easier to take out larger objects quickly, like a phone. Another great new feature is the ability to roll up the legs and then fasten them there with a loop and button, very clean and hidden both in use and when not using. Zippered back pocket got moved from left to right. Removal of pocket watch pocket, but adds a loop to attach keys or tiny carabiner.Am 6’1 165lbs, and 31 regular fits near perfect. Maybe a few mm of extra room in the crotch.Overall like all the changes, and like the feel of the new material. But also still love the old material, could see both coexisting as variations.Highly recommended.

I travel a lot for work and these pants are great at doing almost everything. If you’re traveling from a hot climate to cool or vice versa they work really well. They have nice air flow and aren’t too restrictive when it’s hot. They provide nice coverage when it’s cooler. I wouldn’t wear them in the dead of winter though.They’re really nice if you work somewhere that requires pants but it’s hot out. Comfortable and still business casual without looking like you just got off the trail but yet still very trail worthy.I’ll wear them on the plane, work (that goes from manual labor to business casual), golf (when the weather can’t make up its mind) and everyday life.Just bring these pants with you wherever you go and they’ll work.
