It makes most old games completely obsolete. If this was missed along the way, it should be easy to find at a good price and will be a good weekend playthrough.

Otherwise, this is definitely the latest in a long line of games, and it has a ton of interesting tweaks, but also they got rid of a lot of things that could be seen as more immediately "accessible". This is definitely that sort of permanently online, collection-oriented kind of game. There's no real single player, just some expanded training tutorials for each "character", and then all the Zombies stuff. So if you want a silencer on a pistol, you have to get a bunch of pistol "kills" first. So it forces you to use the weapons that you want to upgrade, instead of some of the previous games that just gave you blanket upgrades to unlock and attach. So it's pushing you more into the RPG style of having to train/practice in the skill that you want to be "better" at, by unlocking more features of just that skill.

It's still casual enough to be accessible, but it really does feel like it needs at least a 5 or 10 hour commitment up front to unlock enough stuff that you can then move forward just casually jumping in and out of a few matches here and there -- if that's your play style. And personally, I find the "Blackout" ("Battle Royale" / "Fortnight") style games super boring. There's such a weird mix of "Call of Duty" and Hide-and-Seek and some kind of bizarre tactical aspect to it that I really don't understand. I'm sure it'd be better with a team/group playing together and talking and coordinating, but the whole concept to me is just confusing and seems so boring. I've tried it a couple times, but either I lasted way to long by just sitting in a bathroom looking out a window, or I lost immediately being shot in the back. I'm not here for "Counter Strike" chess precision, I'm here for distracting explosions and hyperactive sounds and colors.

BlackoutA battle royal game similar to PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) and Fortnight where you and 99 other players parachute down a plane to any point on the map to a survivalist game to see who can be the last person standing. The map is ridiculously large, having the border shrink every time the player count dwindles and/or countdown timer reach certain intervals. If you are outside the border, you constantly lose health, so you're constantly moving. You start off with no weapons/inventory and have to scavenge for them on the map. Every pickup is randomized throughout the map every time you playThis game resembles PUBG more than Fortnight due to it's realistic, non-cartoonish setting. Unlike PUBG it's more polished and has less bugs and microtransactions (as of release, may change later??). Also the graphics are way better. Weapon/item variety are more generous in BlackoutCharacter customization is limited as you can only select the gender and race of your characters. There are some some skins you can choose from, but have to be unlocked by completing certain objectives or reaching a certain caps. There's also character emotes/sprays, but i haven't seen anyone use them. There are supply drops, and zombie area on the map to get better loot, but it's a big risk/reward systemThere are 3 game types: Duo, Solo, and Team. All are essentially the same except Duo and Team consists of 2 player and 4 player teams respectively and has a total of 100 players compared to solo which has 88.===2. ZombiesThere are 2 separate stories: one a continuation from Black Ops 3, and a brand new story involving time-travel.There are 3 maps (1 of which is DLC)Zombies are now faster, resembling more of Left 4 Dead series of games. Also have some new wacky enemy typesA lot of easter eggs throughout. Like previous COD Zombies there's a lot of comic mischief and jokes character spill out as you playCore gamplay wise it's traditional COD, but with special weapons and elixirs. The latter of which is a temporary abilities booster which has a cooldown period before you use it again.Outside the story modes where you have to figure out how to progress, there's Rush Mode which is traditional horde mode where you don't have to focus on purchasing upgrades with in-game money/unlockables===3. MultiplayerTraditional online multiplayer for COD. Less changed/new out of the 3.When you first start off, like recently released COD games in past years it's unbalanced until you grind for your desired loadout. This is because perks, weapon attachments and items are unlocked as you rank up.Seeing online is split between the 3 main modes, player selection is less forgiving than past years as you can have someone who played 100+ hours vs someone who just started playing. The game tries to balance this out by having one 100+ hour person and one < 1 hour person on each time for example. If one of the 100+ hour person is more skilled than the other 100+ hour, they may just wipe the other team out like nothing. But if you have "skill" then you can offset this. Other than that, you have to grind for your desired loadout/max weapon upgrades or...git gud. The way i see it, it's not about the wins, it's about learning from your mistakes and having fun, but that's just me.Nothing really changed since the last COD game except maybe some weapons, and maps (14 at launch with some retro maps)Game types include your traditionalTeam DeathmatchFree for AllSearch and destroyKill ConfirmedDominationHiestHardpointControlYou can also choose between core and hardcore modes. The latter having more restrictions, and more catered towards skill. As mentioned before, you get more health. This along with knowing all random spawn points/maps; differenitates more skilled players over the noobs. This mode is till twitch heavy close quarters first person shooter combatOverall, no matter how you stack it, you get a lot of quality content for the price, even if you play 2 of the 3 main modes. Each game mode can be a game onto itself.

I had someone on hardcore mode shoot myself an everyone else with one shot as we each spawned so we all lost half health. I quit after that game and was put into a lobby with this same person 8 different times after quitting to get away from them.I reported them twice with no resolution.I even blocked this person on PlayStation and they still kept putting me in a lobby with them.Zombies mode is pretty amazing on this one, in fact I’d say it’s probably the best mode on this entry. Blackout mode is fun but not often, it’s generally just annoying and lacks the same flow other successful battle royale games have.Overall If its on sale for $30 less I’d pick it up which is what I did.But if it’s full price save your money because you will feel cheated.

One of my biggest concerns with Call Of Duty Black Ops 4 what's the fact that they were removing the campaign. However have to plan the game for the last 48 hours, I see it is not needed. The game play mechanics and upgrades over Black Ops 3 or simply amazing. The level design and the occlusion of former maps from previous Call of Duty's all makes up the Battle Royale gigantic landscape. There was no new mechanics to learn because it felt just like Call of Duty from the past. Even joining a squad with random people who I've never met, I still enjoyed the experience. There was no Lone Wolf tactic, we worked as a team and it showed when we receive the victory. With the inclusion of zombies that just makes something for everybody. I've never been a fan of the zombie mode, but from what I've played so far it really shines. Each character that you encounter has a little story line. That brings depth to the people that you come across with in the game mode.Call of Duty Black Ops for refreshing breath of air into the series. Can't wait for the updates and DlC the further expand my experience with the game. Thank you Treyarch and Activision for delivering once again. This game is a must buy for any first-person shooter, Call of Duty fan, or gamer that just want to have fun or competitive like myself.

COD is back again, and returning to its old way--great for us traditionalist. Forget the jumping and leap frogging dance from the previous, and ditch the old warfare. Well, that's changed and things have balanced out and the action is more enjoyable while remaining competitive. The new BLACKOUT game mode is a knock-off replica of the infamous Fortnite, COD style. It isn't quite as animated or creative, nor as enjoyable but it'll be a good time waster every once in awhile. Offering the same delivery as Fortnite, the randomize drop-offs, and the reducing bubble, this presents a meek feel since scattered accessories and weapons are difficult to spot and require lots of out-in-open-space running to find something useful. There's no easily spotted treasure chests to my knowledge! Nevertheless, it's cool join in if you're bored with multiplayer to roll the dice of actually winning this.Zombies, as always, is fun! Pretty cool starting map with a moderately confusing maze. At times the space to operate in is a bit lack luster. However, if you purchase the Season Pass you get more maps and game modes that seem more fun to play on. Overall, Zombies is much more difficult to survive on this time around since Juggernaut is obsolete---GONE! Not added! Tragic, I know. But, there is some new ones and a couple of familiar drinks from previous versions.Multiplayer still has its traditional game modes were are used to seeing, with a weekly change of a game mode added (Gun Game, Blackjacks Gun Game, 85 TDM, 100 TDM etc.). I'm really loving this old style with a few new twists. BUT...always a BUT... the same crap shoot stuff happens with the towering amount of corner camps that always shut down the thrill. And don't get me started on NUKETOWN, the biggest corner camp and easiest angle-shot ever. What that means is, pick a corner and you'll be set or laid down at the right angle facing a spawn and it's easy pickens all day. Other than that, not a lot to complain about this time around.Anyways, I'll be curious to see how Battlefield responds. Until then COD is back and better then ever--at least in a few years. History has proven that the old ways were the most favored ways, based on (Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops 2 & 4 source: gamesradar). But we all like new and the added perks have certainly brought my interest back to COD. Hope this helped. GAME ON!!

I feel like I'm unstoppable in one game and then can't kill anyone the next with the same lobby. Some specialist equipment and weapons are really annoying because some require less skill than others. Overall balance of weapons was ok, but when you limit certain attachments to certain guns that significantly affect time to kill like High Caliber 2 or Rapid Fire 2, it makes it incredibly unbalanced. Only a few perks felt necessary or felt like crutches in order to play well. Maps were ok after getting used to them, and I liked that we got some favorite maps. I did like the higher time to kill due to higher health and manual healing after getting used to it. The problem with that though is that there are still guns that kill in one shot so it gets frustrating when you have the jump on someone and put a few shots into them and they one shot you with a shotgun, sniper, or specialist weapon. There are just a lot of design decisions that I didn't agree with. It feels very similar to Black Ops 3, but completely different at the same time. Black Ops 3 was a lot more enjoyable for me and Black Ops 4 seems like a big step backwards. I didn't buy the Black Ops Pass, but sometimes you can play them for free and they don't play very well. A lot of them are too big and have no flow. There are also countless microtransactions, and all I have to say is that none of it is worth it and should have been in the game at launch. We had a lot more guns and cosmetic options at the start of Black Ops 3, I don't know why 4 didn't have at least the same amount of things. Both 3 and 4 have the same problem with no direct way to earn DLC weapons, but at least 3 had more to begin with. WWII had its own fair share of struggles, but they have a much better and enjoyable microtransaction system where you can earn the DLC weapons for free. This has me extremely worried about the rumored Black Ops 5 coming out in 2021.

Going into this purchase I already knew that there was no campaign so be aware of that if that is what you like about this series. Just about everything is online play for this installment. I'll break it down by modes:* Blackout - This is CoD's version of Arena Battle. Similar in style to games like Fortnite this mode has about 100 players dropping into a huge map and the last man/team standing wins. This was the main driving point of this game but I have to tell you I am largely unimpressed. Action is slow and boring and the whole mode just gets old fast. Map is largely just old multiplayer maps cobbled together on a plain boring landscape. Maybe if the map was a little more war torn it would look more COD-esque, but overall it is just bland. Map is largely just old multiplayer maps cobbled together on a plain boring landscape. Maybe if the map was a little more war torn it would look more COD-esque, but overall it is just bland. Really hope that this mode does not become a common thing that happens to CoD. Some may like it but not for me. Definitely going to be a divisive factor in buying this game.* Multiplayer - If you've played CoD before then this is probably what you are buying this game for. Takes a lot from Black Ops 3 as far as using different characters with different skill sets for different play styles. Only thing I do not like about Multiplayer this year is the use of life gauges and having to manually replenish your health. Players become bullet sponges and guns just seem very unbalanced. Patches could fix this. Maps are pretty much average this time around. Nothing very memorable like some previous games have had. Also 4 of the maps are recycled from previous games. Not even reskinned just plain recycled. Since they had 3 years to do a new game and were not even weighed down with doing a campaign they could have paid a little more attention to the launch maps. At least wall running is gone though!* Zombies - This is the one area I think they made an improvement this time around. You can finally play with difficulty levels and even bots if you are playing solo. Map variation is impressive this time around too. Titanic map has some impressive levels of detail and historical accuracy (minus the zombies of course). The roman coliseum map is different and has very fast paced action. Going back to Alcatraz from Black Ops 2 with a few new bits thrown in is also a good addition. Throw in a good ranking/reward system and you actually feel like you are making progress towards achieving the next rank. The whole Zombies story line is just nuts at this point so just take it for what it is and have fun.Overall this will be a very interesting year for CoD. They took out something that fans love and replaced it with something new. Time will tell if this was a good idea.
