It is works awesome!! I even got it around my gecko aluminum spikes. Seriously tho? You don’t say anything about an added rope catch tho! It’s on the website for $5? That’s not even smart if you’re trying to up charge people. At least mention it and say you can add this on for a small fee. But, why in the heck is not included? If someone is going to pay $80. Don’t you think they would spend $85 to have it included. Nope. You get it and are like unless I have the perfect form it’ll slip out. Then research it. Find out there IS a rope catch. For five freaking dollars. Come on man!!

Does its job. Gets me in the tree. The webbing is white so it shows dirt, thats a plus for maintenance a minus for my ocd. It’s thin material and very light so not cumbersome. Positive grab the rope and feeds well. Mechanism felt a little sloppy in my hands upon first arrival. When it’s on my foot, does what it is made to do. Rope goes in and out when I want and stays put while ascending. Doesn’t seem to beat up or tear on my Ivy 11.7. This left pantin has paired well with my Petzl right hand ascender. Got both on sale, I’m done thrusting, thanks treestuff!

My company started tree work about 3 years ago. We have two climbers, and a spider lift. My fiancé being one of the climbers has really encouraged me to start trying to climb. As a girl I really struggled with pulling myself up, but then I got my hands on this foot accender. It has made it possible for me to really start learning and working on my climbing skills. Highly recommended!

Received this foot ascender from my boss. Without the catch it can be a huge pain to use, kicking out all of the time especially when you're just getting used to the motion. It also grabs the rope and doesn't want to tend nicely until you're like 15ft in the air. I like that it's such low profile and I've used it successfully alongside spurs. The CMI foot ascender, while 3x bulkier tends much nicer. The teeth are too sharp for my liking, the CT foot ascender will damage your rope less. I've been using this for about a year now and it's okay but if it ever needs replacing I'd try a different one.
I bought the cmi first and it was terribly designed, the rope torqued the strap mounts because the cam grab wasn't in line with the ascender mount. I noticed the Petzl was perfectly in line, the mount for the foot ascender transferred the weight of my body directly to the rope, without torqueing and twisting the mounting straps. I tried it out and liked it a lot, but I couldn't get it to stop kicking out, so I bought the catch, which it should've come with from the get go.I ended up sewing the bottom strap together for the size of my boot for a better firm fitment. I'm going to buy the left one now. I really like the super small compact size. You hardly know it's on your foot.
Petzl makes good stuff. This is a solid little foot ascender. It's small and lightweight so doesn't get in the way. The dog is tacky but doesn't mess with the rope much. I've found it easy to release the rope with just a shake of the foot. At first this annoyed me, as I had trouble keeping on the rope but now see it as an advantage. It would be nice if it were bidirectional and I'm not sure about using white webbing for a foot ascender but it looks sharp out of the box. Overall, I'd recommend.
Great piece of hardware. Not as heavy duty as some of the other ascenders I’ve come across, but much less rigid. Slides if not fully cinched.
Excellent, wish I'd bought one years ago! Takes some practice to not accidentally cause the rope come out of the Pantin when ascending at times. when not freehanging and not quite on the vertical, rope walking is very natural and so much better than sit-stand. Even when sit-stand on free-hanging ropes, the Pantin definitely helped me. I did a ~100m jumar and tested it on that --> I've been converted! BUY ONE
Got this for my son, who started climbing just this past summer. It's got a very light spring so what when you're at the bottom of your rope and just getting on it doesn't take much to feed the rope through. My CT foot ascender has a stronger spring, so when I'm just getting on the rope I have to pull the tail end of the rope to get it to feed. Once up a ways, and there's more rope to weight the bottom down, this problem goes away. With the Pantin's lighter spring this really isn't an issue at all. I agree with one of the other reviewers though, if you buy this ascender get yourself the catch as well.
This is a great ultralight foot ascender. I've had mine for years and it works well. Though it's prone to kicking out the rope when sloppy technique is used. I find adjusting its position on the foot for your climbing style, or pointing the toes down helps keep the rope secure. The release tab is an incredibly useful feature. Tying an overhand knot at the tip of the strap is helpful to keep the strap from spilling out of the tension system when forcefully untensioning. I've additionally installed 1" nylon webbing over the instep bottom strap to protect it, but it appears this was unnecessary as the dyneema, while prone to abrasion and fuzzing, seems durable enough.
