Philips Hue Appear Outdoor Wall Light

A fab addition to my Hue system. If there is one place at the house where mood coloured lighting is compulsory (apart from upstairs!) it’s outdoors around the patio. This unit is excellently constructed and when integrated with other lights in the Hue system gives a great effect of replicating or complementing the adjacent coloured indoor lights. You’ll often read about bringing the outdoors in and vice versa, for example with tiling, but what better way to create mood lighting that flows from within the house to outside than extending the Hue system in this way?

A lovely addition to my garden!

I'd heard about these Philips lights before and was intrigued to see how they would look in my garden. It was simple to set up (with the help of an electrician) and easy to figure out the instructions. Even just one light has made such a difference to my garden. You can pick a range of colours but I prefer the warm natural light as it creates a lovely glow. It's really brightened up my patio and I would recommend one if you're looking to refresh your outdoor space.

Amazing - I love being able to change the colour to anything

This stylish light is amazing - it creates such a feature of my small walled decking area. The ability to swap the colour to make it suit you is fantastic, the colours are beautiful!The smart control system (called Phillips Hue Bridge) is really easy to use and it's so handy being able to control it from your phone via the app - you can even set timers for it to automatically turn on or off which I love. The only thing to remember is that you do need an expert to install it!

Excellent Outdoor Light

As the wiring was already in place, this was very easy for anyone with common sense to fit. The cover fortunately covered all but one of the previous drill holes but that can easily be filled. The wall box has two sections to drill out for the wall screws: these allow some final up and down adjustment so that light can be fitted absolutely straight. The wiring is simple and, as the light fitting wall just clicks reassuringly on to the wall box, there were no fiddly maneuvers and no frustration at poor design. My Hue bridge discovered the light quickly and now I can set colours and timings from my mobile or ask Alexa to turn it on and off. The whole fitting is good looking and solid and, with a 20% discount treat, I think I am going to be very happy with this purchase.

Insufficient lumens and HomeKit issues

I found the lumens on these fixtures do not provide an adequate punch for anything larger than an 8’x14’ structure. I have contacted Philips to request they produce sconces with higher lumens and hope this is offered soon. I would not recommend these for a home unless you plan to only use white - soft amber. Color range is good and individual controls are nice via the Philips app (when it works). Interfacing with HomeKit hasn’t been great. Lots of errors with the Philips app including difficulty using the extended features due to login issues. Admittedly, I am a lighting designer (theatrical/events/projection) and have high expectations when it comes to the capability of a fixture. Take this into consideration when reading my review.

Light for every mood

Finally found an electrician who could fit this light for us. He was very impressed with how easy it was to install and that it had a light at the top and bottom.The quality of the light is beautiful. It's great that you can set the colour of the lighting up from your mobile with the app, which is great when you are out, or in the garden having a party - it really sets the scene. It's great that you can set alarms and notifications on the Hue and what else is great is that it works with all the modern day gadgets such a Alexa, Google Assistant etc.I would highly recommend this product as it is very easy to use and more importantly can be controlled through your phone or smart tablet.

Looks great during the day, beautiful at night

Definitely the talk of the neighborhood! These lights look great. The colors are bright and amazing. Easy to install. The app isn’t great. A little clunky to use.

Perfect for creating ambience

As we're spending so much more time at home at the moment our garden has become increasingly important for us as a family and this light has helped us stretch out the summer evenings just a little bit longer. The adjustable brightness is a key feature as we can have it bright when eating and then dim it down a bit as we enjoy family time after. We've enjoyed testing out the different colours to create different mood lighting. The best bit is that you can do it all through the app without having to get up and fiddle around with controls! The up/down light is really elegant and has transformed our patio area. The sleek black design means it looks good even when the light isn't on! Very good but not water tight

I have 7 of these. They are pretty great for normal situations but I have one light that I've had to replace twice because of water infiltration. Six out of the seven have performed splendidly, the one that is exposed to the elements has had to be replaced twice. It's partly on me since the location frequently gets soaked during our Florida rains, but an outdoor light should be completely water tight.

Very nice accent light

Easy install and great build quality. The light beam is very classy creating a vertical triangular column of light on the wall where they are mounted. This light should be for accent only as it will not provide enough light going outward to provide much coverage. The power of the light is slightly less than expected but overall a great accent light
