Pentax Up 8x21 Binoculars - Black
The compact and lightweight black 8x21 U-Series UP Binoculars combine aspherical optical elements and BAK4 Porro prisms to deliver edge-to-edge image sharpness with a 50° angle of view. The optical elements are also fully multicoated to provide a high transmission of light. With an 8x magnification and 21mm objectives, you obtain a notable magnification, insignificant image jitter due to unsteady hands, and a compact form factor. You can easily spot your targets with a wide 6.2° angular field of view and quickly bring them into focus with a center focus wheel. In addition to observing distant scenes, birds and game, the minimum focus of 9.2' allows you to study in detail close objects like animal footprints, marks or landscape features. The binoculars also feature a 2.6mm exit pupil, a 13mm eye relief, an interpupillary and a diopter adjustments. The binoculars are very compact, lightweight, and features a single piece frame that houses objectives, which allows for a synchronized interpupillary adjustment. To accommodate glass wearers, the binoculars offer sliding rubber eyecups. Also included are a carrying case, a neck strap, and eyepiece covers.

I gave my wife the older version of this Pentax a few years ago, and we both really liked it. We are planning a vacation to Alaska and rather than bring my much heavier 10x 50's or 7x 35's, since I liked hers, I purchased the updated version with the diopter adjustment to the right barrel. B&H delivered quickly, even though I ordered at Passover time when they were closed. As promised, they processed my order when they re-opened and I had in a few days. The UP binoculars were clear right to the edge of the lenses, light & comfortable in the hands, AND...they are surprisingly bright. Very little shake with is design. Very happy camper here. Thanks B&H

I was between 10x and 8x on a budget set of binoculars. I had a set of 10x25mm that were in a similar price range, but the smaller magnification had a clearer image because the lower mag is easier to focus with. The compact size makes this easy to take around the city, to games, and on hikes. Great little carrying case and strap. The lenses are high quality. I spent about 45 minutes in the store trying 5 different binoculars, and settled on these for the value--the lenses are so clear and the whole case seems very sturdy compared to others that I tried.

I almost went for a larger pair of Pentax (I basically knew I would buy a Pentax based on my price range of under $100.00) but so glad I went in to the store where Robert at the binocular counter showed me these after I asked for the larger Pentax and an Olympus. These 8x21 are very good for eye glass wearers and are comfortable to hold and give a very good image. Took them to a concert already and they worked very well, including no noticeable eye fatigue. I am sure they will work for casual bird watching as well. If you are looking for a small compact pair of high quality binoculars, these are an excellent value. The one drawback is the carrying case they come in. I found it much too tight a fit and so will improvise with a slightly larger padded case. I purchased these binoculars several years ago while I was in the store upon the salesman's recommendation. Great clarity and really packs a punch for their size. I wanted a pair that I wouldn't hesitate to bring with me when traveling because of size and weight. Every time I let a friend take a peek with them they always say the same thing, how much were these? I'm getting a pair, too! I almost never take my bigger set when traveling because of their size. Was so glad I had them on my recent cruise to Alaska, observing grizzlies from a distance and bald eagles. Popped them right in my Fanny sack. Buy these, you won't be sorry!
Was buying these as a gift for a friend and liked them so much in the store I had to get myself a pair as well. Though they're a bit big to fit in my pocket, they're small enough that they're easy to throw in a bag. I am very impressed with the clarity of the image through the lenses.
I bought the first pair as pocket binos for my birder adult son, but when I saw how solid they were and easy to use I got a second pair for my 5 year old budding birder grandson. They fit his hands perfectly, nice and light yet sturdy, and not too wide at all for his eyes. He'll use them for years. Also, minimum focus length seems less than the stayed 9 ft, so that's an unexpected benefit.
We really like these binoculars. Bought a second pair a couple of days ago. Wonderful for the theater or the opera. Light but well build. We purchased a second one. Happy that the quality didn't change since years !
I love these binoculars! I bought them for my first ever birding excursion on a shady forest trail and the visibility was great. I compared them with higher priced models (Nikon and Bushnell) in the store and these were by far the brightest despite being only 8x21. They are very light which is important to me as I'm also lugging around a very heavy camera. I have already recommended it to a friend who is also looking to buy beginner binoculars. I would definitely buy them again.
They're compact and while not the most compact, they're probably the smallest porro prism binoculars you can buy. Great image quality, a lot better than I was expecting for 21mm. One advantage is that as they don't really fold up, they're always ready. They look a bit unusual, but I think this adds to them looking unique and they handle as well as any others I've used. I was a bit unsure whether to buy them as there's very few reviews online, but I'm really happy with them and I'm sure you will be too.
