I have been using Norelco electric shavers for more than 50 years and this model checks all of the boxes. It's quiet. It gives a close, clean shave. Battery recharging seems to occur less often--I can get 20-24 shaves per charge vs 16-18 with prior shavers. Hopefully this will continue. Another feature I like is that it requires little maintenance. Just rinse it out after each shave, shake the water off and it's clean. Many of the older models required removal of the piece holding the three blades and then re-assembling the two parts of each blade, which could be tricky, This one requires less than a minute of cleaning after each shave with no need to dis-assemble and then re-assemble the blades, which could take 5-10 minutes to get all the parts back to where they ... MoreI have been using Norelco electric shavers for more than 50 years and this model checks all of the boxes. The only negative I can find is it's so quiet that one time when I placed it on the base, I might have pressed the "on ' button and I found that it had completely discharged the next morning. Just make sure it's completely off when not using. All in all, I'd rate it 5 stars and highly recommend this model to those whoare looking for a quality shaver that's dependable, is smooth and non-irritating to the face and neck and requires practically no maintenance. And, BTW, you can also use it for a wet shave.

I had two 3000 series shavers in the last 5 years. I bought the latest model and was disappointed in the cost savings in manufacturing and quality of the latest model. The frame is now hard plastic where the previous models had rubber grips. The plastic feels cheap and brittle in comparison with the older one. They even when to the extremes of shortening the power supply cord, made the cleaning brush have bristles only on the one side (previous both sides) and the shaver head cover is now some cheap clear plastic (previously quality pvc or something). Also no bag or travel pouch (previously was supplied). Also the stand provided cannot fit the charging cable so is no to little use. Did not hesitated to buy another Phillips shaver but could not believe the drop in ... MoreI had two 3000 series shavers in the last 5 years. Bought this as a replacement for my 25 year old Philishave, which had served me well. This model is well designed. Fits well in your hand and is nice and lightweight. A very comfortable glide over your skin and goes about it very quietly too compared my old shaver. It gives a good cut dry shaving, haven't tried it wet yet as I don't feel the need to. Battery charging is relatively quick and is lasting around 25 days for a once a day shave. The only negatives I have are, there was no small brush for aiding cleaning (luckily I have several old ones) and it wasn't exactly clear whither there should have been one included. The other is bag storage. Its a rather neat fit for the shaver and no room for the charger. Otherwise this is a great shaver and would recommend to ... MoreBought this as a replacement for my 25 year old Philishave, which had served me well. This model is well designed. Like all the Philips products I've got, this is excellent quality and performs the task better than the opposition. I began with a Philips toothbrush, and found it far superior than another make I'd previously been using. It was so good, that when I needed to change my hair clippers I chose Philips ones, and these were also better than the previous clippers of another make.I was so impressed that, when my shaver went, I had no hesitation in buying a Philips shaver, and this too was far better than the other make I was replacing. It has a long battery life, is easy to clean, has a powerful battery, and takes all the stubborn stubble off without causing any skin damage. The only caveat is that you need to check what you are buying, and whether you need to fork out ... MoreLike all the Philips products I've got, this is excellent quality and performs the task better than the opposition. My experience is that you don't need to spend a lot. I compared the cheapest model about £50 with the next dearer model of just over £100 but when I compared them online on the Philips site the only difference seemed to be one had matt plastic and one had glossy plastic. I queried this with Philips, and was told both shavers used the same battery and same blades, and the only difference was cosmetic! In fact, all the shavers in the range use the same battery and same blades, with only cosmetic of accessories making the difference in price. I chose the cheaper model, and I've been delighted with it. I'm sure I'd have been equally delighted if I'd bought the dearer model, but my wallet would have been slimmer for no particular advantage.
I used a Norelco 8894XL shaver from 2004 until recently (2022). A quick rinse after every shave, oil once a week, and replacement blades/combs every two years. When I had to stop using it, because the hinge clasp wore out, the battery still held a charge good for over 120 minutes of shaving and everything else still worked perfectly. Amazing! 17+ years and it's a shame such a nothing part wore out with no way to fix it. The thing was a marvel of engineering and build quality. My new 3800 is a much more basic shaver and, accounting for inflation, much less expensive than my old 8894XL. However, it does work very well. I always liked the HQ8 heads but the SH30 heads, even though they have slots only with no holes and far fewer cutters per blade, work nicely on my beard and are quite comfortable. It's a shame that the cutters spin so much more slowly than they did on the 8894XL, the slower speed means shaving takes longer and I'm much more likely to experience some "pulling" when I move the shaver over a heavy patch of beard or move it quickly. I'd gladly accept less battery life in order to have faster RPM.Like many rotary shavers, the 3800 doesn't shave particularly close, not as close as the adjustable 8894XL and nowhere near as close as a good (and much more expensive) foil shaver. It’s about as close as the 8894XL with the 8894XL set to maximum “comfort” and minimum “closeness”. The 3800 shaves close enough to last me for the day. What it lacks in closeness it makes up for in comfort and the ability to handle longer hairs from not shaving for a couple of days in a row. It does a decent job with hairs that lie along my skin rather than "out" from my face, too. While I like the fact that this is a full wet/dry shaver, I don't use it wet. I don't even use a pre-shave lotion. But the ability to use it with shaving cream or even in the shower is there if that's something you like to do. Clean up is easy: Just open the top, blow it out over the sink, then rinse it under the faucet. Then leave it open until it's dry. Once a week or every 7-10 shaves, put a drop of oil on each comb then turn the razor on for a few seconds while you spread each drop around the combs with a fingertip. Then turn the razor off and pack it away. (Oil only when the shaver is 100% dry.) The cleaning is stress free because the entire unit is waterproof, you don't have to be super careful to get only the head assembly and hair chamber wet while keeping the rest of the unit dry to protect the battery and electronic parts. If you’re going to shave dry like I do, shave DRY: Be sure your face is completely dry, especially if you’ve just showered. I always shower first and I wash my face in the shower to remove oils and dead skin before shaving. Stand in front of a fan, I find that helps a lot on humid days or if it’s warm enough for me to sweat – even a little - while I’m shaving. And don’t push hard, let the shaver do the work; pushing hard isn’t going to help much but it will force some of your skin into the slots which will result in irritation/razor burn. This is a pretty forgiving and gentle electric razor, though, so it would be a good choice for someone who is switching from a double-edge/cartridge/disposable/straight razor to electric shaving for the first time, or a young person just starting to shave. At retail there is about a $20 difference in price between the 3500 and the 3800. Other than colors, the only difference between the 3500 and the 3800 is that the 3800 comes with the charging stand. The charging stand is a cheap piece of light plastic and isn't necessary so if you have a choice between the two and the price is more than just a few dollars different, get the 3500 instead of the 3800.The 2300 and some of the other similar-looking Philips Norelco rotary models have the same SH30 blades/combs and the head assembly has the same ability to move to conform to the shape of your face to maintain optimal contact between the combs and your skin. If price is a big factor you might want to look at the 2300 or one of the other "lesser" models. I went with the 3500/3800 because I wanted the convenience of a full wet/dry shaver and a LI battery rather than the NiMH battery found in the lower-end units. Other than the battery type, wet/dry capability, and ability to operate when plugged in to power (available in the dry-only models), they’re the same razor and will shave your face identically. The slow speed of the motor is disappointing and comes close to ruining what is otherwise an excellent rotary shaver. I would love to see a model exactly like this one, with a battery percent and time available display similar to the display of the 8894XL, and much faster-spinning blades. Just faster RPM would earn this thing the 5th star, making it an amazing value for its price. It’s pretty darn good just as it is, though.

Among its best-known consumer products are Norelco grooming devices, Sonicare oral health products, Magnavox & Philips audio and video products, Philips kitchen appliances and personal healthcare. Here is a summary of the key features:• Model: Philips Norelco S3134/84• 27 self-sharpening Comfort Cut blades designed to minimize tugging and the need for multiple passes, gently cut hair just above skin level• Five-direction flexible heads pivot, flex and float to follow facial contours without the need for pressure, minimizing stress on skin• Shaves dry or wet, using water, soap, shaving foam or gel• Waterproof, may be used in shower• Fully washable, one touch to flip open shaver head for easy cleaning• Pop-up precision trimmer for mustache, sideburns, eyebrows• Up to 105 minutes of cordless shaving time, lithium ion battery is fully charged in 68 minutes• 15 volt, 5.4 watt/360 mA charger• Shaver Dimensions: 6.2 inch height, 2.4 inch depth, 2.3 inch width; Weight: 7 ounces• 45 day trial/refund period, two year warranty on parts and labor,I have used Norelco and other premium quality electric shavers for many years so I know what to expect and demand. I own two other Norelco shavers, a two year old S7940 and a twelve year old 9160 XL. Both of these were the top-of-the-line model when purchased and have given me flawless service. See my photo comparisons of these three shavers.Norelco currently offers two core designs in its shavers. The more expensive 5000/7000/9000 series are slimmer and have a “mushroom” head which sit above the body of the shaver and thus have more flexibility to conform to your face. The other design is seen in the more basic and economical 1000/2000/3000 series which have a flatter head design.Like all Norelco shavers the S3134 is elegantly styled and very ergonomic. It is a nice combination of steel blue and black. It is lightweight, but feels substantial in your hand. There is rubberized grip material where your index finger and thumb would grasp the shaver and your remaining three fingers cradle the sides of the shaver’s body. It is a bit longer than my 9160 Norelco and a bit lighter. Compared to the 7940 it is wider and slightly heavier. On the front of the shaver is the power button and a single LCD icon which lights when charging or to indicate (in orange) that the battery life is low.The reason I added this shaver to my collection is that I have the feeling that my trusty 9160 is nearing retirement age. I like having two shavers available and the flatter head shape of the 9160 and the 3134 work well with parts of my face, while the “mushroom” shape of the 7940 head is best for other parts of my face. One significant difference between the three Norelco shavers I own is the number of blades in the three rotary heads. See my photos which show the cutting heads and blades of the three shavers. The oldest model (9160) has three rings of blades (12 in the outer ring, 6 in the middle ring and 3 in the inner ring.) That is a total of 21 blades in each head (63 total.) The S7940 shaver has a double ring of blades (15 in the outer ring and 9 in the inner ring.) That is a total of 24 blades in each head (72 total.) The S3134 shaver has only 9 blades in each head (27 total.)What is the effect of more vs. fewer blades? The advantage of more blades is a faster and closer shave. However, the chance of developing an ingrown hair is greater with the 7940 model since its 72 total blades cut very closely compared to the 27 more widely spaced blades of the 3134 model. If you have a tendency to develop razor bumps on your skin you may find that the 3134 is a better choice. The battery life on this shaver is actually much greater than the 50 minutes claimed by Norelco. I tested it by running it continuously from a fully-charged state and it lasted 121 minutes! Now it should be noted that this was not actual shaving time, so I estimate that actual shaving time would be about 100+ minutes. Recharge time from a fully-discharged state was 68 minutes.Other notes about the charging system: The orange low-charge warning light activated with 5.5 minutes of running time remaining. A five minute quick charge gave 9.5 minutes of shaving time. The shaver cannot be run while the charging cable is attached (this is to prevent electric hazards.)The plastic head cover fits snugly and will give your shaver adequate protection when traveling. Note that no travel pouch is included (the Best Buy overview of what’s included is incorrect.)So how well does it work? Very well! The shaving function is effective and very comfortable. It is quiet (no loud buzz like some electric shavers) and it removed every trace of my stubble with absolutely no irritation to my skin. The “5D” flex and pivot motion really works well to reach every part of your face. The pop-out trimmer is effective (although not as good as the separate trimmer head provided on the 5000/7000/9000 Norelco shavers.)I used the shaver in both dry and wet modes and it worked flawlessly. Cleaning is very simple – just pop open the head and rinse it under warm water. If you are converting from a manual (blade) razor you will really appreciate the luxury of continuing to use your favorite shaving cream when you use this great device.I am accustomed to very good shavers and the S3134 certainly meets my high standards. Is it the best shaver you can buy from Norelco? No – if your budget can accommodate the higher cost of a 7000 series Norelco shaver (about twice the cost of the S3134) – you should invest in that model. But if razor bumps are a problem you have experienced or you just wish to economize, the Norelco S3134 wet/dry shaver is an excellent choice and I give it a full five stars.
Generally speaking, it's a good shaver. It has a better design than its previous model: the power button is not in the way of handling, so you won't mistakenly touch it during shaving. Even the battery is under power, but it still does the job, just takes longer time to finish the work. Afterall, it still can clean shave my beard. If the battery is much stronger, I would've given it a 5-star. For now, I give it a 4-star.For my case, the support team was very helpful. They listened to my explanation and replaced my shaver. So far it works and the battery is better than the original one I purchased, but still not strong enough. I really appreciate the support team's patience and help. I still recommend it and hope Philips can provide a stronger battery in a newer model.
As shavers go it just OK but nothing very special. It appears to be reasonably well made and the battery life is fine, I've not experienced any of the battery problems that other reviewers have encountered. My main grumble is that the cutters seem to be pretty rubbish. I purchased this shaver because my Philips mains operated shaver is at least 25 years old and Philips replacement cutters are no longer available. BUT although the mains shaver cutters are about 5 years old they still cut better than the new ones in the battery shaver. The new cutters appear to be poor quality compared to my old ones. I suspect this is a deliberate ploy, buy a more expensive model if you want better cutters. Would I recommend this product? Imagine if you will, the Series 3000 as waves crashing upon a rocky shore. I use this analogy because like the waves, the Series 3000 has to move over your stubble repeatedly for thousands of years before having any impact whatsoever. If you'd like to immediately triple the amount of time you spend shaving, bring this bad boy home today, and if you're worried about razor burn? Not anymore! With the infinite number of passes the Series 3000 requires, you won't have any facial skin LEFT to burn. Be prepared to take frequent breaks when you shave with one of these, one, to rehydrate after all that exertion, and two, in order to let your hands stop shaking at the frustration of moving the head of the unit back and forth over the tiniest bit of beard ad nauseum with no ... MoreImagine if you will, the Series 3000 as waves crashing upon a rocky shore. I have been using electric razors for nearly 50 years, mainly Philips. In the early days there were no rechargeable razors, and when they were first available, the charge didn't hold for long, so it was important to have one that would shave at the same time as being charged. I have kept with that policy, even though the rechargeable batteries are very good now. I have a similar model to the 3000 series, which is quite old now, and it could be used while charging. This new machine was intended to replace it, but I missed the advertising comments which may have mentioned that this one couldn't be used while charging. The battery of the old one has stopped working, so it can only be used if it is plugged in, just like those of 50 years ago. The battery of the old one has stopped working, so it can only be used if it is plugged in, just like those of 50 years ago. I am now left with one that will only work from the battery, and one that will only work when plugged in, both of which are similar to the 3000 series.I always go for the rotary type electric razors. As far as I know, Philips only do those. The 3000 series Philips razor is very good for either wet or dry, but the wet I never use. It has a very good shave, and is very good value. In the past, I have used more expensive electric razors, including Philips ones, but they don't give any better a shave, and replacement heads cost about the same as a new 3000 series machine.Overall, then, this 3000 series electric razor gives a very good shave, it is very good value, and I will certainly look for the same again when this one starts to fail, which I hope will be in a few years time.
