This Men’s Tres 3-in-1 Parka from Patagonia is ready for any activity, in any kind of weather. With three jacket options in one, this jacket can adapt to the changeable conditions of the day. Cold, wet and dreary days will be a breeze with the waterproof H2No Performance Standard 2L outer shell, made from 100% recycled polyester, evading water whilst remaining breathable and comfortable. The insulated inner jacket is filled with 700-fill reclaimed goose and duck down to keep you cosy when the weather has a bite to it. Combine the two jackets together for ultimate warmth on the harshest of days, or wear them separately when the conditions are slightly more forgiving. Both jackets’ shells are treated with a PFC-free durable water repellent to help repel moisture and also any dirt that might find its way onto the fabric. The outer jacket features a 2-way full zip with storm flap to keep the wind at bay and an adjustable hood that snaps on and off gives extra warmth when it’s needed. The collar is tall and stands up to keep your neck warm, but can also be laid flat to allow air flow when you need to cool down. The inner jacket has those all-important heat-trapping horizontal baffles to keep you heated in the cold and the hem adjusts with hidden cords so you can lock in that warmth. Zippered hand warmer pockets give plenty of space for essentials, or your hands if they need warming up, and are lined with brushed tricot for a soft touch. Inside, there is a zippered chest pocket for any items you want to keep closer to hand and secure.

Firstly, the jacket looks and feels good. The inner layer can be used as a separate jacket without a doubt and can handle on its own. The jacket looks good and practical in many ways. I've had a chance to wear it for a few months in the cold upstate NY weather. It does a good job on windy days where the gusts have been around 44 mph lately. As other reviewers have mentioned, the pocket design is a disaster in my opinion. I own a couple of other Patagonia jackets, but all those jackets are perfect, even their pocket designs are made for your hands. This jacket on the other hand was definitely made to carry items. But, that being said if there is a good sale, it's definitely worth it.TLDR: Jacket good, pockets BAD.

I purchased this jacket to replace my everyday winter jacket. I live in Toronto Canada, and it can get very cold, windy, icy and snowy quickly. I am 5'11, 165 lbs with an athletic build. So far, I have tested this jacket at -10C and it does a good job at blocking the wind and keeping me dry. The double-ended zipper is great. The pockets are great.Despite having a "regular" fit, this jacket feels tight around the chest and arms, especially if you have a hoodie on. The armpit holes in the down jacket does not have any give, so sliding your arms in and out of the jacket is a challenge. The arm sleeve length is about half an inch too short. I could size up, but I do not like baggy-looking jackets since I do have a slim build. I am also confused as to why Patagonia ... MoreI purchased this jacket to replace my everyday winter jacket. I am also confused as to why Patagonia didn't give the down jacket an 850-800 fill, rather it comes with a 700 down fill rate. I can definitely see myself replacing the build in a down jacket and swapping it out with a thicker down jacket. As a stand-alone down jacket, it is good for 7C - 0C temperatures.Overall, I am happy with the jacket, but it is not a great jacket for a true Canadian winter of -25C weather, which Toronto dips down to on a regular. 3-1 Tres is a great option for mild winters and gives you the flexibility to sustainably take care of each layer properly and only fix/replace the inner layer while keeping the outer shell longer.

I made this review in January-21 when I returned the item, but it was not published potentially due to a direct competitor reference. So, I removed the reference and am trying again:I bought this coat a year ago and returned after a few time wearing it. The problem was that the down-filling comes through the shell, which was quite disappointing for the price. In addition, although the jacket is highly stylish, I was disappointed with versatility as compared to another brand that I bought long time ago not available anymore.I can live with the versatility issue as this jacket has additional features that can make up what is missing in addition to being more stylish, but leaking of down-filling, was the deciding factor. I just wonder if it has been improved since then as I contemplate to order it again. Having said that I have just seen at least another review that brings up the issue of the inner jacket "losing a lot of its down and no longer providing the same insulation."
I hesitated on buying the jacket based on other reviewers noting the pocket issue. Perhaps it's because I am used to resting my hands in front-facing horizontal pockets from other types of jackets (such as wax jackets or shearling jackets), but the hand placement felt quite alright to me. It was comfortable, and the weighted flaps allow it to fully flap down, rather than bumping around by my hand.I also ordered one size larger than my typical size (my typical size is M, and I ordered a L), as this is a winter jacket and I aim to wear a thick sweater inside during extreme cold conditions, and the sizing and comfort was perfect.I haven't tested this jacket out in truly cold conditions yet (i.e. 20F or below, but am excited to.
Tl;dr All in all, it’s a fantastic jacket and combo for certain needs, but what stops it from being perfect are the hand warmer pockets and that I think it could maybe use another additional 2 inches in length. You might think this is a tad overpriced at $700 considering a Down + Torrentshell Jacket combo costs less, but in some cases specific it’s worth it.The inside down jacket is essentially the standard Patagonia Down Jacket and the 3-1 functionality is nice and intuitive. The real upgrade is on the rain shell layer when compared with the Torrentshell. The rain shell’s thigh length cut covers your pants pocket, which is great (and is why I initially went for this, as I don’t love rain jackets that end at the hip). But I still wish it was slightly longer, hoping Patagonia makes something like a a men’s rain overcoat or an equivalent to the Women’s Torrentshell Parka.Other rain shell notes:-The fit is a bit baggier/roomier for the 3-1 design, which I like because makes layering underneath much easier.-It’s a bit thinner than older iterations, which I like because that means it can be worn in all seasons.-The (easily removable) hood is much better at balancing coverage and visibility. I can't express appreciation for this fact enough. It's as though they found just the right spot to where your head doesn't get wet but your peripheral vision doesn't get compromised.-Unfortunately, like the Torrentshell, the cuffs of the sleeves tend to wet out in the rain. Otherwise excellent waterproofing.Main Flaw:The rain shell’s vertical handpockets with flaps (with zippers!) are wonderful for holding things, but not hands. Under rain a bit of water will trickle in if you put your hands in them, and for cold or wind the pockets are too thinly lined to preserve warmth (they’re labeled as hand warmer pockets, but fail to live up to that). This is really the biggest shortcoming of the jacket, and something other reviews have pointed out. It’s also confusing because the interior down jacket has adequate hand warmer pockets, but those can’t really be used when the jacket is zipped in. My hope is that the next iteration incorporates something like the old Topley’s pockets—vertical storage pockets and horizontal hand warmer pockets sort of built into that.Again, overall it’s a fantastic jacket, but that does make the few shortcomings stand out (especially because hand pockets are a big deal in cold or rain), and especially so at this price point.
Bought this because my old Patagonia parka velcro for pockets and closure at zipper had ripped and I was told 10 weeks for a warranty repair. So I bought this 3 in 1 because it was half off in store. I am 6’1” and 170 with wide shoulders. Large is a good fit.Definitely could tell the fill on this new parka is less than my old one. Took it to Telluride for and first day at 10000 ft was a white out with 30mph gusts and 20degrees. I had a compression long sleeve and a t shirt on and never got cold. On warmer days it was great being able to zip the shell off and just wear the puffer. Functional and comfortable is how I would describe the Tres. Definitely recommend.
This a great jacket, and I love the versatility of "3-in-1". That said, it really is a waterproof shell with a down-insulated jacket that is zippered in for warmth. I haven't had the opportunity to test it's waterproof-ness on a proper rainy day, but it handles melting snow perfectly. That said, this jacket falls short on the promise of warmth through all levels of cold.I bought this jacket after visiting in-store to get some feedback on what level of winter jacket I should buy for a Canadian Prairie winter. The staff recommended this jacket as appropriate for everything down to the bitter -40 Celsius we experience on a fairly regular basis in Canada. This jacket simply falls short of that promise. The staff recommended this jacket as appropriate for everything down to the bitter -40 Celsius we experience on a fairly regular basis in Canada. This jacket simply falls short of that promise. The staff told me that the heavier parkas that Patagonia sells are too much (i.e. Frozen Range) and that going higher than this jacket would not serve me well, even on the bitter cold days. The limit of this jacket is about -25 celsius. Beyond that, you will need an additional decently insulating layer to keep warm, such as an additional fleece jacket. That isn't necessarily a problem, but had I known the limits, I would've bought a higher-level jacket. One of the largest downfalls of the jacket is that the insulating layer is waist-length, while the waterproof shell layer is ~mid-thigh length (depending on your height). Evaluate your needs before buying this jacket. If you don't plan on walking around town in something colder than -25 celsius, this jacket will work wonders. If you don't mind adding another layer to your wardrobe when it does get very cold, this will work as well. Otherwise, you might want something more hefty.
My initial impression of the jacket was that I hated it, but I'm glad I kept it for a week and tried it on several more times because I came to like it a lot more, but it does have its quirks. The jacket initially seemed a bit large (I'm 5'10, 200 lbs, and ordered the Large after measuring my chest circumference in the sizing guide). I went to the local Patagonia store and tried on a Medium, as well as all the other winter jackets they had. The Medium turned out to be slightly too small, so I do think the chest sizing on the ordering guide is accurate. It also allows room for a bit of layering. The vertical pockets on the outer jacket is a weird design choice, and the only thing that still makes me question whether I like this jacket. The Medium turned out to be slightly too small, so I do think the chest sizing on the ordering guide is accurate. It also allows room for a bit of layering. The vertical pockets on the outer jacket is a weird design choice, and the only thing that still makes me question whether I like this jacket. It's extremely awkward to put your hands in if you intend to use them as 'hand warmer' pockets with the jacket zipped since it forces your arms into an unnatural position in front of your body. There's also not really any insulation in the outer shell pockets, so I doubt they're going to do much other hand protect your hands from wind. The pockets in the inner down jacket are much nicer and have a typical slanted side entry, but then they're inaccessible when it's zipped inside the outer shell. For my use case (commuting on public transit / walking around the city) I'll probably end up wearing this with the inner jacket unzipped from the outer shell, with the inner jacket zipped up and the outer jacket unzipped but layered over the inner jacket. And it's a lot less awkward putting your hands into the vertical pockets when the outer shell is unzipped. That's the only reason I ended up not returning this jacket. The material on the outer shell also has a bit of a design in it where it looks like pinstripes when viewed close-up (at least on the Navy color). It's not that noticeable from further than a few feet away, but it does give it a bit more of a formal appearance than I was expecting. The inner jacket has a bit of a sheen to it that I quite like and looks amazing in the navy color.Another oddity is that the inner jacket isn't the same length as the outer jacket, so the bottom 3-4 inches of the outer jacket isn't exactly insulated and does not do much other than offer wind and weather protection. You can see this in one of the product images on the website, so I realized this when purchasing it, but it's weird when wearing it since it feels a bit like having flaps at the bottom of your jacket. It comes across as form over function; however, it does give a bit of flexibility in that you can just use the inner jacket if you're not wanting a parka length coat for the occasion. All that said, it's an extremely nice jacket. The build quality is great, and I appreciate the use of snaps rather than Velcro on the wrists and flaps. I also appreciate Patagonia's use of Fair Trade certified factories and their commitment to the environment, and I was willing to pay a bit of a premium for that.
I saw this jacket years ago at a Patagonia store and wanted it then they just didn't have my size available (only XL). I was surprised it's still available. It looks really nice (simple but stylish looking), also feels like its made of good quality materials. The inner puffer jacket is very soft and warm in cold climate, it also doesn't leak a lot of feathers (my mountain hardware puffer always leaks feathers). The outer layer provides a water / wind resistant shell which is good for when it rains but it's not that cold outside so you can pick and choose what you need.I originally bought it in medium (I'm only 5'6") but the puffer jacket in my shoulder area it was a little tight fitting (if I sit in my car with my arms on the steering wheel it feels a little ... I took it to the patagonia store and exchanged it for a large which fits better. The horizontal pockets on the outer shell is a little strange especially when the jacket is zipped up, your hands rest more over your stomach and doesn't sit naturally. It's okay if you have it unzipped since it's more at your side. If they changed the pocket position of the outer shell to a more ergonomic angled pocket on the side this would be the perfect jacket. not a deal breaker for me. I still really like this jacket.
