Souverän - A world-famous classic. The Souverän Silver-White series expands Pelikan's standard range with a new model in the popular size 405. The production of the Souverän sleeve is subject to an elaborate process. The silver and white striped barrel is made out of cotton based on a formula developed specially for Pelikan. It takes month until the block providing the stripes is finished, whereupon the tailor-made plating is curved and cut into a contour using a natural diamond. The bright silver and white shades of this series underscore the elegant interpretation of the timeless classic Souverän. The palladium-plated double rings on the high-grade resin cap and barrel are fitted with the utmost precision, creating an almost seamless transition between the materials before the pen is polished until it reaches a brilliant luster. The slightly springy typical Pelikan beak clip gives this high-quality writing instrument its unmistakable design. The Pelikan Souveran M405 Fountain Pen Silver/White with piston filling mechanism provides a 14-carat completely rhodium plated gold nib.

The M405 is the smallest and lightest of the Souverän line, but it has all of the qualities of the other Souverän pens. The M405 is beautiful, with the finish of cap, barrel and nib up to Pelikan's extremely high standards. The pen posts securely, and it feels much longer when posted, almost as long as a posted M600/605. It is, however, lighter and slimmer than the M600/605. The medium nib is quite wet, and a purchaser should consider a fine nib for many routine writing purposes. But the nib writes smoothly and handles the ink flow dependably.

A little on the small side but it fits in the pocket well. Starts writing immediately after sitting for a long weekend. What I dont like is that the barrel is just a bit wider than the piston control knob. Kind of feel they should have matched these up better. If it wasnt for that I'd give it 5 starsI've only used Pelikan 4001 ink. But writes smooth with perfect feedback. Extra fine is more like a fine.

I like this pen very much. It is not large nor heavy, but it’s build is solid and the nib writes very smoothly. In particular, it does a very nice job of naturally varying line widths like a miniture calligraphy pen. It is subtle, but quite nice.

Awesome!

Beautiful pen, smooth writer. Just as you’d expect from a Pelikan. I have several m200s and m400s, most of them Medium nibs, so I got this pen with a Fine nib, and I think it’s absolutely perfect. Still wet, but fine enough that I can write small without a problem. One thing to note, the material on the body seems like it may be prone to staining. Got some blue ink on the barrel while filling the pen (Troublemaker Inks Abalone) and it didn’t wash off simply with water, as it would with most other pens. I had to wash it with Dawn and even then there is still a small blue stain. So please note if you do get this pen, be mindful as you fill it, as to avoid the hassle of stain removal.

Beautiful pen
10 January 2021

I already own a pelikan m600, my favourite pen. I bought this for my organiser, slightly smaller and fine nib for the thinner lines. The pen looks stunning, great quality apart from the nib which felt very scratchy and irritating to use. I managed to fix it my self by polishing it with micro mesh. Writes fine now, but at this price I don’t expect to have to fix quality control issues myself, it should be just perfect out of the box.

Flimsy Feel
8 February 2021

Pen feels too light in comparison to my other Pelikan pens which makes it seem cheap. Plus, the nib is slightly scratchy. Pelikan needs to make this pen feel more substantial. Unfortunately, it will not be my go to pen and seems overpriced for what it is.

The M 405 Stresemann is a beautiful pen. I was quite surprised to get a white one as I thought I had ordered a black one!The nib is smooth, writes beautifully. I think it is best suited for someone who likes a smaller diameter nib section.

This is a stunning looking writing instrument; classic Pelikan lines, with a bright, milky-white cap, section, & piston turning knob. The whole, has a sleek elegant finish, perfectly accented with silvered clip, cap ferrule, & rings along the body of the pen. I really cannot get over those stripes on the barrel - they're exquisite !! The entire nib is plated in Rhodium over the 14K (EF) gold, & it writes very smoothly, with just a hint of feedback (which is nice). It feels solid in the hand, is well balanced when posted (for me); I imagine you may be able to write with same, unposted; not the largest of pens - but it is true what they say - small is beautiful. The Pelikan with single chick, as ever, present - the sand-blasted surround of that emblem, so well done; ... MoreThis is a stunning looking writing instrument; classic Pelikan lines, with a bright, milky-white cap, section, & piston turning knob. Of course, the Cellulose Acetate body & cap make this incredibly lightweight, & with just over half a turn of the cap, it separates nicely from the barrel. The nib itself, not overly ornate, but consistent with the higher end Pelikan (Souveran) range. In truth, I cannot fault this latest issue - as with all from this fine pen manufacturer, quality is indeed the watchword.
