We have been using our Philips 5400 for about five weeks and we are happy with our purchase. The coffee that it makes is excellent and for the most part it is easy to use. I would buy this machine again if I were to replace it. There are several drinks to choose from and customize. Now for the negative: we have chosen drinks that are our favorites which could use further customization to make the experience better. I like to make Americanos for the taste and volume of the coffee which is great, but I then need to select the “other drinks” button and use the “frothed milk “ function set to the maximum amount to make a suitable size cup of coffee. The latte function doesn’t provide the right combination for me.For all I know, there may be a way to do this but recipe instructions are sparse. The owners manual was written by lawyers and has more information about what not to do than how to get the results you want. I have been unable to find further useful information on the web.

There is a lot to like withi this coffee machine. Easy to set up, looks stylish and good quality. I like that it saves settings and has multiple user profiles. Good size water tank and coffee bean hopper takes reasonable amount of beans. Easy to empty and to clean. I haven't used it do much for drinks with milk yet sonce I'm a black coffee drinker but I'm sure it will get used by visitor. The suto dhut-off is a useful feature and that it rinses each time although this can fill up the drip tray so I kerp a smsll cup under it.Negatives (slthough minor in my opinion) are that it is a bit noisy. Other than a little red thing in the drip tray there is nothing to warn that the drip tray is full. Also would be nice if it included some coffee beans to get started. ... I am very happy with my Phillips LatteGo 5400. It makes good coffee and is easy to use. It’s also easy to maintain and keep clean. There are a few things that would make it a little bit better in my opinion. The bean hopper could be a little large so as to accommodate an entire 1lb bag of coffee beans. I get my beans in packages of 1lb and only about 3/4 of that fits in the hopper. I also wish it would grind little bit finer and fit a little more coffee into the basket for a shot of espresso. It’s a good machine for what it does but I find it too expensive for not being better. At around $900 CAD I think I would rate it 5 stars with no real negatives but for nearly $1400 I find it could have been a little better.

I'm a latte drinker, so I was looking for a coffee-bean machine that was fully automated for lattes. This is a good quality machine and does many things well. Some annoyances -- even on the highest temperature, the milk isn't super hot, which is a big disappointment. The setting to clean the milk jug after each use -- you have to effectively press a button three times to run this simple function. It should be a one button task. Three buttons sounds small but it's pretty annoying, since you do it after every coffee. Also, would be good to be able to choose what drinks appear at the top of the menu, ones you use the most. The brew group is hard to remove to clean, gets stuck pretty often. Also runs through water quickly, as it uses it to rinse internal mechanisms ... Other than that, I do like the machine. To be honest, if I could just make the milk hotter, it would take it up to five stars, and could make do with the rest.
I was excited to use this machine once it arrived. It was easy enough to set up, however I don't think it's clear on how to set your grinder for best results, or what the settings actually mean etc.the machine is very noisy, and does a mini rinse when switching on/off so you can't put your mug straight under it.It will start to make your drink but if you don't realise that you haven't topped up enough water or milk then it cancels the job midway through instead of picking up where it left off.The drip tray fills up quickly (despite catching all rinses in a container) the water tank goes down quickly because of this.1/3 of my latte glass is usually filled with foam, whilst I don't mind some foam I find it unnecessary and makes my drink taste cold immediately, but ... This Philips Lattego 5400 machine has been a big disappointment to me. I wasted money I received on this when my daughters bought much cheaper Cuisinart coffee machines that actually make better tasting coffee with lower rated coffee beans than I’ve been investing in trying to get my brews to taste acceptable. I’ve waited five months too long to realize that I really hate this machine. Only the macchiato tastes slightly acceptable, but not as good as coffee from any other machine. It makes worse tasting coffee and espressos than gas station coffee. I wish I could get at least half my money back so I could spend less than $200 to get a machine that would make coffee I feel I could offer guests. I gave it two stars instead of one since the machine works at least.
I have been in search for an espresso machine for a while now, and I couldn’t be more impressed! Not only was I able to get rid of my old one regular coffee machine that wasted through tons of plastic everyday, but this literally does it all-12 different coffee’s! I love how it self cleans, and is easy to work. Every cup can be customized to our desired cup. We tried the LatteGo system as well and it was perfection. Plus, when you have a busy day ahead of you, you can just add another shot for a boost of power. If you like your coffee grounds fine-or med blend, it’s adjustable too. This really is the perfect machine, I am so glad we got this one. Life changing! Complimentary from philipshomeliving
I previously reviewed this giving it 3 stars because of the temperature of the coffee. Philips responded and we returned the unit for repair. When it came back, the coffee was hotter - still not hot enough but better. Unfortunately, it started constantly giving us a message that it needed water - even after having just filled the water reservoir and in the middle of brewing a cup of coffee. We wrote to Philips again and they sent us a new water reservoir and sensor with the expectation of having us install it. The reservoir did not have the front plate on it and there were no instructions on how to install or get the plate off of the old one and on to the new one. We wrote asking for instructions but they have not responded after several weeks. It is a complete ... MoreI previously reviewed this giving it 3 stars because of the temperature of the coffee. This machine is brilliantly designed and makes the most lovely coffee. There are more coffee options that I could ever want with most of the more popular ones available from a single press of a button on the attractive front screen. However, slightly disappointed that my beverage of choice (Latte) is 'buried' in a sub-menu of 'other drinks'. Also slightly disappointed that the machine can't make a drink equal in size to those massive cups you get in a well known coffee chain - I drink a lot of coffee! - but the sizes are good enough for the average person. The milk steaming system is brilliantly designed - so easy to clean compared to competitor options. Despite my couple of gripes (/wishes) I am still giving this machine 5 stars as I absolutely love it.
first bean to cup coffee machine, decided to upgrade after my manual coffee machine broke down. did a lot of reading and watching reviews before taking the plunge. overall have been very pleased with my purchase so far, but as I found out it takes a while for it to settle down. good coffee options with the ability to change strength/amount, although these increase/decrease by set amounts and are limited making it hard at times to get the correct amount. I like a large cappuccino and have similar to a costa cup, it will not fill the cup in one go with the settings it has, so have had to reduce them and run the cycle twice. I have noted that it seems to short deliver to the amount it states as when set to do a 200ml drink it only fills the cup 3/4's, I would prefer ... I have noted that it seems to short deliver to the amount it states as when set to do a 200ml drink it only fills the cup 3/4's, I would prefer being able to adjust by 10ml amounts and upper limit capable of going to larger amount. there are different profiles for individuals, although only used the one profile currently. automatic milk dispenser/frother is great and provides a good foam, although it would be better if it had graduations on it so I could judge the quantity of milk repetitively better. but overall I would recommend this product if you are a coffee lover and would like the ease of speciality coffees at the push of a button, once you have persevered with setting up profiles to cup size and how you like it.
