My previous Philips shaved me closer (I could go 3 or 4 days between shaves whereas with the S5000 it's only 2 days) but it did have a tendency to irritate my skin. I never have a problem with 'razor burn' now.Having to remove the head and attach the trimmer every time I shave is annoying though (the previous model had a flip-down trimmer). I could also shave while charging on the previous model, now I have to wait an hour or so.The shaver blades wear out quickly and are expensive to replace, I only shave every other day but they have still only lasted 2 years. Disappointing. On the previous model they lasted for over 5 years and we're still going strong. In fact the battery failed before the blades.Overall this model seems like a bit of a backward step.

I've also used a Norelco shaver for 3 or 4 decades, but I guess never again. I have tried two sets of blades of the new style and I wish I'd kept my old ones. These rip the hair out of my face instead of cutting it. I saw a review saying they were installed wrong, so I checked. I wish that were true, but not in my case. Like others here when I chatted with customer service, I got no information regarding the problems, but a 15% discount and a link to more replacement blades. Based on what I see here and no explanation from Philips, I am not throwing good money after bad and I need a shave, so I guess its time for a shaver from a different company. That is a real shame. I used to love my shave!

The Philips shaving heads I purchased are great. I made the mistake of buying some off-brand shaver heads & they were awful. I thought I was saving money, but in reality, I ended up spending an extra $30 cos I had to throw away the first blades & buy the proper Philips ones.I certainly learnt a lesson. Thank you for the great quality blades

They're Philips so it's quality and works well.PS. Buying through Shaver Shop online is great when you live in a regional community/town. Local shops cannot carry the wide range of products &/or spare parts, so SS is a great Australian alternative.
I loved my PT-Series razor but after several years, the heads were getting dull, so I replaced them with these that I bought at a Mom and Pop store. They functioned so poorly that I was convinced they were a knockoff product that stole Philips' packaging until I saw these other reviews. The original heads that came with my razor worked great and lasted a long time. Right out the box, these were so-so at best and quickly got worse. They miss lots of hairs and I can count on the dull blades painfully yanking out two to four hairs everytime I shave. With a price point around thirty dollars, I would have been much better off buying a an inexpensive, no-frills electric razor from a competitor, at least then if I had to make multiple passes to get a clean shave I ... I received my replacement shaver heads about a week ago. They arrived early, taking less than two days to receive. The heads work smoothly (no hair jerking as some have complained about) and give me a much closer shave than my old heads did. I was hesitant to buy these heads because of the negative reviews I read, but I decided to take a chance with this purchase anyway. I am very pleased with my new shaver heads and would buy them again.
Be careful to buy the Philips SH50 to replace HQ8. There are replacement versions being sold that do not perform as well and look like the SH50. In my opinion, they do not cut as close or may pull and bite. I examined the SH50 and the HQ8. There is only a slight difference between the two. The bottom side blades are the same. The topside which has a plastic holder that contacts the rotor is only slightly smaller. The SH50 gave me a clean, and comfortable shave as the original HQ8.

I bought this shaver at Costco, to replace a 10-year-old Norelco that I liked, but which finally died.I was disappointed to get it home and discover that, in order to use the trimmer feature, you now have to swap-out the entire head for another trimmer head. Additionally, while it was at first very quiet and shaved my beard quickly, within two months it got very noisy, and now takes a good 5 minutes of shaving to get a not-as-good-as-it-was shave. Apparently, the blades have already worn-out within a couple of months! You also can no longer run it off of the power cord (plugging it in kills the shaver), like you could with my previous ones. But, to now have to pay another $40 for a new set of blades, within two months? Seems to me that good design, quality, and common sense are really lacking with this particular model. Not sure how much longer I will be tolerating this one...
the order process was not great, it looked like i was going to be charged delivery, but was not.i fitted the new heads straight away. The shave has not been any good since, the old ones were better. Also the razor needs charging every other shave. This is very difficult in the shower, if the saver does not work.
