Philips Avent Natural Response Glass Baby Gift Set

Although I primarily breastfeed my newborn, we occasionally give her a bottle when I leave her with grandma or my husband for a few hours. For this review, I fed her with the bottle myself so I could compare how different or alike it is to breastfeeding.Upon opening the box, I was impressed by the number of bottles (three 4 ounce bottles and two 8 ounce bottles), as well as the fact that they are made of glass. I had actually used the original Phillips Avent Natural glass bottles with my firstborn. When I inspected the nipple, I could immediately see the difference. These nipples have three little holes, mimicking a real breast that has several streams, not just one. I couldn’t wait to try them!Similarly to the original Natural bottles, they were super easy to clean and sterilize, which is always a plus. I pumped about three ounces of milk and was ready to give the bottle to my baby.It’s important to mention that with my firstborn, she wouldn’t take a bottle easily because she was used to being breastfed. This was fine when I was home with her, but when I had to leave her with someone else, it was always a gamble because sometimes she took the bottle and sometimes she refused. When she did take the bottle, it would take her a few tries to get a good latch. I wasn’t sure what to expect this time around. To my surprise and amazement, my newborn took the bottle immediately! She treated it like my own breast, and she started eating right away. I would remove the bottle from her mouth occasionally to burp her, and she burped right away, which also surprised me because when I usually burp her after a feed, it takes a few minutes.As the Natural Response Nipplepromised, she was only able to get milk out of the bottle when she was actively feeding. It didn’t just come spilling out, which is great because no breastmilk was wasted. I could her hear take big swallows, which is so important when making sure baby is actually getting enough milk. The Flow 2 nipples that were included in the box were perfect for her.I love the look and feel of the glass bottle. It might be a bit heavier than a traditional plastic bottle, but I think it’s worth it for the health and safety of my family. The two silicone sleeves (one for the 4 oz. and one for the 8 oz. bottles) were a nice addition, especially when the bottle needs to be warmed. Again, I pumped and immediately fed my baby specifically for this review, but the silicone sleeve will be used when grandma needs to feed her. The silicone sleeve was easy to put on the bottle, and I liked how the it had a space so you can see the measurements and how many baby is eating without having to remove the sleeve.If any breastfeeding mamas out there are looking for a bottle to give baby along with the breast, I highly recommend the Philips Avent Natural Newborn Glass Bottles. I was given this bottle set to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. For some context, I tried this product with my second baby, who is just over four months old and is mostly breastfed, but occasionally bottle-fed with pumped milk. My baby much prefers being breastfed, so she initially fussed when given this bottle (with the size 2 nipple). After a couple attempts including switching to the size 3 nipple, she did take to it and there didn't seem to be any issues with pausing to swallow and breathe. I think the wide shape of the nipple also helped. Before trying it out with my baby, I actually tested it myself (with water) and the nipple is really well-designed in that nothing comes out unless you actively suck on it. As for the bottles themselves, they seem to be made of thick, good quality glass. I was able to pump straight into the bottle with no issues as long as I was only doing one side. I didn't try pumping straight into two bottles using a pumping bra as that would've been too heavy for me. Although the bottles are easy enough to hold, I appreciated the silicone sleeves for even better grip as my baby has recently started flailing her arms and reaching for anything and everything during feeds! I thought the sleeves were well-designed with gaps in order to see the bottle measurements. The sleeve fits snugly on the bottle, so you just need to be careful when putting it on or taking it off. As for cleaning, it was easy enough cleaning the four parts (plus the sleeve) using standard bottle/nipple brushes and a sterilizer (I have the Avent one).To summarize:Pros - Quality glass bottles, wide nipple shape, leak-proof 'responsive' nipple design, silicone sleeves.Cons - Bottle cap isn't always the easiest to remove; only one silicone sleeve included for each bottle size.Would I recommend this bottle set to others? Absolutely!

I have a 6 month old who is predominantly breastfed but in order to share the feeding responsibilities my partner feeds them with pumped breast milk in a bottle nightly. We used the Phillips Avent Natural Newborn bottles for our 6 month old. Of note, the nipple provided in this box is intended for newborns.Pros:- I loved about this product is that it’s made of glass which meant I wasn’t nervous about chemicals leeching when heating up the milk (I use a bowl of hot water to heat). - I loved the silicone sleeve and I was pleasantly surprised that my babe did too! The bottle is the perfect configuration for a bottle brush to clean (no silly crevices for things to get stuck)…bonus is that since it’s glass I’m not nervous of putting it in the dishwasher if I need to (though I prefer to hand wash).- I love that it comes with a small and large bottle so that you can size appropriately based on babe’s appetiteCons:- nipple in this package is intended for 0 months+ and 1 month+ and was a fairly slow flow nipple which led to a bit of frustration from babe. He did drink from it but was annoyed by the flow I think.- for once daily use the product comes with 5 bottles and nipples which is a bit excessive for my needs (2 would’ve been sufficient for once daily use)…but if I sent pumped milk to childcare this would be ideal!Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this bottle set.
