Pentel P205 Mechanical Pencil 0.5mm with Leads

A classic (now in green!). This pencil's design is like 35 years older than me, and not too much about the design has even changed.I write stuff for school, and I don't draw unless I have to. I believe the lead that comes preloaded in most of these are Pentel Super Hi-Polymer in HB, which is a pretty controlled/less smooth lead than most of the more premium ones. The CLICKING MECHANISM. THE PRICE. It's near perfection.4 stars in the grand scheme of mechanical pencils, but 5 stars for the price and versatility it provides. I think it's the type of industry standard every stationery fan should try at least once, to use as a foundation for figuring out what they like in a no-frills mechanical pencil. Seriously.PROS+ Inexpensive+ Despite its weight and price, does not feel cheaply built—the plastic and metal components are quality (and metal is used in all of the correct parts)+ Tip seems pretty impossible to accidentally bend (unlike another brand of drafting pencils…)+ Satisfying and precise Pentel click mechanism+ The grip feels grippy and comfortable enough for most moderate usage+ Removable metal clip+ Due to the neutral light weight and taper, it feels very natural to hold the pencil far back on the barrel. Also, the clip seems evasive enough to not get in the way much when doing this+ Capped eraser of pretty good sizeCONS (nitpicks)− Pencil rattles a bit when shaking it or writing quickly (I think it's the eraser/eraser cap… however, most pencils rattle, especially with lead inside)− Tip has fallen off like twice in a year of having the pencil (possibly due to not tightening it securely enough)− Metal clip might slightly wear away the plastic it sits on if you slide it off too much or incorrectly. My clip is now easier to move around than normal− Eraser was difficult to feed up the metal piece after use. A Retired Draftsman Loves His Pencils

I have used the Sharp line of mechanical pencils since the 1980's when I was a mechanical draftsman. The quality of the Sharp line has always been top-notch. I used them for object lines, dimension lines, and lettering. They last forever and are an excellent value. Now I am retired but I still enjoy my pencils and pens. Pentel makes the finest of both. Ordering was very easy on the Pentel website, prices are good, and delivery was very fast. Overall, an excellent experience.

Best General Use Pencil Available

I've used Pentel 0.9mm mechanical pencils for years because they are the ones that do what I need them to do. They produce a legible print that is not too light, not too fine and not too broad. They stand up to my daily use and perform like I expect them to. I typically only have to buy new ones when Iose my old one. Replacement leads and erasers are readily available so that these can be used for years if not lost or broken. The 0.9mm lead is strong enough to the extra pressure that I often use when writing. Overall, this is my top choice for a mechanical pencil at both work and at home.

Excellent, reliable quality.

This sturdy product has been sold for more than 20 years. Still of the same excellent quality, still the same blue color, and still made in Japan. Leads(graphite) of a variety of softnesses can be bought for use with it. It’s perfect for accounting or financial work where you want a sharp point in seconds. I wish more products that we buy held up like this outstanding product.

Great Beginning Draft Pencil - needs some weight though

I bought this to use in my Perspective Drawing class, it's extremely helpful for thin, light, and consistent lines. I love the different color too, it helps me keep my different colored graphite straight. My two draw backs that I would have liked to see are a better base grip and heavier pencil weight. It's super light and I would have liked it to be a bit heavier so I could drag the pencil across the paper and not get sketchy wobbly lines that come with it being light.

I bought the .5 metallic Blue/Red/Green single pack. I own the .5 regular black version of this mechanical pencil that I've used for 10+ years so I knew what I was getting into.. It's still one of my favorite mechanical pencils to use til this day but that being said there's a few differences. The metallic shine is really apparent so for anyone interested in the color you can check out the pictures. It's pretty vibrant and shiny but not overbearing. I mainly bought the Blue/Red/Green pack so I could add matching color lead to quickly be able to differentiate the colors when drawing. Doing that may be a minor thing to some but it's helpful not getting them mixed up. The metallic pencils feels very slightly lighter which I think is a minus because The pencil is already slim so a little more weight to them makes it feel sturdier, but some may like the slighter lighter feel. It could be the fact that the older model's tip that I have is just looser because it's old but the newer metallic ones' metal tip feels tighter when twisted in. Though it should be noted that the tip being loose hasn't ever been a problem in the past though. One improvement I think is that clicking for the lead is bit looser so you could get lead a bit quicker. One drawback is that the metal cover for the eraser is looser, which I don't think is a good thing because those are very easy to lose and taking them off was never a problem. Another change but it's just cosmetic is that the stenciling on the clip is not as deep but isn't a huge deal. Pros: -Nice metallic colors -Sturdy -Same slim feel as the other models Cons: -On the slightly expensive side -Small and short eraser -No retractable tip -Eraser cover slightly loose Final thoughts are that overall it feels the same as the old model which is sturdy, has a nice slim feel to it for those who prefer a slimmer build rather than bulky, and will leave you just as satisfied as with the other models in the same line. It's on the more expensive side for a mechanical pencil but if you've bought any other versions of this line before you already know what you're getting yourself into. Despite all the negatives I still really love this line even with the flaws because drawing with it for me just feels right in my hand. There could be improvements made to it but I can live with the way it is.

My most recent favorite pencils

I'm enjoying these pencils when it comes to drawing and sketching! I've bought 2 P207s at Target and 2 P205s at my campus store. I can use the pencil for light sketches and bold marks. They do fit into my small pencil pouch, and they don't cause a mess since I can just push the lead out and all I need to buy is lead refills. Although, I'm keen to buy more in different colors to build up my mechanical pencil collection!

Pentel P207 Mechanical Pencil with Eraser Steel-lined Sleeve with 6 x HB 0.7mm Lead Ref P207

I had a problem with the smaller lead sizes breaking, so I bought these pencils. Theyre sooo much better. Theyre slightly heavier than most pencils, but to me thats a good thing. Of course, when I say slightly, I mean slightly. The twistup eraser is a pretty neat feature if you dont need it all the time. I quit using the erasers in pencils and just have a separate eraser, so its a little useless to me. I like the pencils. They seem durable and are of good quality. My only complaint when I throw them into the bottom of my bag, they pick up every little piece of dustdirt on the finger pads. Maybe once Ive used them some more they wont do that.

THIN, SLEEK, SLIDES INTO TIGHT PENCIL-LOOP-CARRIER

This was actually my second choice. I had purchased a set of Papermate mech. pencils. Unbelievably, Papermate does NOT make, sell, offer, replacement erasers! I returned it to my local OD store and told the manager. I am happy with the Pentel, its function, it fits in tight-fabric-pencil-loops that come with portable, personal calendars (Daytimers), and does NOT allow the lead to slide back into the barrel when pressing down. Better "Grip."

The Rover Safety Bicycle of Mechanical Pencils

This pencil has been practically unchanged for decades. It has all the requirements for a comfortable, practical, unfussy, reliable propelling pencil. It may have debuted as a 0.5 mm technical pencil but has become available in recent times in more useful sizes; the 0.9mm lead size makes it more practical for writing and sketching.Unless you want a pencil that looks like a surgical instrument, this one should fill all your requirements. I hope it continues to be available for a long time yet.
