Philips Series 5000 Wet & Dry Electric Shaver with Multigroomer
The Philips Shaver Series 5000 Wet and Dry Electric Shaver (S5466/17) is built to deliver a smooth, comfortable, and efficient shaving experience, combining smart features with thoughtful design for daily grooming ease. Thanks to its fully flexible 360° Contour heads, the shaver glides effortlessly along every curve of your face, maintaining continuous skin contact and ensuring a close, even shave with minimal irritation. At the heart of the Series 5000 are ComfortTech blades, designed to shield your skin while cutting each hair cleanly just above skin level. The result? An efficient shave that’s gentle, even on sensitive skin. The included SmartClick precision trimmer attachment lets you sharpen up sideburns, moustaches, or detailed areas for a polished finish. The shaver’s ergonomic, anti-slip rubber grip ensures you maintain firm control, whether using it dry or in the shower. With one-touch open, cleaning becomes effortless — just pop open the head and rinse under water. Powered by a lithium-ion battery, it delivers up to 45 minutes of cordless shaving (about 15 shaves) after just a 1-hour charge, plus a convenient 5-minute quick charge for one full shave when you’re short on time.

My trusty old Philips shaver (RIP) died after nine years, so I went for another Philips and got the 5000. I don't think the 5000 is quite as good as the old shaver because of the position of the on/off button. It's placed where I put my thumb while shaving, so I frequently turn the shaver off by accident. I've tried holding the shaver various ways but there's only one 'natural' grip position. I'd strongly suggest actually holding the shaver before you buy it. I don't use the 'multigroomer' but it might be helpful if you've got a beard or porkchops. It’s battery powered only and feels a bit cheap—but that’s what you get for ‘free’. The packaging is generally good—mostly recyclable—but there's lots of small unnecessary plastic wrapping. Don’t unwrap the shaver in front of your kids if they’re going to complain about dying turtles and dolphins! As at March 2022, you can buy replacement cutters for the 5000. That’s a big reason I chose the 5000.

I have found the wet shave the best. It gives a reasonable shave, not the best I have used but fair value for money. The instructions are simply stupid. They can't really be called instructions - it's like trying to decipher the 'writings' of ancient Egypt! Very unhelpful.

Hadn't used an electric shaver for years and decided to give the 5000 series a try. Wow, amazed for the price at how well it shaves. Even used it today as a wet shaver with shaving cream & with a blade like result & no irritation. Easy to clean under the tap..

Generally gets through my tough beard and gives a good shave. To date no shaver gives me a really clean shave and that is no fault of the shaver in any way. One small issue is that the retainer in the lower cutter sometimes pops out and i have to reset it.
The unit is well-built and comes with as part of a good value kit combining the electric shaver with a multigroomer unit. The multigroomer is very powerful and is great for sideburns and trimming around the hair to keep it looking tidy. Sadly the Series 5000 is not particularly powerful even on a full charge and struggles to efficiently remove a couple of days growth without being patchy despite using it dry, wet, or with a shaving gel as well trying different techniques - could do with a more powerful motor as this one seems to be very slow.
The shaver is good and very soft on the skin while removing a good growth of stubble with ease. The only down side is the positioning of the soft touch on off switch. It is right where my thumb naturally goes when holding the shaver. This means I tend to switch it off while in the middle of shaving unless I hold it in a manner which is not fully comfortable for me. if the on off switch was on the opposite side of the shaver, I would give it a rating of 5 stars.
A good razor for top up shaves through out the day. Nothing major just keep smooth in between meetings. It's reliable and the charge seems to last . Easy to clean. I would say value for your money. And especially as it comes as a package deal.
This shaver is not worth the price. The handle with the power unit and the rechargable battery works well but the shaving head is too big. There is too wide a border around the cutting disks making it difficult to get in close around the nose and ears. The cutting heads don't seem as effective as other cheaper models I have used. (4405 & 9206) I have only used it dry but I have given up as it just takes too long. Perhaps it is better used wet but I am nervous about things claiming to be water proof. There are just too many seams on the handle that look like a leak risk.
I bought the S5000 Series S5486 as a replacement for an older Philishave 8240/XL bought 11 years ago. However so far I have been disappointed with its performance. It doesn't give me as clean a shave as the older unit has done. I haven't figured out the reason yet and will continue to use the S5000 and try to determine what the issue is - I have used Philips Shavers most of my life with good results and so the poor performance of this new model is perplexing..
Cashrewards cancelled my cashback because Shaver Shop sent me the very misleading welcome code after I clicked the purchase link via Cashrewards. After applying the code from Shaver Shop, I paid 10% more than the price that I should have paid. What a 'warm welcomed' code that Shaver Shop sent me! Thanks to the code, I paid more instead of saving some money. Worst purchasing experience ever!
