i have the zipka. the primary reason i bought it was because it's light. it's lighter than my thrunite TH20 for sure. the retractable cord is a lot more comfortable than i would have thought. given its thinness, i would expect the pressure that it exerts on my head to lead to discomfort in a short time. surprisingly it does not. i can't speak for the longevity of the cord or the spring that retracts it yet. it is also very compact especially with its innovative retractable cord system. i keep it in my backpack for "just in case".the spacing for the brightness just seems ludicrous. it goes from 5 lumens to 100 and the 200. 5, 50, 200 would be a far more meaningful spacing. 100 is too bright for up close work. 5 is usually too low for detailed work.my other gripe ... Morei have the zipka. the primary reason i bought it was because it's light. it's lighter than my thrunite TH20 for sure. the retractable cord is a lot more comfortable than i would have thought. given its thinness, i would expect the pressure that it exerts on my head to lead to discomfort in a short time. surprisingly it does not. i can't speak for the longevity of the cord or the spring that retracts it yet. it is also very compact especially with its innovative retractable cord system. i keep it in my backpack for "just in case".the spacing for the brightness just seems ludicrous. it goes from 5 lumens to 100 and the 200. 5, 50, 200 would be a far more meaningful spacing. 100 is too bright for up close work. 5 is usually too low for detailed work.my other gripe with it is that it does not have constant output regulation. this is a bit annoying because this day and age, pretty much any reputable torchlight has constant output regulation (usually the only exception is for the brightest mode).if they would make it for 2AAA or 2AA or even 1AA i would have liked it a lot more because most of the batteries that users buy come in even numbers. even numbers are easier for charging as well.if you want a compact headlamp, this is it. if you want a headlamp with a more advanced UI, that's more comfortable to wear, and made of solid aluminium, i would highly recommend thrunite TH20. it runs on AA or 14500 and goes from 0.1 to 500 lumens with a lot of flexibility in between.

As always Petzl always one of the best! Sure theyre made in France you cant get any better European mountaineering technology I feel they have some of the best in lighting and LED technology especially for caving, climbing, hiking, backpacking, mountaineering, all the outdoor said activities above. Ive been using the products for over 30 years and they still are innovative is the most if not more than the rest of the outdoor companies out there keep up the good work. Not only waterproof highly safety rating when it comes to a lot of the equipment they use in industrial applications! All the details down to this little emergency light make it very innovative. This little light is a workhorse and is easy on batteries. The switch allows you to turn on the red light without cycling thru the brighter settings. This is the only light I have with this feature and I have always wanted my headlamps to do this!I originally bought this thing to bring on safari in Kenya. It was a beautiful permanent camp in the Maasai Mara. We had been warned that the baboons were able to unzip the tents, so having a whistle and light handy was nice. The soft, thin strap and light weight meant that I could just slip it over my head and sleep with it around my neck quite comfortably.Since then I have always included it in my kit, using it frequently for reading, walks, searching for stuff in dark places, climbing up slippery rocks stairs from ... MoreThis little light is a workhorse and is easy on batteries. This headlamp is fantastic. It is the lightest possible light you can get and yet still maintains many valuable functions. I am an ultralight backpacker on the weekends and am near the obsessive base weight of five pounds that everyone raves about, this light weighs in at a scant .9oz on my scale (the light only, I do not use the included hard storage case). That’s for a good light with a whistle integrated into the headband- saving a few grams off ditching an independent whistle in my emergency supplies (if you’re a gram counter). The light itself functions well, having a flood style illumination, which has no long range throw but is good enough for setting up camp and navigating short distances, I would NOT recommend night hiking prolonged distances due to the ... MoreThis headlamp is fantastic. All in all, for the lightest quality head lamp around, it performs great, if you need more light for the night, sacrifice the weight and seek elsewhere, hope that helps!
The Petzl e+LITE is a great headlamp for sitting around camp cooking, hanging out, or to use in a shelter or your tent. It's surprisingly bright for the low amount of lumens that it offers, and with the various settings that it offers, you have a great variety of lights for every occasion. The only issue that I'm not too crazy about is the instability of the lamp compartment itself. It has a tendency to want to fold down with quick motions or when jogging or running.
Very nice small and lightweight device for backpacking. There is enough light to see what you are doing in the dark. Red light is also bright and useful. The only thing I would like to change is that it would also have an amber light and new modification of the switch button instead of clicking in a round. You can adjust angle of a light part to protect the eyes of others.I also like that instead of large batteries, it has two small and lightweight coin batteries.A small, lightweight whistle with an elastic band for adjusting the size is a great idea. The elastic band for gathering the tent in the dark is comfortable. On a backpacking trip, every weight counts and this flashlight is what we need.
I really wanted to love this headlamp, but I don't. The beam is super wide, which makes the headlamp even dimmer. The red light is a bit useful inside a cabin at night to walk to the washroom or the kitchen without bothering your traveling companions, but that's about it.I've had this light for three years, I knew better than to rely on it, but threw it in my bag on a recent day hike as I wasn't expecting to need it. We got caught out in the dark on a wet, muddy, challenging trail, the headlamp was all but useless. Definitely don't rely on this as your emergency trail light. The light shines into the eyes a bit, which is super annoying and makes it even harder to see. I'd save this light for inside use if the power goes out and all you need is a bit of light to ... MoreI really wanted to love this headlamp, but I don't. This is an absolutely tiny, lightweight, inexpensive and surprisingly powerful head torch primarily intended for emergency use - the glove box of a car, side pocket of your hiking pack, your desk drawer, or for astronomy with its red light option. Comes with a water-proof capsule that also protects it from crushing and dust. (The capsule may be waterproof, but the torch is no more than water resistant). Explicitly NOT for caving, or any other activity where it would need to be on for hours, or where a super-powerful beam is required. It isnt THAT powerful (few head torches are, and it uses a tiny watch battery, easily obtainable and not expensive, but too small for either power or longevity). Also makes an excellent stocking-filler.
Bought this because of its small size (it uses a CR2032 watch battery) to keep as an emergency backup... but I have loved using it as my regular headlamp (over my Black Diamond and Fenix) because of its features. The mechanism to switch between settings is really ingenious: it has an off setting at either end of the switch wheel so if all you want is the red light to save your eyes in the middle of the night you don't have to cycle through all the different lights. It's really compact and has a swivel cover that protects it. It's extremely lightweight and even has a small safety whistle that acts as the headband adjuster. It's quite bright on it's highest setting and has a nice low light setting too. Very happy with this!
These are nifty little lights. I own the older version.. When I purchased this "new edition" online I assumed it would be 50 lumens as shown on the website. When it arrived the packaging clearly indicates 40 lumens. It was easy to return to Altitude sports but unfortunately for me I still had to pay the shipping return cost.
