The 800-fill-power down provides high-loft warmth in an ultrapackable midweight layer. The alpine helmet-compatible hood has a single-pull drawcord and high-loft draft collar. A center-front Vislon zipper is backed with an internal storm flap, and there are two handwarmer and two external pockets. Available in black, this hoody is a great choice for women who need a reliable and packable layer for their outdoor adventures.

I'm 120, 5.4. Size small fits great with room to layer under. Love the big hood and high neck. It's super light with the right amount of pockets. The only thing that takes away from the 5-star rating is the main zipper. I wish this had a 2-way zipper. It'd be super useful for belaying, or even just to sit down. Thinking of returning this and getting a competitor's jacket that's very similar, but with a 2-way zipper. What is the fill weight of the down? I didn't t see it listed on the site. Competitor's fill weight for size M is 7.5 grams.

The jacket is nice and warm and does not make you look as marshmallowy as other puffer jackets. It's definitely not as fit and tapered as the down sweater and has more of a boxy shape. However it is soft enough that it does fold in around my waist giving me a slight figure. The Fitz Roy also covers my bum slightly more than the down sweater. That little bit of extra length also makes it slightly less boxy, more of a rectangular shape vs a square. The small fit me better, but as a 5'10" woman the sleeves were a little short. Which was surprising for me because Patagonia is one of the only brands I can depend on to have consistent long sleeves. I exchanged it for the medium which definitely makes me look bigger and has visually puffier sleeves but at least it has the ... MoreThe jacket is nice and warm and does not make you look as marshmallowy as other puffer jackets. I bought both the down sweater and the Fitz Roy in the same plum color and it has been difficult justifying both. I almost have less use for the Fitz Roy because when it gets cold enough to use it I typically grab my Down With It Parka so that my legs get some coverage. But I adore this jacket. It feels like being wrapped in a down sleeping bag. I just need to find more uses for it.

It's *almost* too warm (but I run hot, so take that with a grain of salt). It's INCREDIBLY comfortable. Great fit. VERY LIGHT for its size and warmth. (Makes it a great multi-purpose coat for travel in the winter, too).Very happy to see some extended sizes offered. (The XL would probably fit, but I appreciate something that gives my hips more room to breath.)I have been wearing it around town, but fully expect it will be invaluable for cold-nights while desert camping, and hut/yurt trips.I can verify it properly sheds water in some light rain. The only small complaint I have is that I've already seen a couple feathers poking out some seams.

Comfortable. Very warm. Loose fitting. Thoughtful sleeve cuff design. Nice color contrasts. Live in northern Vermont with brutal winters and this became a great everyday jacket. Truly ideal for trailhead warmth before and after touring.
I purchased the Lagom blue which was a gorgeous deep marine blue. The material had a bit of a shine to it which I loved for being a bit different. Being a puffer, it wasn’t the most flattering on me - it added a bit of size to the upper shoulders. For the price I just didn’t think I would pull it from the closet enough to justify the purchase so I ended up returning it. It would probably be best in -5 to -15 and I’d probably grab a longer coat to wear in those temps anyway.
I have been waiting for the Fitz Roy to come in a color that I could fall in love with (Obsidian Plum) because I know this will be my go-to down jacket for a very long time. The fit on this is generous, different than the silhouette of the Down Sweater and Down With It--similar look to old-school puffers, but much better fit. It has plenty of room underneath for layering even for me who has a broad chest and always falls between sizes. The material is beefy, feels strong enough to sustain some wind and light drizzle, but also packable. Highlights are the broad, cozy collar, the amount of useful (and two lined) pockets, and the wide baffles that allow max loft for insulation. I like to layer when I ski in Oregon so will use this under my Triolet for cold, windy days ... MoreI have been waiting for the Fitz Roy to come in a color that I could fall in love with (Obsidian Plum) because I know this will be my go-to down jacket for a very long time. This jacket is absolutely amazing! My husband bought one last year and I got one at the beginning of this winter season. The jackets are incredibly warm, more of a parka than anything. It doesn’t usually get below zero where we live, but it I’ve never had my torso be cold while wearing it.My husband is a ski patroller and wears his for avalanche control mornings. It’s the first piece of gear he’d had that could truly keep him warm on snowy, windy mornings up on the ridges. Several other patrollers at the mountain he works at now have this jacket as well and it’s universally loved.I use mine for less technical applications, but I still absolutely love it. Our house is not accessible by road in winter, so I do a lot of early morning and late evening walking in the snow and this jacket makes all the difference in the world. It does a good job warming you up quickly after catching a chill as well (although, again, I have not tested it in sub zero conditions). It has an amazing amount of pockets and storage as well. There are 4 zip pockets on the front and a very large kangaroo pouch pocket on the inner left side. It will hold a large number of things with ease, though the fabric is quite thin, so I wouldn’t use it to carry anything too heavy.
This jacket is the bomb! Lightweight, compressible and amazingly warm. It is my go-to for layering under a shell for skiing in very cold temperatures. Fantastic pockets on the outside and a huge drop-in pocket inside. The generous sizing for a Patagonia small allows me to layer underneath for extra warmth. Unique cuff design is not bulky. Can fully zip over a neck gaiter.
So, I will say...I think the color I got is beautiful. I got the teal on teal and it's nice. What happened with the stuffing on this? I am just confused. I read in a review response that this has less filling because there is another coat that has more this year? Is the price reflected on that? There's virtually no stuffing on inner arms...I got this as a gift for my birthday (whoo) and it was my FIRST patagonia wear to ever have. I don't think I want to exchange because it was a gift...and while it's very cool that it has so many pockets and wraps tight around your head...I'm disappointed in the fill :( for the price.
This hoodie is a fantastic layer for dry, cold weather. The double-zip is perfect for putting on over a harness. I own the 2016 version. My husband is on his second of these coats. Unlike other down products, this coat doesnt have a lot of full feathers, just lofted down. There is huge room for improvement in the ripstop nylon chosen for this coat. My husband and I have both snagged the coat and absolutely *destroyed* it just doing normal everyday activities. Big thanks to Patagonia for standing by the product, which is why my husband has his second of this coat. For me, I will do the repair myself because I was able to capture most of the down and I have extensive sewing experience. To Patagonia: I bought a kit from thru-hiker for a down coat in 2003. I wore that product about 6 months out of the year for 13 years for rock climbing, hiking and daily life. That down coat was incredibly snag-resistant and the down was *at least* as good as yours if not better. I will be taking that coat out of storage while I repair yours. You should look into thru-hikers sourcing of ripstop nylon, it is a far superior product in ability to slip instead of catch and rip.
