An excellent product for its purpose

This product arrived very promptly. Its instructions are comprehensive, easy to follow and understand, and very descriptive in helping the reader understand exactly how to use it along with many recommendations and safety advice. The heat from the product's light is very gentle and barely noticeable, with a selection of heat settings for your preference. The pulse from the light is very bright even when pressed hard against the skin, which is something worth noting. It will take time for results to show, but from an operational point of view this product provides a very friendly user experience. It is intuitive and easy to operate and simple and clear instructions.

At long last a long term hair reduction solution

I took the plunge on the lumea a month ago and so far I've been pleased. I have suffered with unwanted dark hair on my face that I have been waxing and tweezing for as long as I can remember, the unwanted hair has got progressively worse; really ramping up since I have hit 30. I had a round of electrolysis however found waiting for the regrowth period unbearable. I had been using jolen to try and bleach my upper lip and chin hairs between treatments but the hairs were so thick and dark it took a long time and multiple attempts for the bleach take and the thick coarse hairs stood out a mile. A month ago the situation got so awful I scrolled through hundreds of reviews and drove 35 miles on a Sunday morning to get myself a lumea. A month ago the situation got so awful I scrolled through hundreds of reviews and drove 35 miles on a Sunday morning to get myself a lumea. The product seemed a big investment but I was willing to do anything to try and stump the hair growth. I have followed the instructions by the book on my legs, armpits and face, but bought it mainly for the coarse hair on my upper lip and chin. I have light skin and dark hair and so far the results have been great, although I still have some regrowth the hair is much finer and significantly reduced and I have experienced results in line with the statistics advertised on the Lumea. At first I was nervous to use a dermaplanning tool and the idea of shaving my face felt very dangerous and would of looked stubbly had the hair growth not of been treated with the lumea but now works well. Treating the face area and arm pits with the lumea is super quick and easy with minimal pain, doing my legs takes quite a while (around 30 mins) but I will definitely persevere with it to gain the long term results. Using the lumea has helped me to regain so much confidence when meeting people outdoors / in bright lighting and is so easy to use in the comfort and convenience of my own home, I would definitely recommend and wish i had one years ago.

This is my first IPL product and I was worried that I might not know how to use and thus the results will not be effective. However, this product came with very good user manual that has clear instructions to guide me along and the product itself is really simple and intuitive to use! That’s only one button to toggle the different modes and a trigger to press for the light so operation is really easy. Setting 3 is very comfortable on my lower leg and the initial results after the 1st treatment is really promising, so can’t wait for subsequent treatments! This product is cheaper as compared to IPL salons and I can do it anytime I want at home, saves me the hassle from making a trip to IPL salon!

Great product but not great results.
7 July 2023

I bought this product after getting fed up of having to shave my legs everyday because the hair would grow back super quick. I am pale and have black thick hair which should be the perfect skin /hair type for this product. Been using it for 10 weeks now but the hairs still grow back after 2/3 days. Yes there has been a slight reduction and it has slowed down the growth but nothing like the advertised 100% hair free. I’ve tried it on other areas like my arms, armpits too to see if results would vary but I am not hair free anywhere. Quite disappointed as after reading all the reviews I really though this product would be what makes my life easier.

Helped me a lot, but only once I stopped shaving!
11 August 2022

PCOS. I had to pluck hair on my face daily and it was getting worse and worse. I've bought Lumea and first 4 months followed the instructions, but I have been doing weekly sessions, I was shaving twice per day and it wasn't working at all on my light skin and dark thick hair. I thought I've bought the wrong Lumea because mine doesn't have facial extensions. After 4 months, tired of shaving in the mornings and evenings, I have plucked everything I could and used the lamp again. After only few weeks the hair started growing much lighter, thinner and not so noticeable. At this point, I am using it now for about 9 months, usually monthly and plucking when needed between sessions. Immediate results!
20 April 2023

So glad I bought it. I saw immediate results. It does take longer to treat than stated when actually using it on different parts of your body, but it’s worth it in the longer term. I have a low pain threshold so in some parts it did hurt me - I just lowered the setting to manage it. Initially it only heated up once and I had to turn it off, but I was able to reuse it after a minute. After using the device around 8 times, the cooling recovery time is longer, so you do have to wait for around 4/5 mins to allow it to cool down. It happens about 2/3 times in a large area (e.g half a leg). But overall, I would recommend this product, it’s great and I should have bought it sooner.

It works, but be patient!

This really works, but you have to be consistent and give it time in order to see results. It took around 5 uses to see a noticeable change but I did learn a couple of things from when I first started:1. Its easy to use and not particularly painful, unless you go for too high a setting. Start at a low setting and work up to a comfortable level. The scanning feature is helpful but not always accurate so you might need to change it accordingly.2. Even though its recommended to use it every 2 weeks, try going for once a week if you can tolerate itas this speeds things up quite a lot.3. Its not perfect as some areas/patches grow quicker than others but I still highly recommend it.4. I recommend either letting the head cool, or using another head while the original cools down to continue with your routine. You can use the heads in areas they're not intended for as they will still be useful as long as you angle/press right.A bit pricey but will pay for itself within a couple of months!

Takes a long time to see results, but worth it
27 April 2023

I have been considering IPL treatments for years as I'm really pale skinned with lots of dark hair and after my sister in law recommended an at home one I splashed out on a whim and got this one. It's taken me at least double the recommended treatments so far and I still have hair, but when you start to see results it's pretty amazing. My legs used to be stubbly about half a day after shaving and now they're smooth for like a week and I still haven't finished treating them. Armpits and that area are taking a little longer to see results but I am starting to get bald patches! It's easy to do in front of the TV at night and the app is really good for reminding you when to do treatments and keeping on track. Not too sure if the previous reviews are real. But here is a 100% genuine one.Firstly, the Philips Lumea App is not available in Singapore. You won't be able to download from playstore nor from the url provided. The few Philips staff that I engaged with had assist to "escalated" the issue of the "App not available in your country/region" and most said the technical team will get back within 24-48 hours. I have tried it both on myself and my husband. With both of us pretty fair, our pits area doesn't not work. Its forever in "orange"- which means "it is too dark for this product it will automatically stop emitting pulses." In this case, I couldn't even use the product at all. In fact it is mostly orange on parts of my legs at well which are considered fair and definitely in the range of Philips "suitable" skin type. Not really recommended for purchase unless you are like snow white..Pretty disappointed with this product.. its not cheap either..

I have PCO so have always suffered from extra dark facial hair, made me very self conscious, every day I had to factor in time to de fuzz my face, which could take 45 mins. I had seen the Lumea a few years ago on a Black Friday sale on Amazon, they aren’t cheap, I didn’t have the money and thought I will save for that next year, next year came and I was worried if I brought it and it didn’t work, so I left it, none of my friends had purchased one so I had no one to ask, but this year, Boots had a great offer so I thought just do it, and after the first two uses I could see a difference, I’m now almost hair free on my neck, chin and lower face. I’m still getting used to getting up and putting my make up and I’m ready.
