It also isn't considered oversized by any airline I've flown with (Delta, United, and Continental.) This saves me $200 every round trip in baggage fees. The protection of the case doesn't seem to be compromised in the weight savings, and this case has literally been around the country with me packed all the way to 47lbs. Countless flights, car rides, and slams to the ground without any issues to the contents or the case itself. I accidentally ran this thing over with my car last week and THOUGHT I had broken a latch, but it worked just fine and I've used it 3 times since then. For a video journalist, the Pelican 1615 Air is a great piece of equipment. The case makes it easy to store my equipment, while keeping me mobile enough to accept last-minute, on-the-run assignments. Each case is a self-contained unit of equipment that makes it easier for me to do my job.

Instead of lugging 5 separate cases for the flash heads, I wanted to consolidate them into one case.I love the yellow padding since it's easier to find black electronic gear. If you have at least 5 strobes of similar size, this can fit all the strobes and the included accessories with room to spare. I can carry the case, but the wheels really help. If you make money on your gigs, this is worth the investment.

I'm not sure why Pelican did this and if they intend to make an air case in the exact same size as the 2950. But should already know this before buying. The good is that this case is 6 lbs lighter than the im2950, which means you can fit a few more items or just save your back. This case is as solid as all other Pelicans and probably more solid than the im series cases. Pelican also added a business card slot on the outside which is a nice touch. I am a little worried that this slot will pop off during rough travel. The bad: My only beef with this case is the popup handles. It's super flimsy and I can see it breaking on me. The TrekPak system is truly innovative. It works great and is easy to configure. The case is rock solid. HOWEVER, FOR $500+ YOU WOULD THINK THE MANUFACTURER WOULD PROVIDE ENOUGH DIVIDERS!!!!!! WRONG!!! AFTER SPENDING $500, I HAD TO DROP ANOTHER $70 TO BUY MORE DIVIDERS TO COMPLETE MY CONFIGURATION. KIND OF BUSH LEAGUE. IF YOU CHARGE A PREMIUM PRICE, PROVIDE A PREMIUM PRODUCT. I have bought many cases in my day and never experienced this with other manufactures. I like the bag, but don't appreciate being taken for granted. Will have to think twice before buying more.
I have many different models of Pelican cases including the 1650 (close comparison) and the 1615 air seems just as strong. It’s much lighter and fit my needs as I’m always checking filming equipment at the airport in these cases. A case that’s 40% lighter means I can pack more in one case without going over the 50lb/70lb/95lb threathholds on Delta.The lid feels thinner to touch when opening but it uses the exact same (very secure) clips as the non-air cases and when it’s latched shut I can stand and jump on the case with no worry about the gear inside or better yet, I know that TSA can’t destroy it in transit.The handle retracts into the case stealing a little bit of it’s cargo space but that smooth backside is nice when we’re loading 20 cases into a rental ... MoreI have many different models of Pelican cases including the 1650 (close comparison) and the 1615 air seems just as strong. I bought this case thinking it would be strong enough to put my displays in to ship around the country but I was wrong. I've used this case maybe 10 times and had it loaded with maybe 50 pounds of material and I just see a giant break and crack next to one of the wheel assemblies. The warranty department won't do a thing because they said they test all their products and that damage doesn't fall under their warranty even though they advertise crush proof on their listings. The case is definitely lighter but its less than half of the protection and thickness of their normal cases. Hope this saves someone from this expensive headache.
I've lost count of how many Pelican cases are carrying my gear. Then Pelican changed the game again with their Pelican Air line of cases. Significantly lighter and this is especially helpful when you're flying with gear and trying to keep it under 50 Lb. The build quality, strength and features seem to be identical to the regular, heavier cases. The new latches (which seem to be copied from Pelican's Storm cases line) are excellent. Pricey, yes... but worth every cent.
This is deep and holds all three of my dslrs and lenses. I also purchased a lid organizer that completes the project. Not nearly as heavy as the original pelican cases.

The videos out there show this case being thrown on the top of the land rover and heading out through the African bush. That was exactly what I was looking for. I am thoroughly impressed and hope to buy a second one before the end of the year.
