Variations are possible but I cannot vouch they will work.

Ambilight on steroids! You need to invest to get the most from this - we have 6 play bars, a lightstrip and a couple of GU10s in the corners of the room. Setup an entertainment area to encompass all these and associate the sync box with that entertainment area. Latest firmware upgrade added Dolby Vision support (fully reactive) and infra-red remote support - so it can now easily be added to your Harmony Elite for on / off and input controls. Remember you can still add the lights to Hue Scenes which you can trigger with your remote / dimmer controls etc. so that when you aren't using the ambilight type TV effect you can beautify your room...

Bought the sync box. It's brilliant for watching movies, it's like an extension of your tv, really adds to the atmosphere. Tried it on gaming, not really my cup of tea but perhaps I wasn't playing the right kind of game.If you love watching movies, then this is for you.
This box works really well with Chromecast and Samsung KS9000 65' series. I've also installed Philips Hue Play Gradient Lightstrip and it does the magic together!HOWEVER: Buyers must know that it will only work with signal that passes through the HDMI inputs of this box. So any app running on a TV directly wont work with this box. However if you have Chromecast, Apple TV or a game console you use to watch content (e.g. Netflix, YouTube, Disney, HBO, etc.) it will work great. I just cast any of the apps to Chromecast from my iPhone or iPad and it works well.Overall it was well worth the price and 40 minutes of installation of Lightstrip and Sync box - if setup correctly it creates an amazing ambience.

I purchased this Sync Box and a hue TV light strip (not the normal Hue light strips) for a 65" TV and set them up. The Sync Box sits in an AV cabinet out of the way and the light strip is attached to the back of the TV with the clip in adhesive guides it comes with.Connected to the Sync Box via HDMI are: a Sky Q box, an Xbox One, and a Nintendo Switch caddy. You can't just get a longer one as that would make the light show in the wrong place. It is set for three sides only. If you want to do the bottom of the TV you need the play bars which cost extra. I got a couple but they would not fit behind the TV so check what space you have.* It can be tricky to set up. I work in IT and as mentioned, am a gadget boy with lots of 'toys' at home and this one was a head scratcher for a while. For the XBOX to sync I had to mess around with the settings but can't remember how I got it working. For the Sky Q I did this:1. Settings2. Set-up3. Audio / Visual4. Picture Resolution: 1080p5. Digital audio output HDMI: Normal6. Digital audio output optical: NormalObviously, this does limit the picture quality but not enough to be a deal breaker for me.* To use the Hue Sync Box / light strip functionality, the picture has to come via the Hue Sync Box. If you have a Smart TV, it will not work with the Apps installed on the TV so Disney, Netflix, Prime etc. are a no, no. It is a compromise but I installed the APPs I use on the the XBOX or use via Apps on the Sky Q. It is a little extra effort but worth it.Overall, and as I said earlier, I love it. Now it is set up I have not had any issues and the small compromises I have made are worth it.
This box is amazing in principle. However I find the syncing process to be very tedious and time consuming. A pro tip I learned is to connect your most frequent used devices (in my case PS4 and AppleTV) to input number 2 and 4 as they can handle the highest data transfer.
It is OK for the lights, but when you try to connect to TV from external sources (chromecast, nvidia, other tv boxes), it becomes tricky because you need to go through the Application on your phone. Consider that all your HDMI cables will go to this box and not the TV. Then from the box there is a single HDMI cable connecting to the TV. Surely they are other ways easier to connect.
Too many steps, too may apps, too much hassle. I bought this three months ago. It's never worked as promised. I've been a hue user for 5 years at four different addresses. I'm not new to the challenges of setting up home automation. But oh boy this thing is a dud. I'm so angry at myself for not paying attention to the other reviews.
