Petkit Pura x Automated Self Clean Cat Litter Box

So far our rescue org has bought 4. That means we have many cats using them throughout the day. It will put it to the test. The overall system works well. You can set how quickly it cleans up after your cats leave the unit. Each unit syncs to their app to control many features including how often it cleans during the day. Compared to our original litter robot (a few years ago) this is much more advanced. We like that it will not clean if a cat approaches and this is important so the cat isn’t scared by it turning if they’re standing in front of it about to jump in. The only issue we see so far is the opening is small and a few cats hate enclosed litter boxes- they don’t like walking into the box so we gave them a little more time to get used to the units leaving the older boxes out and using cat attract litter. The unit itself is flimsy plastic which I was surprised (litter robot is not this flimsy) if there are a few poops in the bottom drawer you can still smell it a bit more than we did with our robot. Likely due to the flimsy plastic. Overall it is a game changer in a multiple cat household and so far I like it better than our robot. I just hope it lasts!

Amazing PETKIT PURRA

I have now bought x 2 of these Self cleaning Cat Litter Boxes PETKIT PURA. One for my daughter who has an 8 month old Rag Doll. The other for my son & daughter-in-law who have x 2 cats a Moggie and a Norwegian Forrester Cat. They have all welcomed the PETKIT PURRA with no fuss. No more smells and far more hygienic . A very clever machine, WI FI access alerts you when it is used. You can alter the program to cycle at different times. My children have said its a godsend. Colleagues at work are now interested. Highly recommend x

Game changer (or should I say litter changer?)

I have three cats and went from using multiple litter trays to one PetKit Pura X unit and it has been such a God-send when it comes to litter management. I no longer have to regularly scoop and clean litter and instead only empty the waste bin once every 4-5 days and the system sends me a handy notification to let me know when the waste bin is full. It can send notifications to your phone app when your cat has used the system, how long they took and their weight, which makes it easy to track any underlying health concerns you may or may not have (and in general just teach you a little more about the usual habits of your cat, so you'll be able to spot when something isn't quite right about them in the future). It is far more visually appealing than litter trays and not once have I smelled stinky litter ever since using the Pura X. My only down-side to this unit is that when pulling out the waste bin, I often find that because the waste tends to accumulate on one side of the bin closest to where the waste slides in from, it piles up and some of the clay litter will smear onto the bottom of the unit as the bin slides out. It's easily cleaned by wiping the bottom of the unit during the waste bin liner change process, but a bit tedious to have to do when it happens. Perhaps this may not happen with other compatible litter types but my boys prefer the bentonite clay type. I would highly recommend topping up your litter frequently, instead of waiting for the unit to tell you when the litter is low or empty, otherwise you'll be finding yourself needing to give the inside of the unit a deep clean of smeared poop that didn't have enough litter to cover it. Ever since using the Pura X, I have definitely had to use and buy less litter than before though, which is a nice surprise and means more money to spend on other fun things for my cats instead! If you're even remotely curious about one of these auto-litter systems, I'd definitely recommend it and say they're worth every cent. Less time cleaning litter, no smell and way more visually appealing.

Good in theory

Have had it in operation for a few weeks now and our two cats use it. The pros are: 1. Not having to scoop the litter trays multiple times a day. 2. Only having one machine instead of two trays. Cons: 1. This is a big let down in terms of odour. After only two days, it starts to smell quite bad and smell out the laundry it is in. We don't have a very big house (2x1) and if we don't have the bathroom fan on constantly, the smell eventually fills the house. Because of this, we end up emptying it every two days and clean it to take the smell out of the machine. Unfortunately we are now spending much more time cleaning, compared to the cat trays. Have raised this with petkit but unfortunately they do not have a solution that works. We bought this on the basis of their website marketing it as an odour free solution to the house but unfortunately it is not.

My honest review

It definitely changes the way we live with cats, 100%. I’ve found that the app and process is easy and smart, but I did notice it didn’t look like it was advertised. Different colour flat and litter mat. The flap inside sometimes hits my cat and it scared him from using it for a while. I use tofu litter which is advertised, but for some reason when it goes a general clean, it dumps do much of the litter into the waste container. I tried reaching out about it but was told to change the litter even though it’s what they recommended? Anyways, do I think it’s worth the $700? Not really, more like $400. But it does work and keep most smells away while you’re away, as you can control the cleaning from your phone. Never worked

A lot of money for a big pain in the backside. From day one, says there’s a cat in the box when there’s not, so doesn’t clean. When I notice, I have to take it apart and remove the revolting giant clump the litter has become. I have to turn it off and on to get it to restart, which may or may not work. I asked for a replacement six months ago. I’ve obeyed instructions to use the most expensive litter, send 2 videos and connect to the app. There were a couple of months when I just couldn’t face dealing with it. I’ve finally been told I can get a refund but haven’t heard back about how. For something that is supposed to reduce labour, I’ve never been so up close and personal with dirty cat litter as I have since this was delivered. Once adjusted it's a great investment!

I love this machine! I just wished my cats loved it as much as I do. One cat took to it straight away as she is smaller (4.9kg) and has used covered style litter boxes in the past. However, my male cat is slightly bigger (6.3kg) and it took him a while to figure out how to get into the machine comfortably. The opening is small and high up and probably not suitable for larger/arthritic cats I'd suggest putting a wedge shaped cardboard scratcher under the opening to help them climb up if needed. I did have some adjustment and territorial issues once I took the old litter trays away and ended up with some nasty surprises around the house as a result. So beware and take the introduction very slowly! The machine is huge but much more aesthetically pleasing than other ... MoreI love this machine! I just wished my cats loved it as much as I do. I suggest setting the deodorise function to only when cleaning to save buying refills. One rubbish bag lasts about a week for 2 cats although I still have an old litter tray out to avoid territorial issues. There are a few helpful litter robot guides on the internet that helps with some introduction tips I'd suggest looking up before freaking your cats out. My only real issues with the machine are the opening and size of the internal space and the dust that comes off the litter ends up all around the barrel and then on my cats fur. The sifting tray can get pretty clumpy depending what litter you use so I do end up having to clean clumps off it periodically. But my male cat is messy so might just be his litter box etiquette. Overall I like this machine and my cats seem to be adjusting to it well now. It's a worthwhile investment and litter lasts much longer now so I'm saving on litter costs.

This is an absolute game changer, we are so happy with this product. We purchased the PETKIT as we have two very active Ragdoll kittens and were over attending to their litters on a daily basis. As soon as this device was set up our Kittys jumped straight in and started using it. In the past they have never used an enclosed litter tray and we were quite surprised that they used it straight away. We have had the PETKIT now for a week and have not had to do any maintenance or changing of litters. My hubby was a little sceptical at first but now is so impressed I heard him bragging to his work colleagues on how good this unit is. We have already saved money on purchasing our weekly kitty litter. I've been researching and contemplating an automatic litter box for years now...finally with the summer heat and the overwhelming stench of hot litter tray, I made the purchase, and 4 weeks in, I'm so glad I did. I have two adult cats - one accepted it immediately and uses it 90% of the time (I still have a regular tray available for the other cat). I still have it set to manual so as not to scare him and averse him. The smell is minimal. It is noticeable on a hot day, but not nearly as bad as a regular litter tray, and, I'll be honest, I should empty the waste tray more than I do, but I'm lazy and 'out of sight, out of mind'. The litter mat catches the tracked litter excellently- and the cat that is using it is a real digger and tracker! It is big and bulky, and looks a but like a washing machine, but I have put it in a corner where it's not obvious unless you're standing right in front of it. And honestly, I'd rather look at it than smell urine and faeces. Although I'm disappointed one of my cats hasn't used it yet, I'm working on slowly getting him prepped to - I've swapped his regular tray to a covered tray, changed litter, and will increase the height to mimic that of the pura x. Even if he decides he never wants to use it, reducing the excrement in the regular tray by 50% has made a massive difference. I'm spending noticeably less time cleaning cat litter. If you've been contemplating buying it for a while, I say go for it.

Unfortunately it smells the house out

I have 2 cats. One that took to it straight away and the other took several weeks but now both using it. I’ve tried 4-5 different brands of litter but the smell is terrible. I change the bottom litter tray everyday to try to minimize the smell but so far nothing has worked. It’s a very very expensive machine for the smell to be this bad. I actually don’t think the smell was this bad when I had a regular litter box with cover. Unfortunately I wish I did not purchase this auto litter box.
