I've had the fortune of exisiting on this planet for over 25 years, and I seriously have to say this is one of the most durable jackets I've ever owned. I was honestly hesitant to buy it at first because of how lightweight + on the thinner side it is...but I've come to learn that it can take a legit beating. I slid/rolled down a rather rocky slope the other day (it genuinely felt like I was a protein ball being tossed around in a bowl of very sharp desiccated coconut), and despite me coming out more bruised than a 2 week old banana...the Houdini jacket was as good as new!?In terms of performance, it's pretty good at blocking out the wind and can shield you from a bit of rain. I'd recommend sizing up if you intend on wearing multiple layers underneath it. I'd recommend sizing up if you intend on wearing multiple layers underneath it. I usually wear a size small, but sized up to a M so that I could wear a down jacket and/or a hoodie underneath it. The jacket also has drawcords at the base/hem so you can always adjust the "seal" depending on how many layers you're wearing. Also the jacket has only one pocket which is in the chest area, which CAN fit a small wallet or keys but I'd recommend not putting anything heavy there because it'll feel a bit awkward. Overall it's a pretty versatile jacket which you can use in warm or cold condition. I highly recommend it :)

Different fit from regular Houdini

I'm 5'1", usually a size S in most non-Patagonia clothes. I have a 2020(?) Houdini in M (close fit when layering with a Smartwool 250 long-sleeve for winter running in the northeast). I wanted something a little looser for more versatility - Tried this in M and L and am keeping the M.Compared to the regular Houdini, this is definitely roomier in the chest area and maybe just slightly looser-fitting in the stomach area. Length of the jacket is longer and sleeves are longer. Proportions-wise, the regular Houdini fits me better (pretty perfect in terms of sleeve and torso length - I have slightly long arms for my height). I'm keeping the regular Houdini b/c I like the closer fit for running and even though sweat does bead up inside, it does a great job blocking winter ... MoreI'm 5'1", usually a size S in most non-Patagonia clothes. I'm also keeping the Air since it has more room for looser-fitting street wear and layering, and I like the option of extra breathability in less severe weather conditions. I'm also ecstatic I managed to snag the Tate green colorway from a store in Canada, which Patagonia seemed to sell out of really quickly...on discount, too!

I am in love with this jacket. So much that I bought a second in another color. The fit is perfect. The fabric is wonderful. So much nicer than the regular Houdini. It is quiet and not crinkly noisy fabric. For there not being much to it, it is surprisingly warm on chilly mornings. I have worn it biking, and it does a great job of cutting the wind. The only thing I don't love is that it doesn't have hand pockets. I find myself always reaching for hand pockets. I understand the desire to keep it super lightweight, but I think some pockets would be a nice feature and worth another ounce or two of weight. All in all I love these jackets so much and have been living in them this summer. Please make a purple one!

Great for windy, wet workouts
8 December 2022

Ive been putting the Houdini Air to the test with the wet and windy Western New York weather. Its lightweight and does not obstruct movement in anyway. I did a 5 mile trail run in wind and drizzle and the water beaded up on the jacket but didnt soak through. It was 40 degrees and a mid layer with the Houdini Air was a perfect combo. The breathability of the jacket was awesome, I never felt swampy. Its my new go to for runs, biking and hiking. Its packability and versatility make this my new go to jacket.

Great lightweight jacket
5 August 2022

This is exactly the right weight for my morning trail walks with the dog this summer, temps in the 60s. It is breathable with a little stretch to it. I am 5ft 3.5in tall, 127 pounds, and normally wear a small and a petite.I am also a 34D so tops are iffy. I ordered a medium based on reviews that it runs small. This fits perfectly except the arms are a little long on me, but I cuff them and its not an issue. The one thing missing is side pockets. I realize this would make it less packable but I prefer the pockets. But I still love it! Also have brought it on two trips so far and it is great for travel.

Houdini Air sizing is a problem
8 April 2023

Let me start by saying I have the Houdini (size S) for biking and I like it for the temps when things cool down in the late summer and early fall in Michigan. I ordered a S when buying the Houdini Air. The jacket is beautiful. The sizing is unfortunately different than my Houdini. The Air was too small. So I drove an hour to the REI store to return the Air and see if a M would fit. There were no Airs to try on. When I complained about the sizing I was met with understanding by sales persons who said that Patagonia sizing is not consistent. It is apparently a well known problem? Size up for this one.

I should have bought this a long time ago

This jacket is one of the items that I always carry with me when I’m hiking, running trails or biking. I’ve used it multiple times since I bought it and it’s easy to carry, very light, very efficient to keep the chill away. This is not a rain jacket, but I find it does a great job in light rain too. It’s a bit fitted, so that it doesn’t flap in the wind. I even used it for outside concerts this summer to keep warm. The lowest temperature I used it in was 10 degrees Celsius, with only a t-shirt underneath and it worked great. Really a staple in my wardrobe.

I wanted a jacket, not a shell
4 November 2022

I was very disappointed in this "jacket." I wanted something with a lining for walking in winter that is water resistant. this one doesn't even have pockets! I am still wearing an old Patagonia jacket with lots of pockets and is waterproof. I love it but the interior is getting shreddy. I chatted for a long time with a customer service person and thought she understood what I wanted. This shell cost over $170!!! I'm very disappointed but don't have the energy or time to return it. Will never order from Patagonia again.

The BEST jacket for running and cycling
28 April 2022

Had this jacket for a year now, and it is my absolute favourite jacket for running and cycling when it’s misty or drizzle. It is so breathable and thin it feels like you don’t even have a jacket on. It feels nice against the skin, I can wear it with a tank top or T shirt just to keep the chill off when there is some rain while being really active. It’s very good as a windbreaker. It’s not designed to be waterproof, and that’s why I bought it, it’s That ideal balance of breathable but some water protection and wind protection. It packs down tiny into the chest pocket to fit in a belt bag or clip to the bike. I was worried it would tear quickly, as it feels and looks tissue paper thin. But it is not fragile ! it’s survived mtb all year round, winds up shoved in the back or the truck, tramped on by kids, and it keeps going. I sized up, I’m always a small in Patagonia and went with the medium and no regrets, it’s not baggy but has room in the shoulder. Oh and the hood is fantastic under a bike helmet, has a toggle at the back to angle the hood away from your vision. The cuffs are baggy, which I like cause I can easily slide it up to check my garmin while moving, but that could be be a downside for some. 10/10 would recommend this jacket

Worthless. Ultra thin piece of junk.
28 December 2022

This jacket is one of the cheapest feeling jackets I have ever seen. It is paper thin and does not feel like it would provide any protection from any type of weather. A tshirt would be more protective than this jacket. I am returning the jacket. The company should be ashamed for charging $180 for this seemingly worthless piece of ultra thin material. As to the fit, the XL is approximately the equivalent of a medium size of any other jacket brand. I was extremely disappointed when I opened this and I am actually mad that I spent $180 on such an incredibly useless item. I cannot overstate how thin and worthless this jacket feels. I have jackets that cost $20 that are exponentially better quality and more protective than this jacket.
