This case is obviously very well-constructed and strong. Every part of it seems sturdy, from the locks to the case itself to the handles and wheels. There is plenty of padding on the inside, too. The only reason I did not give it a 5 out of 5 stars is, the padded was a little limited on how I could customize it. I use this for professional photography lights, and the depth was a little "pre-determined" vs. being completely customizable. It still works for what I want. I just would have wanted more control of the inside. The instructions say you can glue pieces together for a more customizable fit. With other pick-and-pluck type cases, the customizable pieces were smaller in cut options, which made it more customizable for perfect fits. This pelican case was the perfect size to safely transport our son’s tenor sax without worry of it being damaged in any way. We used it to ship his vintage sax across the country for refurbishment and it made it to its destination with no problem! Pelican cases are virtually indestructible and you would be hard pressed to find a better transport container for almost anything! We used an electric carving knife to precisely cut out the pattern for his sax after we traced its outline on the foam. Came out much nicer than removing the foam cubes by hand!

I bought this to transport my Sky-Watcher EQ6R-Pro which is the right size for it. The original foam can be cut on the edges by a few inches to fit it perfectly. This would be ideal and more sturdy but still soft compared to the foam that comes with the Pelican. I suggest purchasing the case without the stock foam and reuse EQ6R-Pro packing foam. This thing is much more expensive than the Home Depot Husky Job Box but it is not so wide and does not take up more space in the vehicle when transporting you gear.

I purchased this case/foam combo because of my past positive experience with Pelican products. My plan was to use this case for All in One transport for extended shoots. The case itself is great quality and what I needed. However, for reasons I don't understand, the foam insert set has deviated from the usual Pelican 1/2 inch square pick and pluck foam to 5/8 x 5/8 square inch foam blocks. In over 20 years, I have always been able to plan, configure and prep these cases in just a few minutes. These larger blocks do not allow the flexibility and security of the 1/2 inch ones. Plus, working up the case layout took three times as long. The larger blocks mean larger gaps when you need to oversize a position and too-tight fits when you need to undersize. What appears to be a small change is a BIG pain. Pelican needs to go back to the 1/2 inch foam blocks for this product. Also, the bottom-most foam layer is at least 2 inches shorter than the length of the case. So, four stars for a product that could easily have been five.
I bought this for my Celestron 8SE telescope, as the actual case Nexstar was selling was around $500. I figured this would be cheaper doing it myself, and this seemed more durable for the cost. The case comes with solid foam which you have to pull out according to what shape you want. The foam comes in pre-cut little squares which you can remove just using your hands. Made a bit of a mess as you can see from my picture, but it saved me a ton of money having to buy a case that was specifically made for the scope. I am very pleased with the results.
I bought the pelican 1650 as a way of transporting my sensitive camera equipment to and from video shoots and, so far, I'm completely satisfied. The first thing I noticed was how big it is. I looked at the dimensions on the website, measured it out on my floor and placed things at each corner to see how big the case was going to be. All of my gear fit in that area, so I got it. When the case came, though, it somehow just seemed WAY bigger than what I measured out. I was able to fit all of my gear on only one half of the case. There are two layers, too, so you can fit twice as much as you might think. This case comes with the pick n' pluck foam, which I didn't want at first, but I'm glad it did, because it is really easy to customize. A pocket knife does help to make nice cuts. I haven't had it very long, but my gear seems very safe. I'm confident that everything will be unscathed if I drop the case during transport. It looks really cool too.
I wanted a solid watertight rolling case for the majority of my camera gear (which is not too extensive - two bodies, various lenses and I also wanted to have my flashes and one Einstein 640 all in one place). This case is big. (One thing I should mention though is the first case I ordered, one of the catches was completely broken off - B&H quickly replaced the case with a new one. This could have been a manufacturing flaw, but as Pelican has a lifetime guarantee I guess it is not a big problem). I ordered the case with the foam and with hindsight I think it would have been better to pay the extra and go with the padded dividers, as laying out your gear and using the pick & pluck foam is somewhat time consuming, you are also then stuck with this configuration. ... MoreI wanted a solid watertight rolling case for the majority of my camera gear (which is not too extensive - two bodies, various lenses and I also wanted to have my flashes and one Einstein 640 all in one place). Weight - the case is about 25lbs empty, so going forward I may regret trying to pack as much gear into it due to the weight, but time will tell if this becomes more of a problem than a benefit - something to consider. Overall I don't think you could buy a tougher, more protective case. Aesthetically, it's not going to win any awards, but I think most people buy Pelican products for function over form. I would definitely recommend it, but seriously consider the padded dividers over the foam.
I bought this case to serve as my primary luggage for travel. My old soft luggage never fared well in Airports. For around the same price as other rolling luggage in the same size range, I figured, Why not just buy the indestructible one? The case is bigger and heavier than I expected, but that's entirely my fault. The weight and dimensions are clearly listed online and they are accurate. Most airlines won't consider it oversized, but it will be easy to go over the weight limit, as the case already weighs 24 pounds empty. As far as build quality, it's just what you would expect from Pelican. The wheels have endured impacts and very rough, pothole riddled New England sidewalks. The latches are very secure. I've used Pelican Cases for years and knew they are awesome cases. When the company I am now working for started purchasing equipment for the video department, I knew I needed a Pelican Case to store, protect and carry all of the expensive video gear. There was a BHPhoto black Friday sale that knocked about $50 off the list price so we went for it. It wasn't the exact dimensions were looking at, but at the price range it was a good deal and the spec weren't far off from what we initially wanted. Overall its a great case and will make further Pelican purchases in the future.
We use the Pelican Cases from Zoro to transport our Career Fair supplies. Purchasing from Zoro helped us to get exactly what we needed to get the job done without the waste that other companies overlook. Their customer service is great and their turnaround on products is the BEST!
