I recently joined a gym for the first time as the team sport I play has became a once a week pastime. After my first three months of at least three sessions a week I had lost some weight that unfortunately included a percentage of muscle. A friend recommended PHD and after a month I kept up the weight loss but recovered the muscle I had lost. Taken with my porridge in the morning and a drink (with milk) later. Great taste and definite results.

I am new to protein powders so have no comparison with other powders but I'm so happy with this one that I see no need to try a different brand. There is a great range of flavours though my favourite is Belgian Chocolate. The powder is very fine so mixes really well. I find it mixes better if you put the water in first and then the powder rather than powder first. Given a good shake in ice cold water it's a delicious, thick and creamy milkshake. It fills me up enough that I don't feel the need to snack so that's a bonus. Will definitely continue buying it.

Texture and flavour is fine, though not quite as good as Scimx I think.PhD have the best prices I've found.Nutritional info is far too limited for this type of suppliment. Contains a veriety of protein sources but does not state the ratios, so no way to tell how much is casein and soy protein. Also does not list the different amino acid and glutamine ammounts, only the total BCAA content.Price is unbeatable but limited ingredients info brings the rating down, people care about that kind of thing when taking suppliments.

Did not enjoy
10 September 2022

**Accidentally wrote my review for this on the wrong flavour, so this is my review for chocolate**I have had low calorie protein powder before that were absolutely amazing. Unfortunately that brand is no longer in stock at H&B, and so I stumbled upon this product as a potential replacement. First impressions upon opening the bag was that the powder was very clunky and didn't want to break up. I mixed it in with my overnight oats anyway, eager to try it using roughly 30g, and what was the most disappointing for me was the lack of flavour it has. I could barely taste any chocolate to it at all.I've only had two scoops of it and will be looking to buy a new product immediately.

Great as always

I really like PhD Diet powders. I have been using them for a couple of years. They taste great (I find they don't have what I can only describe as a weird dairy-protein taste overlay) and I LOVE the consistency; it is what drew me to the range and why I continue to stick with it. I want my 'protein shakes' to have an actual shake-like consistency, rather than simply being what is effectively sweet water, which is what I find other protein powders result in. For those that complain this does not mix properly: as long as you put in the water first and the powder on top, you should have no issues using a protein shaker with mesh ball (I consume one scoop at a time). I also put in an ice cube so that might help, too. I do agree that my memories of attempting this ... MoreI really like PhD Diet powders. I have been using them for a couple of years. I also put in an ice cube so that might help, too. I do agree that my memories of attempting this without a shaker/ball and/or just trying to use a spoon to mix it are not so fond. I would advise shaking this anyway to get the thicker 'shake' consistency. With regards to the chocolate flavour, I do not find this too sweet by any stretch and am somewhat surprised by those reviewers that do. My comparison is MyProtein, which is god awfully sweet, in any flavour. The chocolate flavour tastes really good, too; I would say the chocolate smell is stronger than the actual chocolate taste itself, though this is the first chocolate-flavour powder I have tried so I have nothing to compare it too.I also have the White Chocolate Raspberry (tasty, but UNREAL with a small handful of real raspberries shaken in); the Cherry Bakewell (good; personally I wouldn't buy it again but only because I really like other flavours instead. Otherwise there are people who rave about the flavour); and the Cookies and Cream (I cannot really remember the flavour but it was the first one I ever purchased so it must have been good as it turned me into a repeat customer). As a disclaimer: if you have not tried PhD Diet powders before and are looking for something to mix into anything other than liquid, this may NOT be the powder for you. I tested two powders (PhD Diet and MyProtein, which makes a very watery shake) with Greek yogurt in equal proportions (yogurt in grams, powder in tablespoon measures). MyProtein mixed in superbly, while the PhD resulted in a very thick, fluffy, paste-like substance. Perhaps I should have tried adding water to see how it resulted thinned out but hey ho.Summary: PhD Diet powders taste great and will result in a lovely, thick shake-like drink that is enjoyable on its own. The chocolate flavour is not too sweet, doesn't have an after taste, and has a nice flavour. If, however, you are looking for a powder to mix into yogurt or similar, this might not be the best choice.

Not delightful!!!
23 January 2023

It may be called strawberry delight but there was nothing delightful about the flavour. I stupidly bought this because it was on special offer. I usually buy another strawberry flavour sold at H&B and I was very happy with it. Next time I will stick with what I know! I've never been so unhappy with something I've bought (as you can tell with this rant!)

PhD lacking basic research into flavour
2 August 2022

PhD makes outlandish claim that it tastes of Belgian chocolate - not in this universe! Not at all like chocolate, barely even hazelnut flavour, with a gritty, chalky texture (even after vigorous shaking to mix) & a flat, slightly bitter, artificial aftertaste. Just kak. Gets two stars for supplying the protein constituent it claims, but that’s all. Other brands like Optimum (worth the extra money) put this to shame. Please restock Optimum, Asda!

Pretty Horrible Drink: tastes like biscuit crumbs
20 September 2022

I can only imagine that the high reviews for this product are from people who haven't tasted other brands, as it's one of the worst I've had.Texture is powdery, no matter how much water/milk you add and it eases down your throat like a cup full of biscuit crumbs. Taste isn't great (mainly due to texture), tastes a bit more synthetic compared to others. It's actually the only powder I threw away rather than trying to finish, so that sums it up right there!! Don't waste your money, go for another brand.

Totally unimpressed

Totally disgusting and I tried the banana and don’t see why you have to exercise while using this product as what happens if you’re trying to lose weight due to lack of mobility after having a very serious heart attack and falling down the stairs causing a very serious injury and spent 4 weeks in hospital and still recovering and just can’t eat as I now don’t like the texture of food in my mouth and yet the weight continues to pile on. Also what is the difference between whey and milk and soy especially if you don’t drink milk or eat butter. Literally the bottom line is that it’s of no use value or beneficial to you if you’re a disabled person who can’t exercise, therefore, it’s obviously your exercise regime that is causing the weight loss and not this actual ... MoreTotally disgusting and I tried the banana and don’t see why you have to exercise while using this product as what happens if you’re trying to lose weight due to lack of mobility after having a very serious heart attack and falling down the stairs causing a very serious injury and spent 4 weeks in hospital and still recovering and just can’t eat as I now don’t like the texture of food in my mouth and yet the weight continues to pile on. A complete waste of money as literally only fit for the refuse bin
